Got to agree with that. Greetings NYRturkeycall, I shoot #55 & 100gr heads and look forward to every Bow season. Archery is a heck of a thing to get into. You'll probably get to know some good shooters along the way while getting to know the Bow you choose. The practice is enjoyable & the hunting can be up close. Good luck & enjoy the journey.

Chef, if you haven't decided yet check into Magnus Stingers / Buzzcuts. They have been my 100 gr. go to for years now.

2019-2020 HuntingNY Predator Kills Thread
Fantail replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
I'm not a predator hunter, not really. But a target of opportunity even if it means burning a deer hunt to help out the deer, turkeys, etc., well I'm in. About 7:30 Sunday morning up in my back corner stand this yote starts making his way through a nice path I made for the deer. Remington 783 .243, done. No more fawns for this hoover. -
Cdbing, don't cut yourself short. I'd bet the old hoyt could hold it's own in its day. Good shooting. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Been a little while since I was on the site. I moved two ladder stands this year, set up another in a whole new spot close to a swamp. Some of the hardware are those "D" snap links which can be noisy. I used some reg dull electrical tape and just went around each one two - three times so they don't clank or make noise. Got a squeaky shooting bar - rail on your ladder stand, use a dab or chap stick on the posts to quiet those puppies down. Cutting shooting lanes and it's a one man show - take some orange contractor tape or the trail marker tape and wrap straps in the stand at eye level, 1 sitting down & the other standing. Keep some leveling shims or even cedar shingles around as all stands tend to settle. Good luck & keep safe.

Most hunts I'm alone. Although I do enjoy calling in Turkey for another now and then.

One of the interesting things I remember when I had the property logged, was people fearing how the activity would spook off the deer. I lost the pic's but one trail cam revealed the skidder passing by in the day and deer passing by at night, less than 12 hrs apart. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

If you plan on some soil improvement instead of bagged fertilizer, yes I know it's easy to spread, I recommend manure. Then till it over. Good luck. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

G-man those were nice trees. Must have been a heartbreaker to see them get infected. -
2018 fall Chestnut tree update

The oldest ones were planted this year, they were just from 5 gal instead of 3 gal planters like the ones that recovered from shoot. Those were planted about 2 years ago. -

They will need a stratification period. About 3 months in your fridge or cold garage perhaps should do it, in a bag or sealed plastic container with moist peat moss or equal medium. After that any good ones should sprout. If they're a year old, I don't know half cold be moldy inside already. Then again what's there to loose. Check the container once in a while if you see mold clumps on any those are bad. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -
Good Luck & good hunting. Lets keep our heads straight & be safe.

Few years ago had the property logged, and that was a good healthy choice for the place. It opened up allot and the undergrowth like others said took off. It also provided some plot, stand and tree planting opportunities that I'm trying to take advantage of.

Few years ago I began a project to see if hybrid American Chestnut trees would fair well on the property. Located in 4b growing zone, 6k ny dec. The following year got off to a rocky start as the heavy snow took it's toll on the young trees. Well, these dunstans would come back from shoot growth. If they wouldn't give up neither would I. Here's a view on the progress / update. There's some stand, plot, cam pics in as well. 2018 Fall Chestnut Update aprox 7.5 min. Can't seem to embed to video, hope the link will suffice.

Wild Berry Bushes
Fantail replied to landtracdeerhunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Found out what one of my blueberry problems was, about a half dozen were a species that does not do well in zone 5 or lower. Go figure they were from tractor supply in Pulaski. -
I think brush blinds are better in some ways, natural camouflage for example. One less thing to carry, if it's iffy weather will have an umbrella anyway. You can burn some time setting & fixing them up though. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Having a similar issue with a brassica radish mix plot. Patches of good growth and bare spots. Considering the small seed I'm thinking they got to deep. So next weekend I guess hit a few spots with some jazz & a rake. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

This reminds me of the entrance to Gander. Up in the raft timber above the doors they had lots of spikes to detur birds. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Planted a few currant variety last year as an expirament, they seem to be doing ok. It's blueberrys I'm having trouble with for some reason. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk -

I have a few planted, as an expirament of sorts. The ones I got from T/S were small and should have spent time in 3gal buckets first. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
