  1. It's all good. Just feel we got a lot of bullshitters here. I hate to profile by the way someone types or expresses there experiences, but if I went back and dug through these threads some....there's a lot of conflicting opinions and stances some here haven't remebered to stick to very well...if for nothing more than their own credability. Holyer than thou attitudes portrayed from thread to thread except for that one screw up when you all thought nobody was paying attention. Believe me, I read them all. Arrowflipper is right at the top of that list right beside bubba. I agree... there are a lot those that don't walk the walk... I happen to be one of the ones that do... killing a whitetail is not more important to me than the excitement of the hunt and the story behind it.
  2. What endangered animal would that be?? If you mean Big Bucks... yeah they probably are in danger if I'm hunting them Shooting animals on the endangered species list is against the law.. much like shooting a deer before and after legal shooting time
  3. Pat.. again you need to learn to read things all the way through... only the plants in section (e) are protected and pertain to the law... wild leeks are not part of that section.
  4. I'm sure that most guys feed their family the venison that they harvest... me included... but It is certainly not a necessity... and not the reason guys hunt
  5. If we were talking about survival there might be a grey area.. but when it comes to the law and the importance of killing a deer during a hunting situation... there is no grey area.. that deer is not more important than the law
  6. As I have stated, anyone who says they hunt for the need to feed their family is stretching the truth. They could take the money they spend on a license, gun, bow and other equipment and the gas they spend to go hunting and buy food, which would be much more food than a deer equates to. They could also take the time they dedicate to hunting and get a second job to bring in money to buy food. When a person says they need to hunt to feed their families, I picture a family of 15 with no food in the cupboards. If that was the case, they could not afford a license and would be hunting illegally to feed a family. And believe me, I would do the same if I needed to, but not use it as an excuse to break the law under supposedly hunting. Bingo!
  7. It is absolutely not illegal to pick wild leeks in NY... show me that law
  8. Unbelievable how many guys are okay with doing something illegal just to kill a whitetail ??? wonder what else they might do?
  9. That is just a beautiful lab...
  10. Throw a bunch of birdseed over in your neighbors yard...
  11. Pat the whole thing is about 5 minutes, Some think if you shoot 5 minutes before or after legal shooting time you are a criminal. I am not talking about shooting in the dark or road hunting, just those few minutes leading up to legal hunting time. Many times I don't even wear a watch and in that case I let the light and field of view be my guide. I am arguing a point not saying I am shooting deer illegally, but if I saw a nice buck at 6:50 instead of 6:55 am I think I would shoot.Dave If you do something against the law... it is a crime... but what is more of a crime is that some hunters care more about killing the buck than the law... and as someone has already said.. even if the law was changed to 15 minutes before and after legal sunrise and sunset.. some guys would be using the same lame excuse if they shot a buck 20 minutes before or after... it's too bad really that hunters can't learn better restraint... seems kinda selfish

    Why?

I try and shoot 10 arrows a day with the recurve.. i make it a contest with myself to try and get a tighter group at 20 yards each day... 10 arrows doesn't eat up a lot of time
  13. Antler did you ever hunt in the woods and the fog rolls in, not a good situation but it's legal hunting time. I have many times and have just been able to make out the legs of a deer so according to you I should shoot because it's legal hunting time. It is a decision to shoot or not to shoot depends on lots of things and good shooting light is the main concern. See your target and beyond and you can only do that if you have enough light. I don't recall many times that it isn't legal shooting light that I have seen deer.Dave Did I say somewhere in my posts that I think guys should shoot deer in a fog because it's legal shooting time??? I must have forgot i posted that.... although that is not illegal.. it is dangerous... no deer is worth breaking the law or doing something dangerous or doing something unethical period... and what does a fog have to do with shooting before legal shooting time?.. where do you guys come up with your logic??
  14. So far I think the statement has been proven that many guys don't take the time to look at their watch...

    Why?

A buddy and I always carry blunt arrows during the turkey season.. we stump shoot our way out of the woods @ noon... sometimes that can be the highlight of the day if you know what I mean ;D
  16. Sorry Joe I have never ever looked at my watch to see if it was legal shooting time. Talking about this hunting situation on this thread will not change my mind, it's not even something that crosses my mind while on stand. If the deer is close and it's around the end of legal time give or take 10 minutes I will shoot. Again, most guys I believe would. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, you and Bubba get high marks for this. I just don't see it as such a big deal. I am a real good hunter, respect the game, have mentored kids in the woods and go the extra mile to promote hunting. IMO...The law is always a big deal.. looking at your watch doesn't take but a second.. It is irresponsible not to and I wouldn't call that person much of a hunter... a deer is not all that important that you need to break the law to get one.. I'm sure you look at your watch plenty when it comes to quitting time at work
  17. The fact that a buck only leaves you little time to shoot at him, should have nothing to do with shooting a buck before LEGAL shooting time... this is the lack of hunter restraint that I talk about... and that restraint should apply to big bucks or little bucks .. or even doe for that matter. What makes killing a deer so important that you need to break the law to do it???... the time is set for a reason... one persons idea of good shooting light is not anothers so the DEC has set one for you so there are no grey areas... this is another example where there has to be a law created to save some hunters from themselves! So, hard to believe how some adults just can't do the right thing...
  18. I have my wife trained to set my watch ahead 5 minutes the night before for just such an occasion...
  19. It always chokes me up a bit to see the hear about the courage that men display in the name of honor... I didn't see much problem with the seating arrangements, except that all the politicians and the first lady could have taken a seat in the rear... the men in front of the soldiers were past Medal of Honor recipients.. and I would think that out of respect the soldiers chose to be seated behind them. Not knowing how many were there for Sgt Guinta.. I see no problem with the families of the soldiers that died in battle having to be seated behind them...
  20. I'm sure that a 12 year old sitting with his old man or within eye shot while he learns to hunt doesn't pose a great threat on anyone... especially during bow season... hence the reaosn for parental supervision... it isn't like there are going to be large masses of 12 and 13 year old kids running willy nilly through the woods all across New York State... it's a chance to get them legitimately exposed to the hunting experience with a chance for their own harvest...that harvest is probably what will really anchor them toward being a future hunter... just sitting around and watching even gets boring for us adults. As long as I'm not dressed as some wild fantasy world ninja...and the kid isn't armed with the latest and greatest video game controller.. I think I'll be plenty safe enough
  21. So Wolly who gets to decide who is competent and who is not...? what pisses some guys off may not piss me off... so who gets to decide?
