  1. Geno, good luck, I seen in another post you shot at a 8 ponter, any luck with blood of finding? Is Karp out today? I went rabbit hunting LI, yesterday, was like a ghost town.
  2. Hey guys , I know most people deer hunting on opening day for NY, but I went rabbit hunting. Dogs did well, we ran a total of 7 rabbits, and 3 cock phesants. I ended up harvesting 2 rabbits, missed anothe 2 which holed up, 2 crossed a road to a no hunt area, and 1 the dogs either lost or holed up, Started at about 9am and left for home at 1:30, so was pretty action packed Here are some videos Miss # 1 with PUPE ,SALLY,Bella Miss #2 Rabbit #1 Sally Guarding rabbit 1 thanks for viewing www.bellmorekennels.com
  3. Paula, he should grow out of it, just try to keep him away, not sure if you have a shock collar with tone or sound only, but would be a great way to get his attention. Also, I would work with him on coming to you , so when you see him heading towards the truck he honors your call. Get a whistle, use in your yard, walk away from him, blow the whistle and tell him to come to you, when does alot praise and a treat, snausages are a favorite. After a while he will associate that whistle with coming in to you for a treat. so when you see him heading to the truck, blow the whistle,he should come right back to you. I have trained alot dogs this way, I do not use a whistle, but comands with a deep voice. Yous may not be able to do that if you have high pitch voice. Good luck, contact me anytime with questions, besides having dogs for 20 years, I have trained alot different breeds, as I am a certified trainer as a hobby.
  4. Paula, alot of dogs will automatically go for the truck when they see it, if he is young should grow out of it. I would park where hard for him to see, and maybe work with a shock collar for this. Did you purchase him as a pup or broke dog? bellmorekennels
  5. Dave, I have a swiss hound, she is about 60#, but on the island the briars are so thick, hard for her to get into some spots. A lab would be able to flush a rabbit out, the difference is the beagles pursue the rabbit, even after it has been jumped or flushed, they chase the rabbit in a general circle back to the hunter. But you could give it a try, you most likely will be able to shot at a few, just make sure your dog is not gun shy, as you will most likely be shooting next to the dog, some dogs will bolt when startled. bellmorekennels
  6. You can get the pup used to handling and the outdoors by taking for a walk in the woods, but would be careful as the pup does not have rabies shot yet, plus you will have to decide what you want to use for tick prevention. Also would invest in either a tame rabbit or trap a live rabbit, and show to the pup, and eventually let the rabbit go in an enlcosed area so the pup can chase it . It is a long road to get a pup started, I have a contact that does start beagle pups, but usually not until they are 5 months old. If you are serious on the pup become a hunter, i have links to rabbit hunting sites I belong to, that would be great for you to join and ask questions, as geared for rabbit hunters and beagle owners. Let me know, glad to help anyway I can. bellmorekennels
  7. Man ,I thought I had problems hunting on Long Island. Truth be told, I would think somebody driving around at 2 am , spotlighting a deer in my front yard would be upto no good, but I do understand that not everybody is out to poach. To me it is not worth the fine and loosing my hunting license, but to some people, it is the easy way out. Everybody has their own opinion, and we are all entitled to it. Good Luck on opening day guys, please be safe. Wish i could spotlight some areas that had alot rabbits, as I would ask permission to hunt there, as you rarely see rabbits sitting out in the open during the day, night time is the only time you can see them. www.bellmorekennels.com

  12. Thanksfor watching guys. Karp, where do you teach? My wife an A.P. in queens.
  13. I spray myself with 100% deet, the dogs get once a moth spot on treatment, then sprayed down before each hunt with a mix of tick dip and vinegar, and afetr the hunt 5% insect powder lightly on each of them. Alot or work, but part of the job..
  14. Bellmorekennels and FJMbeagles, had a nice hunt today, very warm temperatures and dry conditions made scenting tough on dogs, but we ended up harvesting 3 rabbits, 1 miss, and a few more runs that resulted in either losses or holed up rabbits. A very nice outing, would like to thank Frank from FJM beagles for being a great host, enjoy the vidoes Frank Shoots rabbit 1 Frank shoots Rabbit 2, breeze retrieves Thanks, bellmorekennels http://www.bellmorekennels.com http://www.fjmbeagles.com
  15. Deaddeer, Karp let the arrow fly not you, and he is very proud of his first deer with a bow, why would you say it was a waste? That choice is upto the hunter, and end result, he is standing over a deer he harvested, weather a doe or 10 pointer, it is his tag. Guess it would of been ok if it was a big doe? what difference does it make? I am sure that meat is super tender, enjoy it karp!!!
  16. Congrats Karp, glad you finally connected, alot of work, but feels good once it comes together.
  17. Karp, thanks, I just along for the ride though, it is the dogs that do all the work!! Wasn't sure if I should post my miss or not, but that is part of hunting. Congrats on your daughter's birthday! Hopefully you and geno tag out soon, so we can get together before too much snow on ground. Maybe within the next few weeks , we get together with geno, and go for some appetizers or something at fridays or applebees. Let me know what you think.
  18. Sorry to hear this ,but happens everyewhere and all the time. It is the reason I sold my 40 acres I used to have near liberty, ny. I had food plots, created a swamp area for bedding and water source, and besides always seeing proof of trespassers, I once caught a guy, and he told me he knew the owner for years. It almost turned into a fist fight, and really could of ended up worse with guns involved. Yes i did call dec, by the time they arrived he was gone. Had a friend who had somebody arrested , which was a local, and had constant vandalism to his house when he was not there. It is a real tough issue, I would try to go up during the week and see if you meet them, and would be polite about it. This should be done , before rifle season, as you do not want to get involved with this issue once guns are involved. Good Luck
  19. Rich, thanks I enjoy videoing just as much as shooting, nice to relive whenevr you want.. There were a few rubs I did notice, and a fresh scrape nearby also.
  20. Sucks about your friend, did he think about calling a deer tracker with dogs, I would offer to do but, I usually shock my dogs for trailing deer, so do not want to promote it with them, sorry.
