  1. Been doing a lot of reading. What is recommended and the easiest thing to do is to start shooting from the dominate eye side. Damn!! I think I'm being punished...Since my left handed son was ~5 years old, I selfishly raised him to shoot right handed, since all of my guns are right handed and many will someday be his! He shoots all guns and even his bow, right handed! NOW, my right handed daughter comes along, and I find out she's left eye dominant, so now I gotta start buying her left handed guns! Oh great....
  2. Took my daugher out shooting her shotgun a couple of weeks ago, in preparation for the upcoming youth turkey season. Had her shooting ~20 yards. The gun was secured in a gun vice, so she had a steady rest. She shot 3x and the pattern of every shot was ~6" to the left of the turkey head/neck target. We went through her aiming again and she said she was doing everything I was telling her, which I believe, as she is deadly accurate with a scoped .22. I took a shot with her gun and shells and the pattern was perfectly centered on the turkey head/neck target, so I know it was NOT the gun or shells, but something she was doing. She shot ~12 more times, each time putting the shot pattern in the exact same spot, ~6" to the left (perfect up and down)! I was puzzled as all hell and was at a loss!! I ran into a guy today, that gave my daughter her hunters safety course. I told him the problem that she/we were having. He said it sounds like she must be left eye dominate, but is right handed. After listening to him, I came home and did some research. My daughter isn't home from school yet for me to test her, but from what I've read, it sure as hell sounds like that's the case! It sounds like the ~6" that she is off is common for right handed shooters with left eye dominance. I've read to use a patch over the left eye, while keeping the left eye open, but aiming with the right eye. Not sure how that would work out in the heat of the moment, when a gobbler is approaching, as I think putting a patch over the eye is about the last thing she will be thinking about! Then I also read to start shooting left handed, but of course, I just bought her a beauty of a custom Remington 870 for a right handed shooter! I would rather not put a red dot scope on the gun either, but.... Would like to hear how those with this problem have overcome it, specifically for shooting open sights on a shotgun?
  3. Stopped at Bass Pro a couple days ago. Shelves were just about bare of rifle ammo! There was a sign saying they were holding a few of the popular calibers (.22, .223, etc...) behind the counter and to inquire there. I did, but they only had 6 boxes of .223 FMJ's, nothing else left. The guy did say that ammo was coming in pretty regularly, but it was selling out quick, even though they have a 2 box limit/customer. Hoping to get my hands on some .22, .223, and 9mm's!!
  4. Sounds like an awesome season!! I'm sure the deer and turkeys appreciate your effort!! LOL
  5. Considering what they eat, they should be good eating, but I've just never been able to get up the nerve to try one! I guess if times got hard or I was hungry enough....
  6. That's what I was asking... how effective. Target loads sure as hell aren't my first choice, but it's good to know they aren't useless either! I keep hollowpoints loaded in the magazine, but if I run out of hollowpoints, and I only have target loads, then I'll let the bullets fly. Even if it just puts a hole(s) in someone. Holes in the heart, lungs, or head will do the trick, just not as quick as a hollow point. Anywhere else would certainly hurt, cause blood loss, and slow them down anyway! I have so many target loads (1,000+), so it's good to know that I can use them for back up, if needed. Just might need a couple extra holes... I plan on stocking up on some hollowpoints, when I can come across some more. Geez, they put zombies down all the time on "The Walking Dead" using a crossbow with just a field point through the head, so I'm thinking a 9mm target load should do the trick!
  7. Would 9mm target loads be of much value in a self defense situation (aka. the $hit hits the fan)? I have 1,000+ rounds that I bought when I first got my 9mm, but I don't shoot it no where near as much as I was thinking I would. Not sure if I should hang onto them, as they're better than nothing, or sell them and invest in some more appropriate ammo (hollow points/personal protection). OK, providing I can get my hands on any... These are the ones that I have for target shooting.
  8. Sure is a wide rack! Was his passenger side brow broken off or it just never formed?
  9. Everytime I hear of someone dunking them in hot water to pluck, I keep thinking, "Damn, that's gotta stink"!!
  10. I've always skinned my turkeys. I've never tried plucking. Is plucking as much of a hassle, as I've heard?
  11. WTH? The kid is doing nothing more than enjoying his birthday present and not hurting anyone! http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57576634/new-jersey-probing-response-to-boy-with-gun-photo/
  12. Very Nice!! Looks like someones gonna have an excitimg season!
  13. I hope the gang-bangers and drug dealers know they are on the "honor system" and can only put 7 bullets in their 10 round magazines!
  14. It's their breeding season now, in February and March. The males are on the move looking for some lovin', searching from den to den for females! They travel more, so more are hit along the roads now. They also spray more now too! Males fighting males for females, females spraying agressive males if they aren't ready for mating yet, females defending dens, etc...
  15. The best place that I've found morels is around crabapple apple trees. I've even found them in apple orchards!
  16. Thanks for the links! They sound like reputable dealers. It's tough to know what to expect, regardless of what the sites say though. I was one told that, "Regardless of what it says on paper, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it." I've certainly found that to be true...
  17. Has anyone dealt with buyers of old coins or have any advise on selling or finding a reputable buyer? I have a lot that are taking up a lot of room in my safe. I've seen ads from people in the newspaper that buy old coins and know there are old coin auctions, but I just don't want to be screwed over. Don't know of anyone that has sold old coins, so I can't ask for opinions on finding a reputable dealer/collector. Been doing some research, but there's just a lot of coins and a wide variety, so its a pain looking up each coin by date, mint marks, grading, etc... Would be nice to take to someone that I could trust, dump them out, have them look them over, and give me a fair price!
  18. Just wanted to do my homework now, so if they are legalized soon, I'll have a pretty good idea what I want. Geez, I'll need 3 (son, daughter, & myself)!! LOL
  19. Are there (or were there) minimum axle to axle width regs for crossbows in NY? I contacted a manufacturer to try to locate a certain model in my area, to put my hands on. He said that many shops in NY don't carry it, because it barely meets the minimum width regs. It's specs said 17.5", axle to axle. I don't recall seeing this regulation anywhere?
  20. I was thinking about a bird barrel for you. Have you heard or thought about the Hessney gun auctions in Geneva? http://hessney.com/auctions/ Might want to consider them. I see that they have one coming up this Saturday 3/23.The next one is on May 11th. I don't know if they put a complete updated list out, but as of now, they have 3 Remington barrels listed, but none of what you need. I sold a few guns through them. No problems at all. Might even be able to find a good deal on a shotgun?
  21. I remember the origional Camtrakkers were 35mm. They went for $400!! I wanted one soooo bad, but just couldn't justify the $$! Ended up learning how to build 35mm homebrews for ~$120. Made several for myself and friends. That was back in the day when we had a LOT of turkeys in my area. I remember on several occasions, having a flock of turkeys walk by, blowing through an ENTIRE roll of film within minutes!!! LOL Thankfully, the place where I always had the film developed had a policy, so that you only paid for the pics that you wanted to keep!
