  1. It's a bow or its not ( I, the IBO and other archery organizations and websters say yes). One's age or abilities do not define whether or not it's a bow.
  2. My thoughts are they need to either be accepted as archery equipment or not. Compromise could be in equipment restrictions such as lbs, limb minimum length, etc.
  3. And there are shots that can be taken easier and more accurately with a compound. Same thing with a recurve vs compound vs crossbow.
  4. Lots of states have added the crossbow to their bow season. There must be stats available to back up the fear that there is a big influx of new hunters that where gun hunters only. Where are they?
  5. Even without the new gun law relate, it is a slap to NY resident hunters and especially to those that bought lifetime before the hike. That's as nice as I can say it.
  6. Actually Sam, I was solid with your position for years up till about 4 years ago. Hope for you yet.
  7. Same was said when the compound 1st came in. It is a form of a bow and was allowed as is should the crossbow. Compound did far more to effect the season that trad hunters had, then a xbow will. Of course this is only an opinion, but one based on seeing what has happened in every state where included. There are way more advantages to a compound over a recurve than a cpmd to xbow. Xbow does have some advantages over a cpmd but there are disadvantages as well - which I listed above and where missed or ignored. I have yet to hear anyone supporting xbow inclusion ever advocating this. They want to see all bows in the bow season. Point has no relevance to the discussion.
  8. Simply asked him the same question he asked another. He knew the answer and was just being insulting. Curious what the criteria is for being one of the best? Does that give one's opinion more weight when setting the bar for who is a "goon hunter"? Does it allow them to attempt to insult and discredit another hunter by implying they might not be a bow hunter?
  9. I know where US is - niece lives there and I bow hunt a few times a year just south. Pointing out your elitism was stating a fact and not an attempt to hurt your feelings. It's clear what you want - everyone hunt by Sam's rules or they don't belong. Still didn't answer if you are even a hunter.
  10. Weight. Noise. Limb clearance - most obstructions in the woods are vertical. Off hand accuracy is less than a compound - check IBO scores where both are shot on the same ranges. Gun Goons?? Right at the top of the most elitist, anti hunting statements I've seen by a sportsman. You asked WNY, so I'll ask you - are you even a hunter? Yep - anyone not hunting by your rules is a slob. Fact is there are slobs in any endeavor regardless of tool used.
  11. Great post dead on - especially the parts I highlighted. Probably 1/3 of the bowhunters (all compounders) that come in my friends shop in CNY express willingness to possibly try crossbows when they are approved for the bow season. The % goes even higher among those that you only see the 2 or 3 weeks before bow season starts. And before I am asked, I currently bow hunt - last 2 years recurve exclusively.
  12. Mike - was being sarcastic. I don't feel any reduction is needed, but $1 is just stupid to bother with. No incentive and just hurt's the fund
  13. Not really - unless they start giving them out free.
  14. Not a one. My time in the woods is to escape technology - not run to it.
  15. $1 less for a bowhunting licence - I bet that changes a lot of minds.
  16. You guys are shooting the messenger. He isn't posting articles because he supports them.
  17. Hunters opinions will be bought for $7???? That's less then 2 cents per day! Do I get a rebate for the lifetime sportsman with archery and MZ that I paid $1000 plus for before the hike a couple years ago? Nothing he does will make me think he has any good in mind for NY. Nothing.
  18. It's surprising how many coyote hunters don't feel posted signs apply to them. Almost as surprising as how many others seem to agree. Most would likely give permission if the coyote hunters would ever bother to ask - like before just going and getting caught.
  19. I'd shoot a few 1st. 55 lbs is a lot for most starting out. Important to get form down 1st and to do so you need a draw weight where you can control the shot beginning to end and not tire and get sloppy before the end of a practice session.
