  1. It does sound a little unusual. But what kind of hillside are you talking about? Slight or steep grade? I would be worried about runoff from a storm. Can you get a tiller there etc? Oh yeah and is this out in the open or more or less in the woods for sun exposure? Pic would help.
  2. My brother, a friend and myself were bow-hunting in a basement. Seems some ends of it were open to the outside and deer used it as a path. It was almost like a labyrinth but with hiding spots, staircases and ceilings with creepy vines etc. The deer knew how to sneek through. Our buddy got two bucks, I dropped one arrow, took a shot at another but it was low and the noc fell off, the noc end was split. ( ironic because that actually did happen one year ) So my brother handed me his bow and I nailed a buck with these moose looking antlers. Their bows - risers were hollow like chocolate rabbits.
  3. With a bit of work you could turn that into a nice secret spot / plot. Clear it out a little, get a rear-tine tiller back there, check the soil. From the looks of it there's a decent amount of sunshine. And one or two climber trees.
  4. Wonder if he could go for a chili dog?
  5. Well lets hope mother nature cooperates and it rains in the next day or so. Plot & trails planted. I may have over seeded the plot just a tad but I'm trying to make up for what seeds don't take or birds might eat. The hand operated spreader worked great, then I used the back side of a leaf rake to scratch over. Then I looked over two more sections of old trails about 20 yards each that could make decent additions, perhaps next year. Tell you what minus the tiller it's still a fair amount of work with hand tools.
  6. Try Lowes or HomeDepot. I would imagine any place that sells small trailers would have them.
  7. Ahh the good old days of Squirrel hunting. It takes me back, every great once in a while I pick up the 25mn and take a walk. After I took up archery though, small game hunting time has taken something of a back burner. Or just to clearing out the rats a bit around the stands.
  8. Does look like a nice spot. Mid-late July sounds right since I wouldn't want to plant too early. Or have this dry spell burn out the seeds. What I think is not taken into account is the 3-week difference in zones.
  9. I think the whitish color comes from it having dried out. But it looks fairly fresh. Ghost Yote :-\
  10. It was a few years ago but I once looked into the conversion barrel for the 500, as it would also fit the Mav88. If memory serves - you could not remove the breech plug.
  11. Forgot to mention Sierra Blitzking 70gr. Combined with h-318 makes for one slammin accurate reload.

  13. Well I have all 3 spots tilled up, and new respect for the work it takes to get even small plots cleared. Rented Frankin-tiller, 8 hp rear tine. That thing has some balls. 40 minutes each way just to get it from camp down the trail to the job, I kept telling myself it'll be worth it. A few more days of sun without rain so I didn't plant and it's still early July. Hopefully in about 2 weeks I'll be back up there forcast providing.
  14. Welcome, there was a place near Williamson called the Appletown Gun Shop. Bought my 700 there, is it still open?
  15. I just reload for my .243 for now. Keeping it simple because I rent. Equipment includes some Lee (hand-press, dies, auto-prime, tools), some rcbs dies & tools, an electric scale. I get alot of life from brass neck sizing but track the # of loads and ditch after a set # of times. I don't find a need for any extreem loads either. The full size rcbs dies for new / once fired work well though.
  16. Holy clearing! Lots of work, hope it pays off. In that 1st pic, don't know what's growing there but I have a few patches of the same stuff on my lease, in and around old trails just like that. I figgure if that grows then with 4-5 hours of sun something productive can too. Providing your not using the trail for access that is. What are you planning in the main plot, a mix?
  17. Switched phones so I could get coverage at camp, I better get coverage now, the whole transfer of service was a pia. I'll settle for 1-2 bars even. I don't intend to 'text' while hunting or use it as a distraction. But for unplanned emergencies, a quick note or memo, back-up alarm. Got to get the local sheriff & dec O #'s just in case. Has a camera, I don't think I'll have tresspasser problems but just in case I do, they won't get quarter or slack either.
  18. Thanks! And yes I tend to browse in page view-rotated monitor. Headed up there this weekend with an 8hp rear tine tiller. Bought a new spreader to for the following week, because the axel finally rusted out and dropped a wheel on the old one. I think the handheld shoulder strap deal will work out better for a smaller plot. I'm going to try Forage Oats for the main spot.
  19. I see Turkey picking corn out of fresh manuer all the time. Then the usuall seeds, grasses, insects. Some of you eat at McDonnalds. Whats worse? :-X No racoon or possum for me. Groundhog maybe.
  20. Although I'd like to one day have the equipment to do my own arrows, about the only maintenance I do with my bow is wax the string, keep it clean, adjust the sight if needed, & minor jazz like that.
