  1. we have all walked within feet of bedded deer without them stirring and never knew they were there when walking slowly but non stop right NOW try this walk steadily thru the woods hunting as you go , walk about 100 yds then turn around and go back the way you just came briskly and be on the ready , they are smart enough to let you walk by once BUT when you come back purposefully they spook if you past one in the rough he wont let it happen twice cause have broken the pattern
  2. I have a strange spin on this subject,I lived in the boonies most of my life around the deer woods and I feel that bucks {over 11/2 yrs old} are two different animals you can shoot a doe anytime you want. I think that somehow bucks seem to know if they are seen they are dead dont ask me how but if you dont see any good shooter bucks its not because they are not there its because they have been patterning you. smart bucks dont even use the same trails others use they use the lesser trails that may go un noticed I have 200 acres at my disposal with all my neighbors owning large tracts of land it seems those big woods deer are more comfortable the majority of times that i put trail cams on the almost unnoticeable trails thats when i get pics of the big boys and its ALWAYS late night. I have put in some very serious food plots and a couple of feeders with cameras and they still dont come in but i get pics on the trails going to the plots or in the plots usually after midnights I just dont know thats why we like the challenge of hunting
  3. I was speaking to a buddy today about his hunting trip and he told me of a commonly occurring incident where a hunter is on stand and a nice eight point buck walks into range so my friend pops it, it hits the ground dead but as it happens another hunter gut shot it,and was trailing it , my friend graciously gave the buck to the friend who gut shot it BUT In his heart he confided to me that he felt it should be his. Its my opinion that there is a unwritten custom / rule that if a wounded deer has wondered into the sights of another hunter who shoots and kills the deer it is the property of the man who kills it.What is the thoughts and past experiences of you guys??? I think my friend who killed the deer NOT the friend who gut shot it should get the deer but he did the right thing no matter how painful what do ya think thanks in advance
  4. turkey feathers, one of the best photos of a "mystery creature " was taken in pa by a trail camera. The non believers say its a bear , I say to them go get a GOOD LOOK at a bear one of my neighbors in 3k took in a orphaned bear cub 3-4 years ago and I have been around that bear hundreds of times , so Its my opinion maybe naive ,but the creature in the pa picture is NO WAY a bear dont know what it is but I know what it not sorry . everything 270 sez is spot on
  5. hell of a point rob,oh well, I still would like to see one
  6. sorrry BUT as crazy as it seems remember the mountain gorilla was only discovered in 1902
  7. hey doc,I hear ya, Im thinking my hunting days are numbered rather than put up with bs I have chosen to hunt by myself. Saturday afternoon I tripped and fell hard twice and hurt both shoulders , I laughed my butt off because I realized Im getting very good at landing while protecting my melon and rifle.I have a bad case of drop foot and wear a leg brace. I lost my hunting partner because I would not let him shoot a bear that he wanted to bait in with a arrow. He never shot a bow before except for a few times in his back yard and never in a hunting situation . I dont believe that baiting garbage and wounding any animal. do your homework and put in your time and you will know where to find a bear so he had a hissy fit and stopped talking to me,so rather than have someone tell me what do do on my property Id rather break my skull so I feel your pain. I hate to just stop maybe I will just build a permanent box blind I a proven spot and call it a lifetime of hunting I know the trick to still hunting is moving slow but falling down is noisy I hear the deer laughing you and i have some thinking to do. me im, not going down easy If my old lady knew I fell it would be game over since It happens a lot good luck to you, what do ya think PS 2017 total of 5 hrs in woods got to do somthing
  8. does anyone know if the father died of the gun shot or did the son field dress dad after the little accident
  9. Hello 10 point no I have never just set one up and hunted the same day but if set up in front of the proper background and matching foliage on and around the blind it will work what the hell good luck my blind has been up since the beginning of oct
  10. if you decide to get one make sure you buy a good one! otherwise if you buy a POS you wiil not enjoy the experience and maybe ruin your chances to open another hunting chapter . were does it say you have to freeze your balls off, get wet be uncomfortable and want to go back to camp early besides if you spend the extra money for a good one and dont care for it you can always sell it put a mister heater, a comfortable chair, a backpack full of supplies and you can sit all day long because your comfortable. Mine is a field and stream brand no complaints it is high enough that I can stand up and stretch. I throw some landscaping burlap over and around it and cover it with cut up branches , dead ferns and best of all half a bale of hay the burlap gives you someplace to stick sticks and branches etc DO IT
  11. hey fletch, I have used a larger pop up blind wit just the rear windows closed with the side and front windows wide open with the mister heater for two seasons I WOULD NOT HUNT FROM A STAND AGAIN WITH OUT IT last year I had two does come within 4 ft from my side windows so close I was watching her belly going in an out as they were breathing !!!!! a nice six walked by with in 10 ft all deer I let pass, but they NEVER GOT WIND OF ME as for the heater it was a lot better than great jus bring some extra fuel canisters they are easy to light odorless and they put out the heat your son will love it good luck
  12. hello guys , as gun season approaches I start to pre think my hunts, which leads me to deer sents.MY go to sent lure has always been buck stop 200 proof most years It was like buying a buck. Out of curiosity Im wondering what the consensus is??? any one still use tinks #69 thanks
  13. well ford, I just got back from monticello in 3k , hunted 4 days saw 4 does and a big spike. Yes I sort of regret passing on the 6 but I would like to think of myself as a, more selective hunter did not work out this year lol I like the game, not the meat I promised myself I am gonna work on my poor still hunting skills, I feel with the severe lack of hunters to move them and the warm weather still hunting will more important than ever after opening day. And all and all YES Im big time glad I was talked Into going
  14. hey ford your reading my mind , oh well I always try to up the game , may have been a bad Idea
