If you bring a plank of wood, you can slide/pull the deer up into the gator bed without too much fuss also. had to do this into my Subaru by myself with a slob I shot a few seasons back.

Sounds like this private 'reserves' may indeed be a factor in the deer population bouncing back after these last couple of winters

I think people are going to have to face up to the fact that if they continue to try and fill all their tags this year, 2016 will go down on record as one of the worst hunting years to date. I have had a niggling feeling that I really should not go after that second buck this year, and this after an already self imposed prohibition on taking doe, who's numbers in my area are truly pitiful this year. I'm doing my part to address the obvious effects of two hard winters. Hopefully others will follow suit. It's a no brainer

While doe numbers are way down in my part of 9H, I did see more young bucks this year than usual. This however is due in part to better stand placement this year. Gun has been very deflated in terms of shots heard and my cameras are not picking up the numbers these last 3 weeks. Just getting the same 1 yr old buck everyone once in a while.Day time sightings walking about are almost non existent now. I saw a lot of orange blobs in the woods driving about on the opening morning tho.

Got out a little late, about 8:30ish. Had the butt end of a buck on cam, walking by my stand at 7:40 am. Nice to see one still on he's feet, but he didn't look like the animal I am after. The Big 10 hasn't shown on cam since the 3rd.

Maybe the bow hunters got nervous about their season and cleaned up, as per the orders from on high? (sarc)

I rarely hunt stand during gun. It's better to be mobile and able to take advantage of deer being pushed. I have been able to put myself in the path of deer shot at and bumped by neighbors. Patterns change too and my bow stand sites become ghost trails.

We have four roaming cats. None have yet dragged a deer home from the woods. I think your good.

Must be that Deer over-population problem the DEC likes to mention.

well done. I am still in two minds about taking a second deer. Freezer is almost full already and deer numbers seem to have taken a hit in our area.

I hunt Bow and Gun. I find that deer can be seen in gun after the opener. You need to hunt a few weekdays and observe what are often very consistent deer movement patterns in the evenings. This is how I got my last years Buck. I figured out that deer where often passing through a section of woods at almost the same time each afternoon. I went out, sat inside some hemlocks, and 10 minutes later my buck came through right on time. You have to come down from the trees though and move around. Forget stand hunting during gun. It is a waste of time.
