John is your bow a split limb or a one piece? If it is split get the limbsavers that go between the limbs, if its a one piece get the ones that stick on the inside of the limbs. This also reduces noise alot.

Tree Stands, traditional wooden ones on tree's of 2 or more?
Fairgame replied to TheHunter's topic in General Hunting
These are two stands we have at our place. -
Same here no more than 60 pounds. Arrow still passes completely through no problem.

Doc, you couldn't of said it any better. "hunting involves killing". Its not the only thing involved when we go hunting. That's the point I was trying to make. I apologize for making your blood boil.

Yes killing is part of hunting, But there is more to hunting than just killing or so I dont say it again harvesting of an animal. If time is spent out in the field and you let a four pointer walk it doesnt mean your not going to get anything. If that animal survives the season it means that next year you will probably see him as an older deer and possibly another four pointer also. Giving these deer an opportunity go grow a little older has changed where I hunt. And this is my opinion on where I hunt. I am seeing plenty of year and a half old bucks running around when before they werent around as they are now and having the opportunity to see a few nice racks every year. Anyone that hunts with me knows, I never put anyone down for shooting a small buck, I congradulate them on any deer they kill. The fact that these AR's were put into place in an area that needed it has only improved the hunting. This is not something I read in an article, this is my opinion and for me the bucks I have harvested in the last few years are proof to me that its working.

The whole Murphy's law thing happened to me last year. Shot my eight pointer on the third day of bow season, two weeks later had a bigger eight in front of me. I am still happy with the deer I got dont get me wrong.

Tree Stands, traditional wooden ones on tree's of 2 or more?
Fairgame replied to TheHunter's topic in General Hunting
Vipertech, I have three tree stands like that. They are strong and another good thing about them is that I could move them if I need to. Good stands if you are hunting on a new piece of land. -
Furman, How do the fawns pay for it? Please explain.

It is mainly private land by us. What I can tell you is that we have friends and family that own their own property in a non antler restricted zone but choose to hunt in our area.
-
Anyone under the age of 17 is allowed to shoot any size buck they please. It is not restricting young hunters. Thats the way it has been in the AR zones.

They are a blast to hunt. I hunt them here in California, season opens on Labor Day.

I am wrong on the killing comment cause it is what we all do when we hunt. The bsing thing is what got me going on page 15. I do put in alot of time hunting NY, and for me I would shoot a doe anytime rather than kill a small buck. Even if I dont have the opportunity to shoot a nice buck every year, it is nice to finally see them on a regular basis during the hunting season.

Doc, We could never get along when it comes to this so its no use arguing. I dont like when people think I'm bsing them when I tell it as it is in my area and how I hunt. I should just go out with a camera most of the time and I do, but I'm sure you also like the fact that I pay $350 dollars for all tags every year even if I dont use them. I would not stand behind AR's as much as I do if I didnt think it helped. For me statistics on a website or an article about how it is not working in other states dosent change how I feel about it cause I could only talk from experience in hunting these areas. From barely seeing any racked deer to seeing them consistently year after year after a couple of years these restrictions were implemented. I know when you see me post under this topic that I'm going to get an argument from you but it still cant change my experiences on the outcome of AR's where I hunt. Good Luck on your arguement in this topic

Waiting for next year is a long time for most people, and I would think most especially for the hunters who plant food plots, set up cameras, etc. all in order to kill that big deer they seem to be so obsessed with. I'd just like to see these guys explain to there hunting friends why they didn't kill a deer on the land they put so much time, money and effort in, when many of the friends got their deer with way less effort! BS'ing your way thru it can only get you so far in my honest opinion. Just because someone puts in food plots sets up trail cameras to TRY to increase their chances doesn't guarantee anything. What your forgetting is that its called hunting not killing.. I have posted it in the past that I live in California and own property in NY that I hunt on. I spend more time in the woods of NY than most hunters that live in NY. I set up trail cameras and everything else you probably think that every trophy hunter does. Most years I dont get anything, and that is by choice. I dont have to KILL in order to be happy with my hunting season. If killing is what you expect every year slaughter a cow. I'm not BSing anyone on what I write. I dont need to make anyone happy when I hunt except myself. I dont need to explain to anyone why I didnt get anything, but if someone asked all I have to say is that I chose not to shoot. not cause I didnt see anything. I could probably tag out in every season of the hunting season but I never do and its by choice. I think your bsing yourself If you think that shooting the first deer you see is hunting. In my eyes its killing.

In heavily hunted areas, does anyone have a better idea on how to let a year and a half old buck walk so that everyone hunting can judge the animal in front of them?. I am for AR's in my area cause is gives some of the year and a half old bucks a chance to survive. It has been better than having most of them killed off by the end of the season. With that said I have seen bigger bucks and older. I do not shoot any year and a half old bucks even if it is the only thing I see. I let the basket eight pointers walk cause I know there are bigger ones around. I am content with letting them walk and not getting anything for the entire hunting season. I would be happier shooting a doe with the bow than shooting a small buck. I know of at least fifteen guys in my area that do the same. Before the AR's were in our area none of us looked at it that way cause a year and a half old buck was probably the only buck you would see. Some of these animals need a chance to get older in order for us to see any older bucks. I'm not shooting monsters, but they are bigger than any deer that I and the other hunters I know have shot in the past since these restrictions came into play. I honestly wish it was four on one side in our area rather than 3 on one side. so that more deer would have an opportunity to survive.

Small food plots in the woods
Fairgame replied to Fairgame's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I may be flying in on saturday morning and going straight to my place upstate. Not sure until sometime on thursday whether or not I'm coming. If I do come I have 3 weekends in NY, and hopefully have enough time to attemp something inbetween everything else I have to do. -
Another thing is that alot of kids these days do not get to enjoy the outdoors. If I have kids reguardless if its a boy or girl I will do my best to expose them to the outdoors. My wife knows she has no say in that, its my passion. It would be up to me and the kids weather they are going to do it or not. How many hunters out there do not take their kids with them for one reason or another. Maybee the wife dosent like hunting, or they have xbox or wii. My wife dosent hunt be she understands my passion for the outdoors, God bless her, she NEVER comes between me and my hunting cause she knows how important it is to me. During the hunting season my wife is lucky to see me a total of ten days out of the 60 or so days cause I'm in NY most of the time at our place.
