1 full size (long) squash or zucchini. 2 lbs. ground venison Grated cheese Aluminum foil Take the zucchini/squash cut in half lengthwise. Hollow out the seeds. Pre-cook aprox 20-30 minutes till tender. Place halfs in cookie sheet / grate or something like that. Support each half with folded/crumbled foil so they are somewhat level. Fill hollows with ground venison to about 4/5ths. Top with grated cheese. Finish cooking till cheese is done - lightly browned. Remember ground venison browns fairly quick. You can precook / fry the venison just till browned if you like depending on how shallow the hollow is. That way you can add other nonsence to the mix. I've done these in the oven or over a campfire.

I would agree with that. I am sticking with Muzzys this year. I know mech's have come a long way but I like fixed heads.

Amen to that.

I've redone the Pathfinderfishandgame.com website. We have the Archery tune-up starting 8-18 among other events & raffles usually listed on the Calendar. Just about anything Members & Guests want to know about the club should be there or will be soon enough. I've also posted a Season Gallery in breif that might be handy for this Fall - Winter. http://pathfinderfishandgame.com

Cool old Photo. Pattern on the jacket looks alot like ultimatecamo. Trying to remember, my 11pnt. from 06 weighed at the dec checkpoint was about 190.

I have two 2-D McKenzie decoys, 1 feeding doe & a buck. Not sure they were a wiser buy. I'm going to try them again this year but more then once I've had them spotted and deer go out of their way to avoid them. Now that I mention it they arn't that durrable either. They have a tendancy to become very brittle on the fold, fixed that with some camo cloth tape. The plastic clips that hold them for display slide off easily.

Two more stands on the lease, one more to go. Plus a set of sticks and a hang on for last day or so [got to hang a stand there] in reserve. Other spots I eyeballed are climbable. Saying that like it's a final plan ..

Here's the thing, I got a lease in the NZ so I could camp up & Bow hunt last week of Sept. & finally try to fill an unused tag from last year. After that with some luck fill another tag before SZ opens. And that's all there is to it.

Tree Stands, traditional wooden ones on tree's of 2 or more?
Fantail replied to TheHunter's topic in General Hunting
I have two stands I built from scrap 2x4' & 4x4's. The platforms are frames about 24" x 32", with 2x4 runners. I brace the platforms with 4x4's at a slight angle like a ladder stand. The ladder part is actually 2 4x4's sandwiched at the ends by 12" 2x4's and lag bolts. So it's roughly 16' off the ground. I use screw in steps on the 4x4's up to the platfrom. And a concrete post holder on the ground. Up top some screw in hooks and a chain, could use a ratchet to I suppose. No nails, put them all together with an 18v screw gun. And a ratchet for the lags. -
Like others have said it can be done but it makes for difficult shooting with all the extra layers. Take a day when it's not super chilly maybe. Here's the other problem; noisy stands in sub-zero weather. I love Bow hunting don't get me wrong, but days like that a muzzleloader and pounding a little ground can pay off.

This probably won't help much but if your in good shape and don't mind wearing out a good set of boots, know how to read a compass etc., scout it. And then find out where the main paths are and see if there's any decent spots a good 100+ yards off them. If your talking 2k+ acres you might find a spot or two. Maybe not for bear but who knows. In my younger days I spent tons of time scouting, managed to find a few decent spots in a nice WMA. That eventually lead to my best deer yet and some good Turkey hunting. These days - lets just say you younger guys can have all those steep hillside spots

Fields growing pretty good!
Fantail replied to burmjohn's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Well I'm thinking the other way around, hitting trails and travel routes for Bow season. Especially with a field that size where you can cover distance with a rifle. -

man that probably has you fired up! how bad is it when you spend more time looking at possible stand trees in the background then whats in the pic itself. -
I've heard good things about the Sawyer products. Given chinamart seems to not be stocking permathin much anymore it might be worth looking into. Thermacells do work against skeeters and seem to be affective against small black flies. I just don't care for how much it is for the refills. The deer flies seem to be unaffected anyway.

Ex 'Idol' Star Kristy Lee Cook Scores a Hunting Reality Show

PETA Takes Aim at Kristy Lee Cook's Hunting Show, And She Fires Back Good for her. -
Just the other day I started shooting a few new Radial X Weave arrows I picked up - they fly great btw. But even in the back yard if the wind is nill it won't be long before the skeeters zone in. I'll practice with a headnet on at times but for just a few shots I usually skip that.

For certain clowns who can't seem to phantom what an observation about the x-bow is; The truth is I could care less if they become legal or not. My point is I'm quite sure I wouldn't waist money on such a device.

Started yeah, finished no. Damn skeeters & no wind. I think two more weekends not rushing it should do it, with some extra lane work etc.

I shoot a PSE LiteSpeed, NRG cam, ata is only 30 3/4". Good shooting Bow.

Fox news source First off, I can't stand shows like 'Idol' and the likes of the screaming idiots in the audience. But I thought this might be an interesting read before it disapears from the headline roll. "American Idol" introduced Kristy Lee Cook to America. Now the country singer is hoping that hunting will make her an American household name. This weekend, Cook debuted her new reality series, "Goin’ Country" on cable network Versus, where cameras chronicle the singer’s struggle to get a record deal while also following her on a series of hunting expeditions across the country. It’s the classic American story of a girl, her guitar, and her gun. She’s only been hunting for six years, but Cook already has an eagle eye. Just last month she took down a black bear that had been getting into mischief in her horse barn in Eagle Point, Oregon. “That bear had been causing trouble for five nights, eating grain and spooking my horses. He was making a mess of the whole barn,” Cook said. “One night I was walking in the house and I saw something standing in the door of my barn and I got him in one shot.” Cook’s weapon of choice is as Browning 270 Winchester short magazine rifle. “It’s my trusty rifle and I use it for as much hunting and animals as I can take down,” Cook told Fox411. “It’s one shot, one kill.” It was the country singer’s decision to wear a Browning hat while competing on "American Idol" that inspired the firearms company to sign on as a sponsor of the hunting show. “I just wore the hat because I liked it,” Cook says. “But Browning saw it and they were so excited I was wearing their logo they saw it as an opportunity.” Each one of Cook’s eight-episode series on the sporting network Versus will feature a different kind of hunt; Wisconsin for Cook’s first black buck hunt, Kansas for a pheasant hunt and Missouri for a difficult turkey hunt. Along the way Cook will be joined by family, friends and celebrity guests, including former "Idol" contestant Blake Lewis, grammy-nominated artist Jake Owen and country music star Aaron Tippin. “I’m hoping that people will see the hunts as a chance to hang with family and friends and share an experience. It’s so much fun in the outdoors and when you harvest something for the meat it really means much more than just going out to the grocery store and buying it,” Cook, a big organic food nut, told Fox 411. Since hearing about her show, plenty of fans have confronted Cook about their opposition to the killing of animals for sport. She greets their attacks with the pragmatism of a hunter. “I never used to like killing animals until I got out and experienced it. It’s the food chain. Animals are here for us to eat. In my family we grew up without a lot of money so I take all this meat home and anything that’s left we give to homeless shelters or orphanages so all the meat is going somewhere and I get to feed all these people,” Cook says. “Plus, now I know if anything were to happen in this world I know I would be ok because I can shoot my own animals,” she laughed to Fox 411. Opponents of hunting may still be interested to watch Cook try to secure a country record deal. Following her run on the seventh season of "Idol," where Cook was the seventh finalist, she signed with Arista Nashville and 19 Recordings and in 2008 released her first album, "Why Wait." Later that year Cook and the label parted ways. “I think it looks good for getting another deal,” Cook says. “It’s a work in progress and I am working really hard on it. I have a great feeling about this and this show is giving me the best of both worlds. I love my music. I’m fighting for my music career and we’re working on that and hunting season is coming up so I’m taking a lot of people out hunting. Both things take the same instincts.”

Well, the Oats are 3-5" already. And the NZ opener is just under 2 months. I can chew the cost of another bag but renting the rear tine is a slight stab.

I was at AJ's this weekend, needed to pick up more arrows, got a deal on a doz Radial X Weaves. Anyway they had a fancy X-bow there, it had a crank, sight, bi-pod, looked like quite the contraption. Another guy had one and they were demonstrationg them. 40 yards & an 80 yard 3-d target. 1st off, nobody could hit the 80 yard target. Maybe someone finally did but after a 1/2 hour I was bored. Now these things were scoped, I figgured they would smoke the 40 yard target. No sir, well they hit it but as far as groups go I could do just as good or better with my Bow. And I demonstrated that. Also got to observe them loading these things; the crank loader - my Jeep makes less noise. One guy said you can get a quiet crank, sure buddy - and it comes with a loud crank beacuse? The other one had a pull-rope of some sort for loading. That didn't seem so bad but the release noise was terrible. Two guys mentioned long trigger travel. Well the guys that spent what 5-600 or more each on them probably don't like me but I don't care. I was not impressed with either one. It was like they were trying to tote the latest and greatest thing but I witnessed two of the loudest and bulky devices some think they can hunt with. I personally don't see what the big deal is and what people are so excited about.

Well I bought my Bow at AJ's so you could say I support a local shop. But it would be a drive for minor maintenance, where a tech or two I know are more local elsewhere.

Great. That'll make a 120$ mistake then. Suppose I can rent a tiller again and replant. But I might as well wait and see if anything is feeding on them till Sept. By our area I'm presuming your somewhere NZ.
