  1. Thats easy..Those states are made up of and made for big time.big deer hunters. They want an demand trophy size deer and the states make $ very well out of the deal. There are also plenty of deer for the weekend meat hunter. No long drawn out affair and the seasons and weapons used during those seasons shows this. No guns during the rut. Huge!
  2. No you are right and many are afraid of change. It will take time to change things for the better but we must start some where. I dont believe many would drop out of hunting if it was only a week or two split season or something. They would adjust their time and go out and kill a deer. Hunters will hunt. The ones that are not vested or call themselves hunters are on the fence even now to call it quits. Hunters will find the time to hunt. Why do you think some pay outfitters or even high fence? Time. The whole world is a changing and hunting for many is not a long drawn out season that includes different weapons. They have a week or two vaca and 1 goes to hunting and 1 goes to the family. Very few are lucky enough to fill in 3 months of deer hunting.
  3. True and maybe...Just Maybe..Some in Ny are catching on. Most people dont really care what rules are what. They will still hunt. The older folks will drop out regardless and the same very low numbers of new hunters will come in, Regardless of rules. We discussed this before and i was told i was full of it..and maybe i am..but i said hunting was headed to $ one way or the other and it still looks like its headed that way. Many say they already choose to let the baby bucks walk and DEC see's that so they figure its no big deal if they make it a law. People are already doing it anyways right? That would take care of Ar. So now they look at the 1 buck rule, They want more and bigger bucks for the masses that plant, cut and do any other crazy thing to kill a big buck and spend big $ to do it so they will pass the 1 buck rule. This will in turn force more doe harvests in the areas that they want doe harvests and by cutting 7 days of of hunting season will force the time thing on hunters so they better harvest one asap. They have it all figured out.
  4. Yes and those people will still be that kind of hunter even with new rules. Most hunt for 1 or 2 reasons. Meat or antlers. Those same hunters will still get their singing birds and love of the woods along with great deer hunting. Anybody that will hang up hunting because of a rule change is not very vested in te game and could jump ship on a whim for a number of reasons. Most will just adjust to the change and hopfully watch the hunting improve. For some, it cant get worse.
  5. Start has to come first and what they are thinking is at least a start and people bitch all the time about hunting this and hunting that so it really should be no big deal. Just something else for some to bitch about. Then again, who knows, they may just hit a home run. And yes,,,Just take guns out of any phases of the rut and we could very easy have some Ohio like areas in Ny state. Very easy!
  6. Very little..If a person is a hunter then they will hunt. If they love venison, they will hunt. If they love bone, they will hunt. If property is already untouchable by hunters in an area all of a sudden does not get hunted it wont change the area's hunting much. If the land you speak of was only hunted by a few in the family and all the deer were on that property, the deer will still be on that property and still wont be able to be touched by other local hunters. We sure dont need to be losing hunters but if tey would hang up the hat because of some changes ten they were not long for the game anyways.
  7. I think you will see better population control if they break up the state like they should and base harvest rates on what is really there. They need to get a handle on what deer are in what areas and then put rules in based on those numbers. 1 buck rule and lots of doe harvest will be a great thing in my hunting area in the tier and 1 buck with normal doe harvest would be a good thing in my north hunting area. 3 months of pressure is not needed in the north and split seasons would be even better. Some wonder why deer get pushed onto say property like mine, where we see good bucks chasing does in the middle of the day but hunt a couple miles either way and see trucks parked there every day and see no deer. There is a reason for that.
  8. I dont know, i have spoke with a couple people that are kinda around that group at times and their feelings is that we are going to feel the sticker shock..1 buck for all seasons, Ar in high density areas and a week or two chopped of the Northern season and maybe only a 2 week gun season in the Tier... If you look at the survey you will see those same questions asked of the hunters. I gave my positive thoughts on those good ideas.
  9. Most public land is like that now as far as hunters. They will let crossbow into archery so the numbers will go up. If they took guns out of the rut and shorten the season many Ny areas would have some intense archery seasons in a year or two. Add in the 1 buck rule and Ar and sky is the limit in some Ny woods. No doubt the bone would grow...If thats what their after in some areas?
  10. Which is why you will see the 1 buck rule state wide, Ar in high deer areas . They will cater to the bigger population that want bigger deer and they will force those high deer areas to shoot does. They may make the season shorter to force the shot sort of...You know. I better take this legal buck because i might not see another or i better take this doe because i have to work overtime and i only have 3 more days in the season to hunt.
  11. Very self inflicted and nothing about the QDM would change and really if there are a lot of does as you say then it may very well affect it because of to many does. Thats a mind set that they will change..They are Ok with killing 2 baby bucks but wont shoot a 6-7 year old doe?
  12. I dont get it...They still can take a buck throughout the season. Unless they happen to take the first legal buck they see. Having the choice for 2 bucks gives most hunters the green light to shoot a yearling and then wait for a racker for awhile and then kill another yearling when the racker does not show up.
  13. Why do they need more than 1 male if they can also take females? Cant eat the rack remember?
  14. Here is a reason not to support Ar...If only we had CWD! The Maryland Department of Natural Resources received laboratory confirmation on January 16, 2015 that four additional white-tailed deer harvested in Maryland tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD), bringing the total number of overall positive cases to six. The deer, all male, were harvested in the CWD Management Area in Allegany County during the regular deer firearm season Word has it that these were male positives also. Have not confirmed that yer! TUESDAY, JANUARY 20, 2015 Iowa Two Wild Deer Test Positive for Chronic Wasting Disease in Allamakee County Two Wild Deer Test Positive for Chronic Wasting Disease in Allamakee County Posted: 01/20/2015 Two wild deer harvested during the recent hunting season have been confirmed positive for chronic wasting disease in Allamakee County. The first case of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in a wild Iowa deer was confirmed in Allamakee County in 2014. They need to shut down these states before they infect the whole country. Wild deer know no borders.
  15. They already tell you what, when and how many deer you can harvest. Dont you think that new dad would have liked to kill that little great tasting buck with 21/2 inch spikes?
  16. Long term No but short term it sure would save alot of lives. Alot of those little yearlings would not be seen again after the first weekend in some spots.
  17. So True. 196 day gestation period. Bred Nov 15th= A tiny blob.
  18. Those that want the public to believe something have very good ways of twisting things so people believe. Look what they did with disease's. Twist wording to make sound devastating.
  19. This kind of points to whats going on over in BC with non residents. They bring in more money for animals so they are starting to cater to them. This also points to the direction hunting is headed...Again! Sure makes the ones that own property..and those rights...Glad they own land and should make those that want hunting in their future to...................... Go Get Ya Some!
  20. To bad there would be no way to check and see if DEC listens to remarks or they go ahead and do what they already plan on doing. I believe its all been decided for us an they are just waiting to put it to print. They seem to want to make alot of changes before summer and thats not very far away. Its all but written.
  21. True there id flack from both sides but i would say there is more against the Trophy hunter. How its ruined hunting because of Tv shows and being able to go somewhere and pay someone to hunt regardless of a fence and how it gives hunting a bad look. It was said before about the 10% kill the 90% and i believe its those kind of hunters that make it to trophy status. Most dont have the means to be able to find mature deer and harvest them on a steady basis because that takes a fair amount of means.
  22. Arrow through the face and then snapped both sides off. lol..Strange, Whatever it is.
  23. For me..and most..A farm is just that. Raise animals like any other Ag business. Ranch is termed Hunting Ranch. Hunting,Harvesting,Killing, What have you, is done there. Many more acres and a whole different habitat. Thats my point when i call bullsh!t on those that say 2000 acres of regular habitat is not fair chase. I know how big 2000 acres behind fence looks like and when you have a couple mountains, piles of swamps, 200 acre corn fields,hardwoods...yeah right..how good of hunting property does that sound like? I know i would not bet someone that i could look at a pic of a deer and say Oh i could pull him out of there with no problem. Wont happen.lol
  24. I agree and i do it myself on state land but the point is people pay for better chances of killing deer. Be it a 2000 acre ranch or a 100 farm.
