  1. Very good point that people miss. Even drinking coffee before hunting can be bad. I can't help it though. I usually go with the 20gram power bars for food. It depends on how serious you want to get. I'll never understand the guys that full their trucks up at the gas station in their gear though.
  2. My wife and I, and my parents have typically only needed 2 nice bucks (150lb+). We share a big stand up. But last year we ran out of everything but ground in July. My goal is to shoot 2 bucks and so is my dad's but he's retired now and only after the trophies. So I don't shoot doe until MZ and if we have 3 bucks between us during MZ then I'm not shooting a doe. If we don't, then I am. And our neighbors shoot plenty of doe for us to not worry about balancing the herd. We do give some away as well, but only to those I know who will eat it. Also Castanzas gets some good business from us.
  3. i do all the soap and spray and use the scent blocker body and hair deodorant liquid stuff too. Even scent free toothpaste. but i'm not shaving and avoiding red meat haha. I don't usually get busted.
  4. generally a bleat call is a doe in heat and brings in a buck... so...
  5. the iphone. but i try not to over use it. early on in the hunt i enjoy the peacefulness and watching the world wake up.
  6. but all the windbag politicians clearly pointed out they weren't going after hunters. Truth or not, they knew the PR behind it. that was my point. the meat that they or someone eats shawn. not that which they throw away. come on silly head, you're smarter than that.
  7. maybe when i was younger and single I'd get thrown in jail for my rights too shawn. Maybe some day if a woman finds you somewhat bearable to live with and start a family you'll change your mind too.
  8. can't stop now. it's a trainwreck that you cant look away from. so when we're talking "meat". not organs or oddball organs like his donk. What I throw away is the ribs and perhaps some scraps in the lower legs and inner stomach linings. the deer is harvested and if i weighed all the meat i toss versus keep. i bet it's close to 95%. maybe ill do the study next deer i shoot for you.
  9. risking my future by making a stink at a traffic stop is not something i'm going to do. There is very little good going to come of that. suddenly my tail light is busted. suddenly i resisted arrest. suddenly they thought i was reaching for my gun. too much corruption to think the gov't will have my back. Early may call me a sheeple or whatever and that's fine. I'm still armed to my teeth and not giving up my guns. the traffic stop search is not on my list of worries when i consider my freedoms. besides, Early knows I can't waste my time at the stop because I need to fertilize my plots and check my cams.
  10. there has never been a scientific accurate study on crossbows done. lets bring ARs into this. we haven't done that yet.
  11. idk, perhaps I'm out of touch with the anti hunters but when gun control was real hot, even the anti gun pushers knew hunters were off limits. I think there was a time during the hippy days where hunting wasn't cool. I dont encounter that much if at all. Will there always be people against hunting? sure. but i believe most people recognize hunting as a primal part of who we are.
  12. come on doc. You know exactly what I meant. If you have no problem with a guy wasting 95% of the edidle parts of the deer then that's your view. Mine is that when possible a hunter should do his or her best to use as much as the deer as possible. I think most hunters agree on what is common to save. Some go the extra mile with certain organs. Personally I do not eat heart or liver. But I've never had someone give me a hard time about that. I do however donate these organs to a local woman who raises wolves. The hide is sold by the butcher and I eat the rest. I think that's doing the animal justice. And I'm pretty sure others feel the same.
  13. it was a stretch of an analogy i'll admit. I guess as a new parent and a young family there are certain things I do not have the freedom to do. Fighting the gov't is one of them. I'm not saying i will just lie down and take it, but I am glad there are many like you out there willing to lay it on the line.
  14. i get this too. Had to have a talk with the neighbors and their response was... "well she's a senior in high school" she will be leaving soon. WTF? To the OP. While the other hunters are technically tresspassing, I doubt they've been told not to hunt their and may have been doing so for generationgs. So I think it's fair to be nice about it at first. See where it goes. I know land around me that's a free for all. It's not until a hunter buys the property or leases it that it becomes a challenge to start enforcing the rules and some understand... some do not. You also might find they try to one-up your lease. They do deserve that chance too i guess. If your lease is free and she's all about killing as many deer as possible, i think you're SOL
  15. that's how i feel in Tulley valley some times.
  16. shotgun opening day. but the last few years I couldn't stand it. it's just too long and not enjoyable for me.
  17. if you shoot the small 8's then you're just hurting your odds of more bruisers next year. I'm not against shooting the 8, but if your goal is to shoot bigger bucks you have to pass the young'ins and you need your neighbors to do the same.
  18. a 6.5 in the wild might be peak, but also might be on the downturn.
  19. a lot of studies have shown that the unless you're hunting open fields, the likelihood of a rifle bullet hitting an unattended target is just the same as a slug. A lot of these studies were used to overturn the slug only counties. My concern though is that NW Wayne county is not really any different than parts of Monroe. And I hope that if there's anyone hunting the fields near Wayne central that theyre using their brain. The rest of Wayne should have been rifle a long time ago. Personally I'm hoping for them to split Onondaga county up and let Tully Valley and other areas use rifle. Seems half the valley does anyhow haha.
  20. people have been arguing the constitutional validity of road blocks for years. I'll tell you what. Some scum bag nabs my little boy or some convicted felon escapes from jail. I have no problem with some road blocks. I also have no issue with anyone here exercising their rights if they have several hours to kill and as someone else mentioned, the time to piss off a cop who will just try harder to find something. In my line of work my facility is audited a lot. The more you try and hide, the sneaker you seem the deeper the auditors dig. I obey the laws of this state and country. So if the officer is polite, and I'm polite then usually we're good. He starts getting all fancy on me for no reason then I would certainly exercise my rights as well. Some of you just seem to want to cause a scene. You're probably the same people that hope one day you get to use your carry. I carry, but I hope I never need it.
  21. just a basic primos trophy hunter. no bells and whistles, just an adjustable tube. I like simple stupid with calls, but I dont use them a lot.
  22. I guess I'm just used to the shoulder crush. It's all I know
