I decided to go with the 12ga. The misses gave me a gift certificate to the lgs so I got me a Mossberg 500 with a 28in barrel, 100 rounds of #5 shot, and 700 rounds of 22lr.

Is a 12 gauge that much better than a 20 gauge when it comes to turkey hunting or is the argument between the two just old opinion and hot air?

Very passionate today but if I can get the amount of time out that I want I'd be an addict.

Ditto on the boots. I learned last year that boots and gloves were VERY important.

I needed to get some better cold weather hunting gear because what I had last year wasn't sufficient at all, so I did that as well as one of those heat seat cushions.

It's getting real crazy. It's either going to be cops striking and letting the animals kill themselves or cops gonna become hypervigilante

Was watching the news this morning and they said because of the harsh winter there are less deer especially in SW New York and in the Catskills.

A Texas deputy was abused and killed while filling his patrol car as a gas station. What the hell is going on lately?

The misses is letting me enter the vault and buy a new toy lol. I'm looking at a mossberg 500 and a remington 870 in 20ga with a 26in barrel that I plan on using for early season squirrel hunting and can swing into turkey action once I learn more. The issue I'm having is that the 500 has wood furniture and I'm not the biggest fan of wood on guns but the polymer 870 doesn't have sling attachments. I'm always iffy on wood because of the possibility of warping. Do you guys find that warping is an issue of any real concern? As for the remington, it's only 8lbs so would the absence of a sling be a deal breaker for you?

I have an H&R slug hunter in 20ga that's a tack driver but for that price I'd gladly buy one of those as well. Do you think they would do an ffl transfer?

I just wanna say thanks to this site and all the guys and gals on it. Being a rookie hunter I've learned a ton from you guys and look forward to learning more and maybe teaching someone new a few things I've learned through trial and error.
