  1. Got some work to do I'll catch up with the story later. Got it done in 7P
  2. Had a young buck chasing around a couple doe just after sunrise this morning for about a half hour. I'm guessing it was a yearling doe with her mother. First time I saw them I heard some russling then heard a grunt then another and here comes this doe full run right under my stand so I grab the bow and get ready. I can see a deer coming on the same path and sure enough it's a buck he was an average body size but I'm not sure if he's been busted off or what cause all I could see was his bases. Then I hear another grunt from behind him and think oh yeah here comes big brother but nope pretty sure it was the mother of the doe being chased because 5 min later the 2 doe come back 2 minutes later there's another grunt the little doe takes off the buck comes running up passes the big doe running after the little one then the big doe grunts and starts on the chase.
  3. Saw a young buck chasing a couple doe around just after sunrise in 7P.
  4. Nothing quite like sitting from 1:30 until dark and not seeing a damn thing and when you get back to your truck there are literally 10 deer standing in the field across the road from your truck 30 yards away looking at you.
  5. Didn't see that someone had already started a topic.
  6. Just saw this pic on AT and guy says it was supposedly hit by Brockport. 244 lbs and 23 points. Anybody else hear about this.
  7. Took my time and came in on a ranked path to a new stand I put in this summer. Get 30 yds from the stand a deer blows and takes of from an old pine blow down.
  8. Don't know for sure what it is but I gotta feeling something good is awaiting me in the woods this morning.
  9. Thank you for the compliment and I agree with you 100% and one day he will understand.
  10. Thank you all for your insight. I am truly proud of the man he is becoming. After his 3rd or 4th apology I finally said stop apologizing and he did nothing wrong and that anybody whose ever hunted has missed. I had to tell him that I was actually impressed by the fact he was able to even get 2 shots off and not give up his location. He truly wants his first deer so bad that I can't begin to describe it. I want it for him as well honestly it would be my best season ever even if I had to eat my own tags.
  11. Well my oldest son who is a senior in high school decided he didn't want to play football his senior year decided he wanted to bow hunt with me again. He did when he was in 7th and 8th grade but things picked up and time was limited to maybe 1 or 2 gun hunts. So we decided he was going to sit a new set I put in this summer where a decent 8, and a 6 have been pretty regular. At 5 my phone is vibrating in my pocket non stop. It's him dad I just shot at a doe should I get down are you coming no wait there are more deer and so on. I reply take a breath and relax sit down I'll be there shortly and now I'm telling myself the same thing. I pack up and go to him ok where was she when you shot? He guides me perfectly to where she was when he shot and I have to sadly pull his arrow out of the dirt and say sorry bud you missed. This is when I hear I shot at her again. What you shot at her again ok where was she that time this time there is no arrow but no hair or blood I can see where she took off and followed for about 50 yds go back are you sure she was standing here yeah dad but I think I hit a branch or something sure enough 5 yds in front of me is a swinging branch. 20 yds behind me is the arrow. He immediately starts saying I'm sorry dad I'm sorry. I asked what are you sorry for and he says because he missed. All I know to tell him is a clean miss is better than a wounded deer you can't find and a little more practice time. He's completely bummed and I honestly don't know who is more down him or me. Anyway it was a great afternoon with my son.
  12. The deer you had on camera will most likely be back or at least cruise through there when the food they have switched to is gone. Bucks and does now are hitting food to pack on fat for the rut. I do have to ask though how often do you go in to pull your cards and do you try to make as little impact as possible, or do have cell cams?
  13. This is why I asked. I have used a dog on a previous trip to Wisconsin. My partner and I thought we were doing the right thing by exhausting all our efforts looking. We should have just backed out the dog handler told us. The dog worked hard but just couldn't get on the deer. The next spring the land owner found that buck 150 yards away from the last spot we got to out in a thick clear cut.
  14. outdoorstom I'm just curious as to how far past last blood a hunter should pursue before calling a dog in.
  15. October 1'st is coming quick and I have an issue. I have the optional limb stop on as well. Tonight I put a few arrows down range and something just didn't feel right so I gave the bow a look over and that's when I noticed that the top limb stop is missing. Just wondered if anybody had one they would be willing to get rid of? I know there are aftermarket ones but I like the feel of the stock ones. Thanks in advance.
  16. You can tell that to my turkey hunting partner who gets a few every season. Maybe it's because he walks through first and collects them. I can't provide scientific evidence just the input that I have not had a tic since I started using them. I was just trying to help and if somebody got them and they didn't work then there's a money back guarantee.
  17. I've used the Hypodermics since they came out, I've also used the chisel tips both use the collars and have never had an issue.
  18. I will admit I was skeptical to at first but like I said 3 years and not a tic.
  19. I use to use it and I believe it definitely works. 3 years ago a friend introduced me to tic-tags. Since using them I haven't had a tic on me. I believe they both work but one you wash your clothes with and the other you just put in your pocket. I get mine at a small roadside farm stand where I live but I'm sure you could find them on amazon. And no I have no interest in this company nor with Sawyer's just trying to help.
  20. They are changing patterns. They will hit the acorns if available over most anything else, if you have the cans on another food source they'll be back once the acorns are depleted and may even bring others with them.
  21. I was sitting in traffic on the Tappan zee Bridge heading to the city for work. My inactive duty reserve end date was on 9/01/2001 and if it hadn't been for my wife being pregnant with our oldest I would have signed the papers to go again.
  22. Just got off the phone with DEC officer the phone numbers have been confirmed as well as the person whose number it is.
  23. Well I'm glad to hear that your teams follow that program, it's a great model IMO. However it is a brutal physical sport but I do love the game even though it takes me a little while to get moving in the morning. My oldest son started playing flag football when he was 4 and this year as a senior decided he didn't want to play anymore. I miss seeing him on the field but he said it just wasn't fun anymore. Anyways I wish you and your son the best.
