Taconic Hereford is only about 15-20 minutes from me, the portion off of Rt 82. I might have to give it a look.

I have checked out depot hill in Beekman and that is about it. I have always gone a bit south to 3N and hunted Ninham, California hill, fahnstock, and richardsville.

Dom what state lands would you say are worth heading out to? I would love some pointers from more experienced hunters. Maybe we can meet up.

I am fairly new to hunting also, been hunting for a few years but don't get out a whole lot. This year I have been out with my crossbow several times already though. I live in dutchess but have been hunting with my crossbow on a friends la d in Putnam. When shotgun opens I will have to hunt state land. Can't teach you too much because I am still learning but perhaps we can team up.

I will try to post a picture later this evening. I do have a safety harness that was given to me, it is one that came with a different tree stand. I have been looking online for a better one but as of now I haven't decided on one. Any recommendations?

Thanks guys! Still wondering about the climbing aid...is the strap on the aid to sit on while climbing? The stand itself has a flat metal strap that wraps around the trunk of the tree.

Hey guys and girls. I have never hunted from a tree stand but today I was given an older loggy bayou climber. The stand is solid, with no rust and all parts included and also in good shape. The stand has the climbing aid. My question is how exactly is the climbing aid used? There is a strap that looks like it could be used to sit in and them just lift knees up or it could be used to go behind my back to keep me from falling as I climb. Anyone have instructions or advice? And for those out there that will say I shouldn't be trying to figure the stand out at this point in the year, I will not be using the stand until I am comfortable using it.

Depending on the specs on the bow I would be very interested.

My suggestion is go someplace and see what suits you best. At a place like Dicks you should be able to handle and possibly shoot a few crossbows. What feels right for me may not be right for you. Ten point/women ridge and Barnett are in my opinion good manufacturers to look into.

I think the OP was asking about other camps rules. Didn't seem to be a complaint, at least that's not how I took it.

Can the standard Muzzy 3 blade, 100 grain be used with a crossbow? I have a few sitting around, brand new, and would love to but then to use.

I was told to mail back one set with a note explaining everything. I was given the tag numbers for the valid set so I can be sure to mail the correct set back. Glad I called, I would have hated to tag a dear with the invalid tag and than lose it to DEC. I am just astounded that I was told that what I was reporting to them wasn't possible. I mean, I was looking at the tags.

This year ordering my tags online was an even bigger pain in the neck than last year. I signed in and selected my DMPs, got my turkey tags and the site reloaded. This happened three more times after that. When I finally was able to get the order submitted I assumed everything was all set. Yesterday I got my envelope from DEC in the mail and when I opened it I immediately realized there was a problem. Inside the envelope there was two full sets of tags, two back tags, two licenses. All the doc numbers on the tags were different but the backbtags and license were obviously identical, my ID number on them. I called DEC this morning and was told that this situation was not possible and that they only sent out one set to me. I had to actually start reading them the different tag numbers to get them to beleive me. Finally I got a supervisor on the phone who told me which set of tags was valid and what to do with the other set. My question is, what would everyone else have done? Keep both sets and use all the tags in hope DEC didnt pick up on it?
