  1. That's a valid point jjb, but we really don't want to let it go too far. We already can get summonses for moving violations captured by cameras, and stuff like that. Almost get strip searched boarding planes and entering government offices and landmarks. We are living in a completely different world, though. Most of us don't trust just every joe blow on the street either, why should we think government, law enforcement or anyone else should have complete trust in them? Will NEVER happen again. Those that think we are losing too many rights in this country can go ANYWHERE else in the world, and I can guarantee them that they will have even less rights wherever they would choose to go. Humanity has made this type of world for themselves, so it leaves us now with very few alternatives. Blasting off into space might be the only escape from it.
  2. I can see both sides of the argument here. It definitely feels like harassment and violations of our rights in so many ways, yet if we don't have anything to hide, it will just waste more of our time if we don't comply. The trooper or DEC officer has all the time to kill compared to us hunters who just want to get back home, so I think that's the biggest reason they get away with it in my opinion. Me and my uncle were pulled over one time back in the early 80's on the Taconic parkway. All vehicles that had hunters in it had to pull aside. We didn't have a deer that time, but the trooper wanted us to pull our freakin guns out of their cases to check if they were loaded. We just complied, but when I look back at it, it seemed like they were going out of their way to give hunters a hard time. And this was 30 years ago now, so it's not like these type of harassments are something new. That actually was the one and ONLY time we were ever asked to do anything like that. These days I rarely ever see deer checks stops.
  3. I suggest you guys take the Whitestone bridge then. Never ever saw a stop anywhere near it.
  4. Elmer, you sure have way more confidence in him than the rest of us. LOL
  5. Until Ants clarifies matters I am taking his ratio as 16 wounded for every 3 he actually kills.
  6. He of course would need to ask a DEC officer if it would be legal to discharge a rifle in a shotgun only area in order to kill a deer on the other side of the river in a rifle area. I would think he's good to go, since rifles are legal where the deer happens to be standing. LOL
  7. No need for baiting. Your .300 Weatherby can reach him on the other side of the Hudson.
  8. Actually I would say the buck isn't even dead. It was time for one of those electric probes to be placed you know where, to stimulate semen production, and the buck got a bit rowdy, so they had to temporarily put him to sleep. They let him sleep it off in the back of the pickup.
  9. And that's why some of us are against stupid rules like AR's. When we kill our spikes and forkhorns and then post pictures on forums, NO one will accuse us of killing them in a pen. LOL Of course some will accuse us of killing the dumbest deer in the woods, but hey, at least the bugger had his freedom during his 1.5 years of life. LOL
  10. Now how true is this?? I have one that I bought new in 1985 and another that I bought in 1998, so granted I haven't bought one in years now. But, the ones I've looked at in stores really don't look much worse to me than earlier ones? Nothing that's made anymore is given the extra touches as things made years ago. I don't think we will be going back to those days either. Functionally and accuracy wise, I don't think the new 700's will fail anyone.
  11. As you said in an earlier post here. "Maybe NY actually has it right for once and the other states are F'd up!" I completely agree with you here. Any state that would think a 5 year old is ready to hunt don't know their a$$ from their elbow. Some think that as long as someone is capable of pulling a trigger on a gun, they are ready for any and ALL of the worlds challenges. I have some news for these people, unfortunately.
  12. I did notice them, but I figured that's what you guys wear while hunting on those LI beaches?? Flip flops beat getting sand in your boots.
  13. Nice deer, congrats!! It's not everyone who can show us a good buck and their prized biceps all in the same picture!! LOL NYAntler will have it framed, for sure!
  14. I've been to Staten Island and it may be a bit more rural looking than the other boroughs, but in my mind its FAR from the ideal natural setting for animals like deer and turkey. Maybe birdlife, raccoons, skunks can blend in there, but deer and turkey are another matter. That's my view anyway.
  15. Honestly would that be a bad thing?? The environment is very unnatural for both the turkey and deer, so I don't think it would be a bad thing if they did.
  16. I'm sure there are some spots, but people have to realize that Staten Island is within NYC limits, and holding any sort of hunt would be a CIRCUS of the greatest magnitude. Any hunter who would want to subject himself to the media scrutiny along with everyone else eyeballing them is plum crazy in my opinion. You'd have some irate city people wanting to kill the hunters and drag them down the street. The media would make these people out to be heroes and saviors of the wild kingdom. If you guys want something like that, knock yourselves out! I won't be joining you.
  17. Yeah, and where would you set up to hunt them? On the roof of someone's garage? When you shoot one it would fall over and die next to some kids swing set in someone elses backyard. You'll have to knock on their door and ask them for permission to drag your deer out and down their paved driveway. I can see the horror on their faces over the blood stains you left behind already. I don't care how big the bucks are, I would not want to hunt in a scenario like that.
  18. AR's need to be implemented for deer/auto collisions. 3 Points to the side, or your car gets confiscated. Sorry fellas, but it's for the biological benefits of the herd..
  19. Not good enough! You will have to ask the deer to open it's mouth and say "ahh"' so you can look at the wear on his teeth for a more accurate age reading. LOL
  20. He said BARELY, and he is correct. Those who think that a 5 year old can be trusted to always make good decisions are the bad parents.
  21. I have hunted 180 private acres with only one other guy for years now. In the neighboring 300-400 acres there are maybe 4 other hunters hunting. At best 3 or 4 bucks get taken out of this entire area in a year. Even if those bucks taken were below AR minimums, how would AR's help this area?? Absolutely won't. It's a mountainous region with hardly any agriculture on neighboring fields, so all the AR rules in the world won't make this place hold more or bigger deer than it could naturally sustain.
  22. OK, I will surely take your word for it. He should then understand why others are very much against them. If the state and others say their is no biological reasons for them, the case should be closed once and for all. Saying that there are no biological reasons for them, and at the same time implementing them in even more areas of the state is as bizarre as it gets.
  23. Can someone please direct me to where I can find the smiley face holding up the BS flag for the above statement?? If you were so anti-mandated AR's you wouldn't have such an issue with people killing bucks less than 3 points to a side. In the scheme of things, it don't make one bit of difference what size the antlers happen to be on a buck when it gets gunned down by a hunter. The only people worried about it are those who want BIGGER antlers on the ones they gun down.
  24. Well, aren't you a lucky fella!! Come out where some of us others hunt, and I guarantee you that you WON'T see 9 bucks. If you see one, you'll be doing good, and if you want to kill a buck, you'd better put him down because it might be the last one you get to see. Some of you guys have absolutely NO clue what hunting is actually. If you are seeing bucks at every sitting, it don't take much to put one down, but it sure don't work out so nicely for very MANY hunters out there. As I said at the start, you guys should consider yourselves LUCKY, that you have deer filled areas like that to hunt. The rest of us have to HUNT, and HUNTING isn't just picking and choosing from a bunch of deer circling around you like you guys are lucky enough to be able to do.
  25. I actually think that the two clowns trying to get too close to him were even dumber. How close does one get before an animal feels cornered and needs to lash out? Would have served them right if they got their butts gored a bit.
