SAFE Act Changes

Maybe but they don't have what I need - 30-06 ~160 grains and lead-free. -
Who can say they've seen a hummingbird courting dance ?
Curmudgeon replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
Interesting about hummer displays. We have only one species here but in the west the different species can be identified by their different displays - even if they won't sit still long enough for a good look. -

The only thing that matters is, when I call Cabela's, will they ship me what I want or not. Lawyers, guns, money and Libs don't matter if the stuff doesn't get shipped. Jaeger - I've been away and missed the earlier thread. Good screen name. -

The Daily Star - Oneonta - ran an article correcting and earlier one that said internet sales would resume. The earlier information came from Senator Seward. -
This species is closely related to Mourning Doves but it has a limited habitat range. It only nests in grape arbors adjacent to houses. These are newly fledged babies next to the patio table. Photos were taken by the lady of the house while I was away.

SAFE Act Changes

I read that internet ammo sales will again be legal for NYS. However, someone told me on the phone last night that that was not true. Does anyone know for sure if internet ammunition purchases will will be allowed? -
I just got back from a trip and saw the purpose of this thread. I did not read many posts and this is my only comment. A fair amount of people who are not members read posts on the site - hunters and non alike. I took my name out of my signature line recently. I don't say anything on this site I wouldn't say in public, or to any of you in person. I don't feel a need to be anonymous because of what I say. I took it off because one particular discussion triggered the animal rights folks. They found my land line number, and even though I don't pick up unidentified calls, they started calling in the middle of the night just to wake me, leaving critical messages. There are lurkers out there for whatever it is worth.

If I was as prescient as you, I could be a good troll. Darn rain. -
That log is 30 yards from my back door. 80% of the pond is screened from the house by willows. It seems very private for the ducks, The back yard doesn't get used much. I put the log there for bird/frog/turtle watching.

Good thing my daughter isn't around. She would rip you a new one.

Doc - I agree with you, but when I was in Iceland, whale was on the menu. I was really interested in trying it but emotionally squeamish. I'm too much of a tree hugger I guess. While I was there, Hulda - a distant cousin - was telling me about Kieko, the killer whale from Free Willy that was in a pen in Iceland. Being somewhat ignorant of pop culture I did not know that Americans were raising 10s of thousands of dollars to try to teach the killer whale to return to the wild. Hulda, however, was very well informed. She thought it one of the most stupid things she knew. She also had a serious and simple solution to Keiko - EAT HIM!

Only fathead minnows in pond. They are food for the mergansers and kingfishers. There are many frogs and tadpoles that are also food for birds, snakes and dragonfly larvae. My other pond had trout but some years the water drops and warm water killed them. Now it's filled with bluegills that swam up the outlet. There's a green heron hanging out over there but I haven't checked that camera lately. I checked the camera today because the snapping turtle has been hanging out on the far side of that log. I guess it is too far, or moves too slowly to trigger the camera. Here are some more. Some are older.

Some info below. This from wikipedia: "Horse meat is generally not eaten in the United States and holds a taboo in American culture which is very similar to the one found in the United Kingdom.[102] All horse meat produced in the United States (up until the last quarter of 2007) was intended solely for export abroad, primarily to the European Union. A thriving horse meat exportation business is going on in several states, including Texas, mainly exporting horses to slaughterhouses in either Canada or Mexico.[103] Restriction of human consumption of horse meat in the U.S. has generally involved legislation at local, state and federal level. Several states enacted legislation either prohibiting the sale of horse meat or banning altogether the slaughter of horses. The State of Texas, for example, banned in 1949 the sale of horsemeat as well as the any trade operation, such as transportation, involving horse meat.[104" http://www.infowars.com/usda-approves-horse-slaughterhouse-to-produce-meat-for-human-consumption/ http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/11/04/on-menu-horse-meat/ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/01/is-horse-meat-legal-in-the-us_n_2966499.html

Old pets, race track nags and probably some of the wild ones they round up go to auction. Anything that is ambulatory and can pass inspection might end up as human food. If it is in rough shape, dog food - at least in the past. The dog food companies around here used to pick up down animals. Some of them closed and I hear it is harder to get them to do it these days. A buddy with a backhoe buried a horse recently. I don't know if it was a funeral for a pet or if the dog food guys wouldn't come. My Dad's family ate horse during WW2. If it is illegal now, it wasn't then.

A few years ago, many of the horses sold at auction were being exported for meat. I don't know if that is still the case with the dollar/euro exchange rate changing so dramatically.

Does anyone know who replaced Gordon Bacheller?

Guys - The rain stopped and my work is about to begin. Weekends and holidays don't matter. All functional time will be spent at the office. So, I am leaving this to you guys all with some parting words. Continue to have fun with it. 1 - I am shocked that there was only one response to the Django Rheinhardt comment. However, I too like banjos. I am probably one of the very few here who has seen Earl Scruggs live. I missed Lester Flat though. 2 - The apples over 1650' are loaded. The apples lower - in the orchard by the house - took a big hit. I'm glad I top-worked all those wild trees. 3 - Ants - I was being sarcastic in post 146. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew. VJP has pointed out that I sometimes confuse people. Anger is a luxury that I can no longer afford to indulge. If memory serves, there is only one thread of mine where anger was a motivation. 4 - I was not being sarcastic when I said I was astounded by the reaction to this thread. Call me naive. 5 - Papist - If you want people to stop talking about it, start here, start now. Don't be provocative with your avatar. Just ignore me. I'm pretty meaningless in the big picture. -

Ouch, ouch, ouch. I think I need to go nurse that wound for a while. So, who is the blue crayon, you or me?
