This is the brushlot he went into after the shot. The field on the right is where the neighbor saw the 10 chasing the doe around. -

Well 4 guys, 2 dogs, 3hrs in a 3 acre brushlot and couldn't find any evidence of the deer anywhere. After the showers we had last night and the 5 to drops of blood to start with it was pretty much a body search. We searched the surrounding woods and ravine bottom as well and still nothing. I can still remember the last one I didn't recover in Wisconsin (the landowner found him in the spring and he taped at 168-5/8") and this one bothers me just as bad. I practice religiously and strive for clean and quick kill shots. I know alot of things can happen especially with archery but it doesn't make it easier. The big 10 I saw early in the a.m. stuck around even with all the commotion in the woods, the neighboring land owner sent me a text at 4:30 saying a slob 10 was running a doe around the open field. Back in the tree tomorrow and try for redemption. -

I was looking at some of my euros last night and there's just so many different scenarios. Unfortunately we had some showers last night and any blood that was there is gone so it just grinding through this thick brush now but not looking good. We did jump a big 10 that was on the shooter list just hoping he comes back now -

I will say that he wasn't acting like any other wild deer does. When he was standing there in the brush he just kept looking around and shaking his head. The impact of the shot literally knocked him off his feet. Thanks, I hope I do as well. I hate to wound them and I hate that I can't even think of an explanation for what happened. My pin was settled right on that one hair covering his heart at 25 yes so how in the hell does the arrow hit him in the head. -

There is just about 1-1/2" of broadleaf buried in his skull. -

Well I don't even know where to start. About a half hour after daybreak I had a doe and fawn come through with showers shortly after. I sat until 10 decided to pull a stand and move it. Got done with that still showers on and off so I figured screw it I'm already wet might better climb into a stand. I decided to hit another property so I went there climbed in the tree at 1:30 and it was sprinkling with some flurries mixed in at about 2:30 it had stopped. 15 minutes later I have 2 mature doe a button buck and doe fawn to my left at 35 yards just milling around when a doe comes in from my right and I hear a grunt. I grab the bow and out walks a heavy 8. I draw the bow and he is at 25 yards and I let it go. I don't remember ever hearing such a loud crack and the deer literally is knocked down and starts kicking and scrambling to get up. While this is happening I see my arrow and realize I've somehow shot him in the head. I grab another arrow but he has gotten up and stands just inside of a brush lot with no available shot for 20 minutes. He dropped my arrow while he was thrashing but looking through binoculars I could see I hit him above the eye and below the base of his antler. I get down just before dark and I still have no clue what happened. I went to where he stood in the brush and there was 5 or 6 spots where droplets of blood fell. The side of his face was pretty bloody though. I will go in the morning and see if there's any sign of him. I hate this feeling. -

So my oldest boy and me went out to sit when he got out of class yesterday afternoon for the last couple hours. He saw a single fawn that was wondering around looking for mom. I saw zero but just on the other side of the ravine from this spot the farmer started combining the 60 some acres of corn finally. Was hoping to get out this am but had work and it was pouring. Won't be out in the woods until Saturday but took Monday off for a 3 day weekend. -
Just my view of the world waking up on a bitter cold morning from one of my favorite stands.

Sat the edge of the bean field again for the last 2 hrs of the day as it's an easy and quick stand for me to hop in after work. I had a buck down over the bank from me grunting and pacing back and forth but never got a good luck at his head gear as he was in a bunch of thick stuff. There's a patch of woods that that sticks out into the field on opposite side that's only 10 yards wide at the widest spot and is roughly 300 yards from me. With about an hour or so left of shooting light I see a doe come flying out with a little 6 running her hard. I get caught up watching them so much that I didn't see the other buck come out until he was about 50 yards from me and coming in hot. I grab my bow and am about to draw when I realize it's the up and comer. With this being the last week he's really beginning to push his luck. -
One of Mt honey holes is a piece of state land that's 5.25 acres. Been quite a few bucks taken off it over the years.

You could hang your leg off the edge of the stand. -

I told my wife if I ever found some old lady with a bunch of prime real-estate not to take it to heart and that I still love her but a man has to do what a man has to do. -

Some of the best advice I was given but didn't take was from my grandfather. He said "you should marry a fat ugly one that can cook and clean, you know you'll come home to a clean house and a good meal. If you do something to piss her off and she leaves who cares, she was fat and ugly anyways." -

Sao after last night having several different bucks grunting and seeing the big half racked should've been 8 I decided to pull an all day sit. Had a doe and fawn come through right after first light and that was all of my action for the rest of the day and a long day at that. -
Fischer In my opinion it's the fishers that are the main reason in the decline. Every year I see more fishers and less turkeys.

Had a short morning hunt on the bean field before my sons last JV football game of the season. In before sunrise and had deer all around until sunrise. At 8:45 this up and comer decided to take a stroll looking for a date. Sat until 9:30 then went to game then to a new spot I just got permission at for the evening. I've only hunted here one other time and that was the youth hunt with my son when he got his first so I'm packing the climber. Picked a spot that is pretty thick off the edge of a power line that had 2 freshly opened scrapes. Had a doe go through about 4 then at 5 had what would have been easily at least a mid 120's 8 if his right side wasn't broke off just passed the brow tine. Little later had 2 different bucks grunting on each side of me but no view of either. Just before last light a spike decided to come through. Left the climber hanging on the tree for the morning hoping to get eyes on the one that broke the big 8. First is a pic of the up and comer that is pushing his luck as this is the 3rd time I've passed. 2nd is my son with his 1st. -
Thanks for the laugh man I needed it. But you know what they say about them big girls don't ya. They're like mopeds, fun to ride but you don't want your friends seeing ya.

Good luck today to all who are out. Unfortunately life calls and I'm back in the office for the day and then Friday night lights so I won't be back out until Saturday. Yesterday afternoon saw a doe with fawn a small 6 and nothing else. A buddy text me as I was walking out said he needed a hand. I met him at 8 to start looking he marked where the shot happened and then back out until we got there. We went about 60 to 70 yards when the lights hit a set of eyes about 30 yes in front of us and at that time the blood went from good to drops. The eyes took off and I had an uneasy feeling and sure enough it was the buck he shot and the three spots he bedded down. When he jumped he opened up and was bleeding pretty good again so I told my buddy we can back out or push him to make him bleed out hopefully. He decided to push and 100 or so yards later he was done.- 9078 replies

7P got in the stand at 3:15 thick brushlot to my right with pines and hardwoods mixed front, left, and behind me. 5 minutes after sitting down I see a little Doe in the brush just browsing around for ten minutes then she laid down. Half hour later she runs out of the brush in front of me hits the woods and just keeps walking. I keep watching behind her for a bit and nothing so I hit the grunt and rattled a couple times and I hear a grunt in the brush so I'm looking hard with my binoculars and see a tall heavy framed would have been 8 but had a tine busted off. I grunted and he snort wheezed at me two times. That's the first I've heard a deer do it which was cool but he was not moving. I grunted pretty aggressive and he started on his way to me out of the brush. He stepped out but was quartering to me at 35 yards and I just kept telling myself wait until he gives me a good shot. He stood there for what seemed like forever but was probably only a couple minutes at most. When he started to move he turned hard to the right which I only had a small softball size hole to shoot through so I held off no sooner did a doe stand up in the brush right by where I first saw him and he bolts back into the brush and she laid back down and so did he. I got out as quiet as I could when it was dark and I never heard them take off so hopefully they'll be there in the morning as I am starting to feel a bit under the weather for at least a couple hours in the morning.
