Selfie deaths are now more common than shark attacks
EspressoBuzz replied to EspressoBuzz's topic in General Chit Chat
I dunno Lawdwaz I think there are more than enough signs warning the public to stay way from the cliff or no one allowed beyond this point in Public spaces. -
Selfie deaths are now more common than shark attacks http://www.stylist.co.uk/life/selfie-deaths-are-now-more-common-than-shark-attacks-selfie-tips-advice "Yellowstone National Park meanwhile, has had to issue an official warning to visitors after five people have been gored by bison in the past four months alone, while trying to pose for a selfie with the wild beasts. And in further sad but true news, a Wikipedia page has been started, documenting every known selfie death since 2014. The majority of incidents have involved people between the ages of 18 and 22, and it’s hoped that dare devil selfies are part of a passing trend." Just like dumb asses naturally cull themselves while uttering phrases like "hold my beer and watch this", cell phones are now helping narcissists cull themselves!

I stand corrected as a search i did for beheadings didn't turn up anything. Still 1 actual and 1 threatened isn't "several". -
What it was like to spend five weeks embedded with the Bundy militants in Oregon http://www.rawstory.com/2016/02/what-it-was-like-to-spend-five-weeks-embedded-with-the-bundy-militants-in-oregon/ "This would-be revolution proved that geography matters: the people of Harney County are not the people of Bunkerville, Nevada – and on the whole they are not interested in overthrowing the federal government. In fact, Harney County is a recognized national leader in collaborative efforts between local land users, conservationists and federal natural resource agencies designed precisely to avoid unnecessary hardships to local communities that can set off conflicts."

I have searched for any hint , whisper or even the illusion of a beheading on US soil. and have found NOTHING. NOTHING! post the article or where you got your facts, or if the willful media burial of that story is true, how did you find out about it? -
Oregon state agency asks the Dept. of Justice to investigate militant-friendly Grant County sheriff Seems the State is just as unhappy with and terrorized by the militias as the Feds. As I've siad their demands that the lands be turned over to the states is a red herring. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/2/18/1487287/-Oregon-state-agency-asks-the-Dept-of-Justice-to-investigate-militant-friendly-Grant-County-sheriff

I don't know where you got your facts both they are different and they are compatible with capitalism as anyone who has read The Wealth Of Nations can tell you. While capitalism can be very good Adam Smith warned against the concentration of wealth in the hand of a few as it can skew the system and cause imbalance.

Evil is inexact and is derived from ones own moral code. Both the Bundys and the Hammonds however have been tried and found guilty in a court of law. Not just for what we have read here but in each case criminal activity dating back to the 1980s. Even a modest search will reveal that they have both been denounced by fellow/neighboring ranchers for overgrazing, cutting fences, threatening wildlife officers, and more. When I started reading I honestly didn't think what they were doing was a big deal but having read as much as I have I can't see how anyone could view their activities as anything but criminal. Just look at the poaching thread and how people posting there wouldn't mind "pulling the switch" themselves on poachers and here someone massacres a herd of deer and there is not a peep.

Industry, properly regulated is good. The history of America as recently as Love Canal has shown that industries cannot be trusted to protect the land. There is a compromise, timber is harvested, minerals extracted, agriculture is allowed, all overseen by a un-perfect but focused Dept of our Government entrusted with protecting the land while allowing such activities. The fact is that this is not enough for some or not perfect enough for others. Also PT while the BLM grazing program loses $125 million annually, and the other depts (timber, mineral extraction, agriculture) lose also, is a political choice our elected officials have made. We could in theory not pay a dime for maintenance and just not allow anything on any federal land or we could raise the fees everyone agrees are lower than they should be and make up the difference. The money spent maintaining the land is actually money spent on maintaining the PROGRAMS that allow and oversee exploitation of the lands. As I have said before the states do not want these lands as it would cost them to administer them, the few states that do want them don't want all of the lands just the places where known resources exist and are protected because of habitat or strategic reasons. Any hunter who has ever dreamed or taken that hunt out west for your dream trophy should be concerned. The Hammonds have been threatening hunters who hunt BLM lands adjacent to theirs. It was a reason for their slaughter of a herd of deer and the fire set to cover it up. These are facts and these people do not support you as a hunter. Arid land out west does not hold the same number of animals as lands in the east, has greater population swings and in some places habitat is quite endangered. At some point you have to ask who really wants these lands and why.

We wouldn't we'd be waving magazines, books and white papers written specifically for our point of view!

This is exactly what I wanted to convey, and you said it perfectly!

I don't know if thats fair Bubba, just because someone isn't interest in politics here (HuntingNY) doesn't mean they are not active elsewhere in some other political forum or out on the streets.
-
I disagree, the reason it is "relegated to 2nd class status" is because this is a HUNTING forum.

Tell you what I noticed shortly after joining a couple of years back. In the midst of important discussions about policy, funding, law & punishment all pertaining to hunting in one form or another certain members can not resist making an anti government or king Andy comment as if it furthers the conversation in a meaningful way. I hunt, I own guns, I am un-ashamedly a Democrat but most importantly I am from Brooklyn and have thick skin. Others are not, and potential new members may come from all walks of life even liberal hipsters who hunt in pork pie hats sporting weird goatees. Censorship? No, but their doesn't have to be hate speak sprinkled in all the threads.

On Long Island I've found the D.E.C. Law Enforcement Officers work hard are polite and very very helpful, from which tactic to which spots are better for what game animal and more I have nothing but respect for their efforts!

First Tactic: The US acquired the land in the west by the Louisiana purchase, Gadsden purchase, Mexican Cession & a British Treaty. The Federal gov't couldn't get rid of all the land even with the homestead act which gave land away for NOTHING, even today the States with the most Federal land are the most sparsely populated and the most arid. The states DON'T want it it would cost too much to administer as currently the land loses 125 million dollars annually with low grazing and mining fees. Second Tactic: Is this where the Koch Industries comes in and "wanted that land for themselves-for vital purposes such as" mineral extraction, timber harvesting, etc.

Livestock grazing continues on state and federal lands throughout the arid West. Livestock grazing is promoted, protected and subsidized by federal agencies on approximately 270 million acres of public land in the 11 western states. Federal-lands livestock grazing enjoys more than $100 million annually in direct subsidies; indirect subsidies may be three times that. The federal livestock grazing program is heavily subsidized. The western livestock industry would evaporate as suddenly as fur trapping if it had to pay market rates for services it gets from the federal government. The federal lands grazing program generated $125 million less than what the federal government spent on the program in 2014. Further, federal grazing fees are 93 percent less than fees charged for non-irrigated western private grazing land, or just $1.69 per animal per month for each cow and calf that grazes the public land. (It costs more to feed a house cat.) By his own words Cliven Bundy thought he was paying too much and could place more animals than allowed.
