  1. Hope it was worth it and pays out. Moving a stand in the middle of the season and approaching prime time no less would only be a last resort for me. Not to be a dick but sounds like you may have needed some more preseason scouting.
  2. What kind of asinine statement is that? Regardless of parents, puberty kicks in. And at some point you have to draw the line so the good kids don't suffer.
  3. Essentially you're still getting up at the same time you would have. Your body clock doesn't know any different.
  4. Great morning. Beautiful 2.5 8 point that I had to let walk, a nice 5 and a big crotch 4. Can't complain.
  5. WTF? Some people need to read some archery loss rate studies before babble nonsense
  6. If the shot opportunity was good or at his ability, rain would not make that shot unethical to me. Unethical is taking a low prob shot or not tracking at all.
  7. Perfect hunting conditions in 8f this morning. Good luck everyone
  8. If hunting was easy, everybody would do it. Still early. You could very well have had a tree fall and block some runs. Some or different crops planted, new hunters or people in the woods. Never know.
  9. And if you can fool a mature doe you can fool any deer in the woods. God they're annoying though.
  10. I think you're reaching with the "ethics" comment.
  11. There are some giants up north, but there also just isn't the farms and feed we enjoy central and west. Harsher climates also take a till on their numbers. We have a camp near Raqutte that I've never hunted. There is tons of state land and many hunting camps. But i have more deer per square mile in Ontario so why bother?
  12. Different goals, different areas, varying dedication. Don't forget this forum represents like 1% of ny hunters. Some are better and some are worse. That's life. What is "your" hunting style and goal?
  13. They've lowered the age and added a youth hunt. What more do you want?
  14. Good god know. Stay put.,deer move all over this time of year
  15. Just saw an albino squirrel, awesome!
  16. The 500' rule does not apply if you have consent. Archery only obviously for safety
  17. I guess it's too much to ask that we as a fraternity of hunters are respectful of each other. I always wanted to believe that it took a special person to be a hunter. That we were more honorable, raised with higher values and understood we needed to respect others like us with who we share the woods. However It seems more and more common that we're all the same as joe public who would snatch an unattended cell phone...
  18. Well it wasn't raining when I got up, but it was by the time I finished my coffee. Jumped a huge buck 10' from my approach trail so this sucks. At least the rain appears to be stopping...
  19. I don't ride my motorcycle in the rain. I almost never hunt in any rain above a drizzle or passing shower. It's not enjoyable. The season is long enough that I don't need to start resenting something I love so much. That is, of course all dependent on when I schedule vacation or if it's late in the season. I'm fortunate enough where I can usually take days off with little notice though.
  20. x2. this law is not meant to restrict those ready, but to protect from those who are not and who do not have the luxury of good parenting.
  21. that sucks to hear grow. heel up!
  22. sheep, i've read these scientific studies. I'm not being fed anything. I have a degree in in environmental engineering so i like to believe i do understand the merits of published scientific studies and how creditable they are. I will concede to you that yes, it's not "all about geography" but is by far and large a contributing factor. Do not forget that back in the days of Native americans the deer were fewer and far between. They could not sustain their numbers on natrual forage. There were no big farms to eat off of and help them survive the winter. We need to manage populations the best we can. Need a balance in sexes and need hunters to practice ARs. All that said though, there are very nice deer in NY. There are nicer and more deer in the midwest.
  23. i follow you just fine steve. I was confused about Bubba's comment.
  24. I have the hunter safety system and the spider. Spider hands down no contest. It's pricey, but you asked best. So I'm not a fanboy. Own them both.
