  1. Saw a big truck in Victor earlier this week that had a couple back window decals that gave me a chuckle... "The government is NOT your baby daddy!!" "I'm on my way to work... I have millions of welfare recipients depending on me!!" Wish I would have gotten a pic, as they took up the whole back window!
  2. Is that considered "spotlighting"? Always enjoy your videos FieldArcher! I was surprised to see that you use one of those little handheld video cams! Considering the quality of your videos, I guess I expected to see one of those big clunky professional cams!
  3. You'll be surprised how quickly she bounces back! I think it's harder on the parents to go through! Tough to see your little one go through anything like that! When my daughter was 5, she needed to have 1/2 of her left lung removed. Talk about being devastated! I felt like it was the end of the world... Now, at 13, she runs track, plays soccer, lacrosse, and runs like a damn gazelle!! LOL Hasn't slowed her down or effected her life at all... other than improved it.
  4. I got one last night at 6:30pm for $49. Just checked this morning, NOW they're selling them for $89!!! WTH??
  5. I used elevator brackets http://www.gandermou...4-Pack&i=400878 , made things a lot easier for me. Put up on 16' 4x4's. Platform is 6'x8'. I put a pop up blind on top before season, then take it down right after. I strap it down. Made this a few years ago when the kids started hunting with me. Made things a lot more enjoyable and tolerable. The kids (OK, me too) could move around, stretch out, nap, or do whatever. I keep a small propane Buddy heater and a small propane single burner in there too for warming up coffee, soup, or anything else. It's nice to have a stand like this as an option for those rainy miserable days to have a little shelter. If I could do it over again, I would have only made it 12'. Just think things through and have a plan, before you start.
  6. Great story! Bet Gramps is smiling and the Savage is happy to be back at work again, providing food for the table!
  7. Good God!! What the hell do you feed those bucks of yours?
  8. Congrats! And to do it with your family's 30-30 to boot! Very nice! Be sure to wear a safety harness while in that climber, or any stand for that matter!
  9. Yeah, that's one of the reasons I was so sick about it being killed. Such an awesome buck, shot on a "drive"! Skill? Woodsmanship? I've been hunting (bow, gun, & ML) hard for this guy for 3 years, have several trailcam pics of him over the years, and watched him mature. God knows, I've lost a LOT of sleep over him too. After talking to the neighbor, several of us were sick when we got word that he had been killed, as he motivated all of us to get out of bed in the mornings to hunt. That outta make for an interesting magazine article or story to tell the guys, huh? "Came busting out of the drive and I shot him..." Congrats to the lucky hunter that got him though. That's a buck of a lifetime!
  10. No. They were hunting the guys property that organizes the gang. I guess it ran out of the drive, one guy shot it and broke its front leg, then it ran to another guy, who killed it. After talking to the neighbor, I learned how many of us in the area had trailcam pics of him, but kept it to ourselves of course . This buck covered some serious ground!
  11. I just spoke to my neighbor. The guy in the pic and the guy who is reported to have shot it (Mike Kaplan), isn't correct. This is the second pic that I've seen, with 2 different guys with the buck. The guy that killed the buck is actually from Penfield and was in the area hunting with a gang that was making drives. The buck was killed on a drive...
  12. That sure does stink up the house, no matter what! Best thing you can do, is find a way to do it outside.
  13. I thought about giving it a try this fall myself. I think they have additional regs that they go by. Might want to give them a call ahead of time and ask. I read somewhere last year that they require you to wear XXXX amount of "solid" blaze orange. Blaze orange camo won't do?
  14. Yikes! Glad you weren't hurt! Yeah, I just don't understand some guys and their way of thinking! I always shake my hang-ons, before stepping onto them, for this very reason! If its an evening hunt, I always look at the ratchet straps to make sure they are still in the locked position as well. Call me paranoid, but I've had one treestand fall already, and sure don't want to experience another!
  15. Sorry guys, I haven't noticed this post still kickin'. This is the buck in the video. It sucks knowing this awesome buck isn't out there lurking around "somewhere" or haunting me in my dreams anymore. Hunted him for 3 years, many many hours in the stand! Went out 57x just this year alone, between bow and the 1st week of gun, hoping we would cross paths. Haven't been out since I heard he was killed. (Surgery in a couple of weeks, so I've been concentrating on preparing to be laid up for a few months...) My hats off to Mike for sealing the deal and keeping his composure after seeing that rack coming towards him!! That buck is a trophy of a lifetime! BTW, I don't know any details or how far away he was killed from where I got the pics and video.
  16. It's him.... been out licking my wounds since I heard he was killed.
  17. Sorry ctjaeger - Couldn't wait for a response any longer. Everything is now SOLD. Feel free to lock up...
  18. No sightings at all and only got him on trailcams 2x all year! He's a smart old boy, so I think he'll make it through season. I would be sick if someone just lucked onto him, as hard as I've been hunting him this year! Always worried about him getting shot in a neighbors "drive" or something! Shutter to think about him going down that way! So far, I don't think any neighbors have been putting on any drives.... I'd like to keep it that way too!
  19. Man, what a great buck! He better be proud of that! I "think" he's hooked now!
  20. At least he's still alive! Just cross your fingers he stays where he is and lays low for a few weeks! Good thing he wasn't showing interest in the does, as they might get him in trouble!
