So how many different ways are there to field dress a deer?
Five Seasons replied to goosifer's topic in Deer Hunting
yeah i leave it. however with a doe or a buck i'm not sure any officer would need the junk. perhaps it's actually written somewhere in the regs? not sure. I think it would only really be important if you quartered int he field. -

i'm not sure what other pic you're talking about, but i think you missed my point. This is a public forum. should we start posting gut out pics and video of wounded deer? I just dont see the value that's all. unless of course you want more fence sitters and anti's to read these kinds of stories that is. https://nypost.com/2018/04/30/deer-survives-arrow-to-the-face/- 10374 replies

I passed those baby bucks this year, but the 2.5's I did not. Why? because I hunt 60 acres on the boarder of wayne and monroe. Our worlds are different and your reality is not that of 98% of NY hunters. That was my main point.

New rifle.. What scope??
Five Seasons replied to Al Bundy's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
fair point for sure. Your situation is not the same as mine for sure, and I'd guess not super common in NY. I also believe the OP mentioned this wouldn't be an issue for him either. What's the price of the kahles? -
so you have access to great habitat. awesome. I'd argue the doe i shot the first year in Mississippi on public land was a better example of good woodmanship and hunting skill than any of those bucks. But I think the point has been made. Many don't feel the need to justify their hunting abilities, but for some reason you do.

Obviously quite a few people do. Imagine you were a pro football player and saw youth turning away from football. You saw your sport dying in favor of soccer. You'd just sit back and shrug? You and I butt heads occasionally, but generally you're a standup guy. I'm a little shocked you don't grasp the preservation of tradition aspect of this discussion. While I've said it before and will say again that everyone deserves their right to define their challenge, I firmly believe there is a general acceptable line that the majority of hunters have drawn when it comes to recovery and ethical hunting. It's why many states don't allow hunting with an atlatl. I'm not complaining about you at all man, but the picture of who you are grows clearer and clearer in my mind. I thought it was pretty well understood that what is legal is not always right and vice versa. And for decency sakes, maybe at least not brag so much about killing the dumbest animal in the woods. I'd think a man who read the good book would understand that. You know... like abortion and what not? In Mississippi, they have full inclusion

I have no issue with your shot choice. Just feel that there are enough people out there looking for a reason to take us down that we don’t need to feed them anymore ammo. Some aspects of hunting should be left in the woods. Congrats on the harvest. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 10374 replies

New rifle.. What scope??
Five Seasons replied to Al Bundy's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
eh, I hunt till dark and i've never had an issue with my leupold. even the vx2. I'd even say my nikon bdc on the smoke poll does just fine 30 minutes before and after. Are there better options? Of course. Do I see the ROI on those vs the sub $400 scope? Nope. Not in big woods NY. -
the only difference? really? you know that's not true. there's no draw required. you can hold for as long as you need. those are crucial limitations with the compound.

New rifle.. What scope??
Five Seasons replied to Al Bundy's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
leupold glass is great for the price and is all most new york woods hunters need. I'd really only consider those crazy price optics if i was going out west. -
so imagine what a 14 year old would think when given the option.

i think you proved my point then. You state that the fear is guys will be killing "my deer". I'd argue that nobody is really worried about that anymore. Maybe at one point sure. The stance most anti-crossbow guys have now comes from a place of preserving tradition. Fearing that kids wont ever want to even try a compound when they can be Daryl out there in the woods instead. Some throw around the term "elitist bowhunter" like it's an insult. Shit, I wear that badge with pride. It's freaking hard for the average guy with average land to kill a nice deer, let alone any deer with a bow. It takes sacrifice to practice, prep, scout and learn when and how to draw. Now I can go down to walmart friday night and be in the woods traipsing around the next day with my crossbow? You know the other reason archers like bow season? It's quite. Mostly only good hunters with good woodsmanship. Why? because those that tried it and aren't will to put in the time gave up. Because IT IS HARD. Don't get me wrong, i like gun season too. But for different reasons. I hunt private land that is highly pressured during gun. Not so much with archery. I dont think crossbows will or would affect me... but it's kinda like illegal immigration or global warming isn't it? I'm a little worried about it... it hasn't really ever affected me that I can see, but I'm starting to see some of the writing on the wall and I'm a little worried that now is the only chance we have to do the right thing. /end Belo going off the rails
-
my guess is that you didn't develop that confidence with your compound in an afternoon though. And that's the difference.
-
i hear this alot. it always gets likes in a thread like this. I never get an answer to my rebuttal though. what is stopping any of those guys from killing my deer now? keeping in mind that there is a permit system for disabled and elderly (one that we all agree needs reform).
-
i never once whined about other hunters in the woods. read my very first post.
-
so confused. you proposed an xbow only season right during the rut. something no other state does either btw. Left alone the way it is today, both archers and crossbow hunters have access to the rut. you're the one looking for revenue, not me.
-
i'd love to see the hunter per capita numbers too. And somehow (while I know there are many city hunters) removing the 5 bureaus from the equation. the state's pop has been steadily shrinking north of the hudson. I wonder really if you did that analysis, how many less hunters per capita we have. I bet it's not as dire as some think.
-
many of us wont bat an eye, but there is a careful line to balance here. As is a full "sportsman" and dmp's is almost $100. We want hunting to be accessible to all. Plenty of rural and poverty stricken areas where folks are feeding their families on wild game using their grandpas old rifle and the same wool jacket and pants they had in their 20's. If ya'll really want to give back, there's nothing stopping you from buying a subscription to the conservation magazine, designer license plates that fund conservation or just straight up donating.
-
this guy here. shoots hens and bb's. man... I feel like if we went fishing you'd catch the limit just because you could, not because you needed to.
-
it's been mentioned a few bazillion times why people care. While I'm not in the public land business, I will add that for those that are, it does not provide a level playing field for archers vs the crossbow. Therefore decreasing the odds of an already tough to kill animal.

you think kicking bowhunters out of the rut will save the sport?
