  1. The California drought has stressed all the wildlife and plants there, I am not surprised that animal confrontations of all kinds are up in the west. Glad NY has a long season and no bag limits, studies have shown the east coast population is as much as 3 percent wolf DNA.
  2. Does anyone hunt for snapping turtles? I'm thinking of trying it on Long island. Anything you can tell me about the experience and methods would be cool.
  3. China has a 4 trillion dollar surplus and It's central bank has been bolstering their stock market. My charts show it will weather this downturn and begin a slow steady gain.

    Beware

Wow, I feel horrible. I had recommended him and I have used him in the past for butchering and simple stuff and was happy but I don't know if it was Jerry who I dealt with. I will say something IF I go back there, I don't know if these fools are even aware of what the internet can do to your rep.
  5. Years ago when i first started taking my future wife camping and backpacking she had a problem falling asleep because she kept hearing Bigfoot or the one lone mountain lion in New York outside our tent. So i bought a tiny Radioshack radio with a tiny speaker that ran on a 9 volt battery, I'd place it on low in the tent pocket that's usually behind and above where your head would be and it pretty much solved the problem, even the white noise static worked!
  6. I love backpacking and still have my 4 season tent from those days. Nowadays I'm car camping and while I enjoy many campsites from Long Island to the Adirondacks my favorite state campground is Taconic State Park Copake Falls. For those of you car camping who want more privacy the general rule is DEC campgrounds are less packed together (except for few along prime trout streams or in high traffic areas) and parks in Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites system are more crowded together but have more family and comfort features.
  7. Oh I know it is, I just couldn't resist a ball joke if ya know what I mean (nudge nudge). I love the fact that it was so widely broadcast internationally.
  8. I wonder if it's because they didn't have chewing gum to chew or balls to scratch ....
  9. There is a range master at Brookhaven who grills up some bear meat occasionally and it not only smelled great but was very tasty and tender too. he did say a lot of prep and care was taken to trim all the fat and marinate it well. But honestly it was awesome.
  10. Honestly read a book. A text book not a propaganda book. There is so much that is different economically between Greece and the USA I hardly know where to begin. For one, Greece entered into negative population growth, does not control it's own currency, interest on it's loans is astronomical (World Bank and European Bank intentionally does this to countries to keep them in line and poor). This is not to say that their problem are not their own making. But much like the mortgage bankers in the USA who loaned money to people who were barely fiscally stable in good times or outright couldn't afford it, Greece borrowed money (mostly German) to buy goods (mostly German) in good times and could not hold on when the economy turned sour. The USA military budget is so large that if ever there was a real threat to our economy the "austerity" cuts could come from it and never affect our social safety net. It's the word entitlement that makes everyone crazy, well perhaps it's better to have those tanks no general wants or needs and are trying to stop from being made, but that pork barrel politicians want and need to secure donations from the "Industrial Military Machine" Eisenhower spoke of, instead of securing the health and well being of our aging population. We should be fighting for a redirection of our money toward education, infrastructure, energy and transportation.
  11. an·ec·do·tal ˌanəkˈdōdl/ adjective adjective: anecdotal (of an account) not necessarily true or reliable, because based on personal accounts rather than facts or research. fact fakt/ noun plural noun: facts a thing that is indisputably the case.
  12. Wow I'd like to know how this "certain person" managed to make gun sales spike the moment he got into office or for that matter got all those cops to shoot unarmed black people.
  13. Congrats! 15 years smoke free myself. You'll never be a non smoker, there will always be the temptation, you just resist it one cig at a time.
  14. I call bull crap! I know making up your own facts that have an air of "truthiness" is a hobby for you but really do you believe your own crap?
  15. Man is dragged under and killed by giant 11ft alligator in Texas marina after he ignored the warning signs AND his friends' desperate pleas not to swim http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3148522/Man-killed-Texas-alligator-attack-late-night-swim.html

  17. Yeah i'm watching and hoping it isn't a rout while we still win!
  18. What Elmo said and even where allowed it's not allowed on parts of trails that pass through campgrounds. I've carried an AR7 on every backpacking/canoe packing trip I've ever taken in NY. When i started in the mid 70s it was a Charter Arm AR7 and I had illusions of hiking and eating small game. I did get a chance to do that on some longer trips but not as much as i had imagined. Still I got used to having it and to this day I have my trusty Henry AR7 when I'm doing any back country activities.
  19. Good luck peeling them the fresher the egg the harder to peel!
  20. Quite common in Northern Italy I've had it a few times and considering what the beef is like in Italy it's the better alternative.
  21. I'm sorry for your loss, may you find a new "old' Friend to keep you company.
