Yea where I live lucky to find them under 60 at some local shops without driving a hr to buffSent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

I used to shoot all the time but ammo prices and availability of 22 where we could shoot 1000s of rounds has slowed us down aways....still love to shoot trap with my 12 g as walmart always has the 100 packs cheap Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

If you eat it or not it's about respect of the animal and woods. Treat the harvest right even if just a free meal for a fox put out of sight of others lay it peacefully and be thankful that we have the opportunity to hunt and fish the species we have. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

I also will admit to shooting and trapping animals without desire to eat it...I use some for trapping bait including squirrels bc I don't eat them. I hunt deer for meat and the rest is for woodsmanship practice and bait for trapping or to teach my son how to hunt. We chipmunk and red squirrel hunt all year as well as wood chuck. In my eyes small game such as squirrel woodchuck ect are not hunted for the meat by most but more for the sport and the environment will bennifit from it as the predators and scavengers will eat them and if not they will decompose into the earth and feed the ground. Just my .02 Pheasant on the other hand is not ok to me I have never shot one but love to see them and take alot of pics of them yearly Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

Damn not good trespassers? Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

Yea that may be right but I'm telling you that the hole the round punched thru these deer were ridiculously small and didn't seem to tear anything up. I mean the damage to the organs was minimal at best if it had been any worse shot probably a lost deer. Kinda like another thread posted when guys were saying they purposely aim for front shoulder bc it drops them on the spot. Rifles IMO do not provide the blood trail that a shotty does and again unless over 100 yards consistently really not any better of a choice IMO. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

270 was core loc not sure grain off hand out of a savage axis3030 was Hornady lever revolution again not sure grain off hand outta mossberg 454 tactical Actually no longer have 3030 due to the poor performance that had on both deer taken with that rifle....both dead deer but both long tracks little blood with ok shot plcement Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

Ok I have seen it more than once tho call it a faulty round call it bad luck call it anything but I have shot a deer with both a 270 and a 3030 inside 30 and had a pencil hole in and out...then killed deer out round 100 and comes out like a golf ball or better....now take a 12 g slug at 50 yards it goes in like a gumball and comes out like a baseball...same at 100...it's a better round when you don't need to shoot over 100 just bc it hurts some to shoot doesn't mean it will hurt him Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

I hunt with all weapons legal from compound xbow shotty rifle...and inside 100 yards a rifle or shotgun will do the job everytime. I will say that I have seen deer shot with rifles at close range under 50 and get at clean thru with no expansion when out past its devastating. So in that aspect I MO if most of your shooting is within 100 yards I'd swap to 12 g too...I have a mossy 500 rifled barrel scoped with Hornady sst slugs that I'm confident to 150 with do I ever exceed that where I hunt no. I shot my doe with muzzle loader at 140 ish yards and that was as far as you would shoot....now if I am sitting in a spot where I know my range is 100+ I'll take rifle or loader to be safe bc it is more accurate...but remember we are talking about killing deer not shooting Bulls we have a 8 in play easy and that's all that matters.....I personally say go for the shotty figure out what it likes and have fun with it just all not her tool for the job....the kick isn't that bad????
