Four Season Whitetail's replied to G-Man's topic in General Hunting
Its been said many times that while that deer stands on your land you are the owner, Will be fun to watch where this goes from here. -
Went to the docs today.....doesnt look good
Four Season Whitetail's replied to MACHINIST's topic in Turkey Hunting
Yes i can see it coming on. Problem is, here they are already starting to break up into smaller groups and into different parts of the farm...and strutting! 8 strutters on 400 acres of beans and corn, from what could be seen from the road anyways. -

Pennsylvania changes..not sure about these
Four Season Whitetail's replied to G-Man's topic in General Hunting
A guy would have to give up his tag so his or another kid could hunt...Not that would show who reallly wants to get youths hunting. Extended season..Thats a good thing if there is an over population. Ny should do that in some of the 8's with does only being taken, if you have places to hunt the 8's then you get 2 extra weeks with 2 extra tags, that may remove some deer! -
So do you think NYS will expand the crossbow season
Four Season Whitetail's replied to MACHINIST's topic in CrossBow Hunting
And for me at my stage of hunting life it is more the animal. I cant just sit in a tree and wait for something to walk by, shoot it and call it hunting any longer. I now need to find an animal or two to kill and then go.. Hunt Them..until i win or its a bust. Will i shoot a mature buck that fits the bill for me that i didnt know was there, you bet ya but to just go sit and wait without having a quarry or two just does not do it for me any longer. Like i said before, I am sure in some areas just finding a deer, any deer, would be like the same as having a single buck or two picked out. -

Four Season Whitetail's replied to MACHINIST's topic in CrossBow Hunting
I think thats where some call themselves hunters...Pick out a deer and hunt it until success or failure, Others called shooters..Pick out the first deer they see and shoot it. Some say just killing a deer is not hunting no matter where they stand but i would think in some low deer numbered areas that just finding any deer to shoot would be called hunting. -
Have a great one!

Nonresident hunting in ny with 30 cal ar
Four Season Whitetail's replied to Slaynbux's topic in General Chit Chat
Nah 13 pages are plenty. No good wasting more time arguing about something that none of the arguers have a say about one way or the other, One man dictates the good of the common citizen in Ny state. Looks like everybody will be living with that for awhile. Never did like the looks of those killing machines myself. -
Really did i read that age right? Just a sapling in the forest of life. Have a great one.

Thinking about switching to single pin sight
Four Season Whitetail's replied to regulat0r's topic in Bow Hunting
1 pin here for years. 10 to 30 with no thoughts. After you do it for awhile it will come natural where to hold depending on how far out the deer is standing. If i took 40 yarders i would add another but i find no need for 40 yds shots with my setups. -
Have a great one!

So why did the crazy people that shot up schools and other places grab the Ar and shoot the places up? Because they are a cool looking killing machine. An 06 auto would have shot and killed people just as dead. -
Funny how they have no info on Ft Drum. They have to check in all their kills on Drum so there should be good record keeping on harvests. That probably works into my favor as far as managing my property but still should be some kind of report for those 109,000 acres!

I don't find it "political"
Four Season Whitetail's replied to growalot's topic in General Chit Chat
It works, been prescribing it for years. Nothing wrong with me yet and im in my 50's. I sure would like to be the first one to open shop in Ny when they give the go ahead. That would be another nice paying business for sure. -
I think money will be the driver. I really think Ny is buying into the idea of non resident tags and such and they are going along with the antler craze like the rest of the country. Truth is that there are only a few areas of Ny that are over populated, Not counting the cities that are way over populated.

How involved are you with new hunter recruitment?
Four Season Whitetail's replied to wooly's topic in General Hunting
That i am afraid is a battle that will be lost. Land to hunt will be the big deal breaker. State land will have no animals and deep pockets will have the rites to the best properties. On another post there is talk about bow, muzzle and gun, Well if you look you will see that most that bow hunt are hunters that are after the top animals in the woods. Real hunters if you will. Most guys that just gun are the tag fillers or the weekend warriors if you will. The weekend warrior will be the first to drop and the bow/muzzle hunter will be the one to dig deep and lock down property. -
The boys cleaned house here this weekend also. Will have to get some pics. Have to keep them in check!

Four Season Whitetail's replied to wooly's topic in General Hunting
I dont know of any young un's that want to get into hunting so about all i can do is open the gates to guys that ask to hunt my land that want to take young kids. -
Agree to a point but in many places this has been the way for a few years and its working. Most that own and work land know a little about the deer that run their land and have been managing their property accordingly. I believe the more the herd gets screwed up the more people will manage their lands for what they want and not what the state wants them to have.
-
Do you really think the public is any better equipped? I know there are not many i would trust to make decisions for whats best for my property. Thats why many have taken that job upon themselves. Right or wrong law wise....It is working better for them and their properties. Some hunters with land want many and they are getting them and many farmers that are also hunters do not want many because of crop losses and they are keeping the numbers very low.

I have plenty of pot shops around me. Never have a problem hooking up with the numbers. The first person to open theirs legal for medical in Ny state will be a rich person fast. I have talked to guys in Colorado and they have grown in leaps and bounds in that area with no slowing down in sight. -
Yeah they have lost faith of the within the law thing. They have 1000 acre tracts and believe that they have a better handle on things within their tracts. From some i have seen it seems to be working!
-
Agreed and thats why many i know have began doing their own type of deer management on their properties. So far everyone that has done it has saw good things happen. Of course everybody has their own thoughts on what a good thing is but some had way to many and some had not enough on their lands, seems to be corrected now.

Letchworth is pretty good but make sure you get a permit.
