I think he's henned up, was yelping in the woods 80 yards away for like 20 minutes. Didn't come out in the field though. Might give him a bit and go in after him.

Somebody is absolutely hammering in the woods behind me. 1 of the Jakes is still here.

These Jakes came running in, but 100% silent. Still hanging around. I even gobbled at them, hoping to start a ruckus, nothing other than some purring.

Thinking about breaking out the blind and setting up in our lower field. Wind is supposed to switch to north and it'll be sheltered there. Can't see them wanting to be in the hardwood on a windy day like this. Or maybe sneak out to my buddies south facing property.
-
But windy, weird NE wind. If there's nobody up top I'll probably go trawl the side of the hill. Good luck everybody, live from the outhouse!

I had a mean old hen come in purring with her hackles up and ready to fight, then 2 dumb Jakes. Right as I was leaving a gobbler started up in the lower field, see him next weekend maybe.

I don’t understand how some of you guys on the forum think they can tell a gobble is 400yds away or 800yd or 1500yds. to think you judge distance that far based on sound with so many variables (wind, topography, etc.), seems quite silly.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk ProI know i sure as hell can't. Sound is weird up here at 2000 feet in a quiet day. One you think is 100 yards away is actually 2 fields over and vice versa.

Well, just had an interesting one. On my way through a lease I don't have permission to hunt, but can cross, almost to property I have permission, see a fan just over a stone wall. Stone wall is the boundary. Drop down, hear a couple puts, leaves crashing, then 2 gobbles right on top of each other. First noise they made. I had just yelped not 200 yards away to see if anybody was there first. One of them comes to check me out, puts, and wanders off. Good news is they didn't spook hard and went further into the property I can hunt. Giving them 30 before I do anything. Birds are really quiet up here the last few years.

I can't tell you how many times I've never heard a gobble when roosting, only to hear them going nuts in the morning. Don't give up hope..
There's tracks, my guess is still down low from the high winds. They'll be up, I hope

Just covered 2 miles of prime roosting territory, owl hooting every couple hundred yards, no gobbles

Picked up 600 lbs yesterday, it's up a bit from last year, but not exponentially so.

Hyenas have probably eaten more human remains since we started walking upright than any other species. Some of the stuff you read about them will give you the Willie's. Very very smart.

One of those mornings where you can hear everything for half a mile, but not a single gobble. Some idiot has educated these birds too much. Gonna hang in the blind for 10 more minutes then start trawling.
