  1. Im pretty sure thats the scare tactics certain people or groups would have you believe because they wanna do away with the system. Without getting too specific the same group that fought Medicare back when it was first introduced...
  2. Medicare is one of the finest health systems in the world, it has helped millions of older Americans to live healthy lives and be able to keep what they worked for their whole lives. The free market economy thing you mentioned would be much like the private for profit health insurance industry that is killing Americans today, with ever increasing cost, ever decreasing benefits. My ancestors also came from another country, one where old people got sick and just died because they ran out of money?
  3. What are you guys feelings on Romney/Ryan's plans on completely changing a system (Medicare & S.S.) that the elderly have relied on for 50 years. I gotta say im really having my doubts about this voucher and privatization thing. And once its changed its gone folks?
  4. good story, ive done that midnight tracking also, alot of fun. congrats on the doe!!!
  5. pellets are made by a corporation. and what do corporations do once they figure they got you hooked on thier product? great alternate source of heat but the well to do corp slime mongers will work the price up to 15.00 a bag when they can. thats why i burn wood.
  6. does the ghillie suit ever get caught up in your bowstring, just wondering, have you ever been shot at by other hunters or photographed while walking in the woods with the suit on, serious questions?
  7. i use both, ladder stands or ground blinds. i wanna hunt to a ripe old age and can see that one day ground blinds may be my only option.
  8. Hey Elmo, your story is no doubt one that gets a man thinking, holy CRAP! Anyway replace that climber with a good quality heavy duty climber, spend 250+ plus bucks. Also you have to pick good straight trees without branches that are so thick that you just cant cut them with a little folding saw, and never put your feet/weight too close to the tree.... And i know this may sound cleyshay but you must get right back up on that horse that threw you, there is so so much truth to that. Not meaning the same stand of course but get hold of another good quality unit and do a few practice climbs in daylight to get your confidence back.. And yes those could very well be the start of some early scraping in the photos, not always easy to smell the pee as it absorbs into the dirt quickly with rain and dew.
  9. the wind gusted so strong yesterday afternoon that i came down outta my stand and stood at the bottom of my tree for about 30 minutes, then as if someone flipped a switch the wind just stopped, i went right back up and hunted till dark...
  10. thats why i have switched to mechanicals 17 years ago. i shoot feild points of the same weight for practice then screw on a few rocket arrow heads and im ready....no fuss no muss....
  11. heck if they are sharp i would try them, do they sell mechanicals??
  12. shooting mothers isnt as horrible as it sounds, the youngins make their way just fine. they are 5 - 6 months at that time. heck ive even shot some of the youngins also, oohhh i also eat veal and cornish game hens, spring lamb, and suckling pig. so im well on my way to hell anyway....lol.
  13. you got a good point about the beauty, ive walked the woods down south and they are plain UGLY. kinda looks like haunted forests down there with weird crap hanging from all the trees. the fall season sucks as far as fiolage, its hot during hunting season, uuugghh and the the forest floor has sand on it and the freakin bugs and snakes, i just dont think im ready for hunting in the south. ohhhh and the deer got little bodies.
  14. i always wondered on hunting shows where they are hunting the corner of a huge food plot they still get the deer to come right to the corner they have their stand located in?
  15. i know of too many people including families that moved south or out west and long to be back in NY state, many have come back. ive heard things from not being accepted to not being able to make a living or it just sucks compared to NY. alot of people will resent you for just being from NY when they know you sold your 500 thousand dollar house to buy a 90 thousand dollar house in their town. had a good friend move back up from Virginia acouple years back, said everyone down there is a bible thompin wacko...
  16. alot of the more north counties the guys are mentioning above are indeed beautifull, i did alot of looking before i moved to ulster but gotta say delaware and that area around oneonta are something to behold..sometimes i wish i woulda bought there...you might wanna aviod the areas around lake ontario unless you really like snow. sullivan county, well what can i say, huge hasidic communities and the towns are really starting to show what the recession is all about, hope im not insulting anyone, sorry if i did.....
  17. yea that whole area is 3A. no doe permits, few deer. black bear get big up that way and i saw a nice cinnamin a few years back....the forests up that way have grown very mature and the state land could really use some managment in the way of controlled cutting to spur young growth to help beef up the deer population. they havent givin out doe permits up there in like 20 years now. i used to hunt that region back in the 70s and as recent as 8 years ago...beautifull country..
  18. i moved up to Ulster from Long Island 9 years ago and will be stepping out the back door to get into one of me treestands in about 40 mins. Orange and Ulster counties are higher property tax but higher opportunity also with Middletown, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie all very close, and NY is only 90 mins away for the big money. alot of people up here commute to NYC. theres tons of state land. I will fill you in more later iffin you want as to towns and nieghborhoods. gotta get ready now.....
  19. i had the same thing about 6 years ago and i stopped shooting for a couple weeks when i resumed practicing it was gone. its hard to practice that (some call it target panic)away for me, seems the more i shot the worse it got..
  20. congrats on getting back, your just in time and the deer herd looks good here in NY state...best of luck!
