  1. I couldn't help but fire up some ribs on the grill today. Geechee born and Geechee bred
  2. So since i couldn't find anything in the search, I guess ill pose the questions... Is stainless really much better than blued? If you clean your rifle after you return do you even need to worry about corrosion? Would an anti corrosive like tuff cloth negate the stainless advantage? How bad does the weather have to be for you to see rusting while in the field and is that type of weather even huntable by the sane?
  3. I've abandoned the Ruger Compact for the Remington Model 7. Weight wise wasn't much different and I think the 20 inch barrel of the Remmy is a good compromise. Now I'm stuck n stainless or blued. I like the look of the blue better but the ruggedness of the stainless has its appeal too. I think there was a blued vs stainless thread on here imma look for. 4. My first time out I had a small stool, a loaded backpack and my rifle of course. I was sweating by the time I got to my spot and ended up leaving the stool. As I moved around I saw a bunch of other Hunters that had a fanny pack at the most. They were all comfy while I was huffing and puffing. That taught me to def go lighter. 7. When it's time to head into the woods for your hunt, how light do you go? Do you carry your rifle/bow and what fits in your pockets or do you bring a load of gear. What do you carry? Geechee born and Geechee bred
  8. Yea, it's the Ruger Hawkeye CompactGeechee born and Geechee bred
  9. This looks like it can be a sweet bolt action rifle for the deeps woods where a long shot isn't usual but might be possible. 36.75 inches overall length 16.5 inch barrel Chambered in 308 Geechee born and Geechee bred
  10. Welcome aboard. What game do you have on your sights? Geechee born and Geechee bred
  11. How often does common sense and practicality come into play for your hunting purchases? Is it the majority of the time or do wants drive a lot with practicality as an afterthought? I personally tend to fight with the two lol. The wants tend to win more and usually cost me more money but it's fun. Geechee born and Geechee bred
  12. Thanks guys. I have the "I wanna buy a gun just because" itch and was looking at calibers I don't have. Saw the Weatherby accuguard and got curious but it sounds like way more distance than I'll need in NY. Hell I still think my 270 is more distance than I'll need in NY. Geechee born and Geechee bred
  13. Have any of you guys have experience with the 257 Weatherby? From what I'm reading and the videos I'm seeing, it's a hell of a cartridge with 100 grain bullet for deer and black bears. The trajectory is said to be laser like out to 500 yards. Geechee born and Geechee bred

  15. I'm 38 so my generation was the original video gaming generation but we didn't let it consume us. We played them but we also understood the joy you can have from being outside with friends. Kids now will stay inside all day playing video games and talking to their "friends" through the game console. Geechee born and Geechee bred
  16. I don't know the last time a saw kids playing tag, cops and robbers, or build club houses. Geechee born and Geechee bred
  17. I learned my lesson about posting in the wrong areas lolGeechee born and Geechee bred
  18. The way that NY vilify guns, it's no wonder that new Hunters are sparse. My wife is a perfect example of the lower NY way of thinking. She gets mad when I clean my rifles around the kids and she hates the fact that I'm buying my daughter a single shot 22lr when she turns 12. They teach you to believe that any and all guns are murder weapons with no other purpose. Geechee born and Geechee bred
  19. If you HAD to thin out your rifles and keep 3 that you can hunt the world with, what calibers would you keep? Since most of us are just regular folks, let's exclude the dangerous five. I'll keep my 22lr, .270 win, and the .338 win mag. Geechee born and Geechee bred
  20. I have no clue Geechee born and Geechee bred
  21. True... I wonder if lee has dies or just hornady. Gonna have to take a look for curiosity sake.Geechee born and Geechee bred
  22. What's your take on the "new" ruger version of the classic 375 h&h and 416 rigby? Spec wise it looks like the Ruger version is a little better performance wise but availability of ammo seems flaky. Have any of you guys experienced and of the Ruger cartriges? Geechee born and Geechee bred
  23. I was looking at those too. Very nice looking rifles. Geechee born and Geechee bred
