Well, I had to cancel my reservation at Cabin Creek Muzzleloading for this years one week May muzzleloading building workshop due to transportation issue. If any of you are interested, they may still have the opening. Brad and Shane are great guys and it is very informative. It is a workshop, not a clinic. You work on your own gun with their guidance. I had started a 24 gauge Flintlock Fowler. Really hurts that I can't get it moved along.

Quick info for those of us with less than youthful eyes. My sight is horrible. I recently acquired a lever gun with open sights and in playing around with it I discovered I could see the front and rear sight pretty clearly with my "Computer Glasses". My computer glasses are glasses that have progressive lenses but, unlike regular progressive lens glasses, have most of the intermediate vision area, the 12"-2' range, taking up a larger portion of the center of the lenses. Regular progressives have distance vision at the top, intermediate in the middle and close at the bottom (that's why it is sometime hard to get used to stairs, we're looking down through the close vision part of the lens). Typically, the intermediate portion of the lens is about 1/3 of the lens, same as distance and close. In computer glasses, the intermediate vision part of the lens occupies a much larger portion of the lens, at least half the lens. Just by chance, I found I can see the open sights, still see distance and close up as well with these glasses. Actually, the distance and intermediate seem about the same and I can see the target, the front sight and pretty well the rear sight. Just FYI P.S., I do not get the same results with my progressive contacts, can't see the rear sight at all.

Got mine a few weeks ago, from Midway. Cancelled the co. order. Will prep a report on it when I become proficient with it. Initially, the base plate they sell for it seems unstable and hard to "lock in" the adjustments. Will be using a regular short camera tripod.

Well I took a walk with the dog down to the stream behind the house yesterday and before I got to it I smelled fuel oil or fumes. I was still about 40 vertical feet above the stream. It cuts through a gorge between the mountain. I went down to the stream and it was worse! I checked the bridge later and there it was in an eddy, a big covering of some sort of oil. We had an oil truck accident on Monday but I guess it took until yesterdays rains to run into the stream, the entire gorge stinks and my weekend trout fishing is to be abandoned. Probably for the rest of the spring and summer as well. I called last eve to report it to the local DEC fisheries. I'll see if they call back today. Someone should have to pay dearly for this pollution!!!!

Hey Airedale and others, THANKS!! I also emailed Hornady and they confirmed the 9th edition of their manual has some data. Thanks again! Jaeger

My brother and I used to go bottle fishing for killies down at the local pond. We also had a big woods behind the house that was owned by an "evil" lady with a really big (to us) dog. Trick was to spend time in the woods and run from the dog! Mom signed my up for swimming and archery lessons at an early age. Todays Mom's just don't seem to do things like that for their kids. A shame.

I'll ask again. Does anyone have a Hornady reloading manual with data for the 45 gr sp in .204 ruger? I'll not ask you to provide me the data, just please let me know if the manual has it so I can purchase it. I cannot find out if the manual has the data I need and do not want to purchase it if it doesn't. I contacted Hornady directly, but they haven't answered me. Thanks

Three calibers for the world
Jaeger replied to Borngeechee's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Brno zkw 465 in .22hornet, Custom mauser in 7x57 and Win. 70 classic stainless w/interchangable recoil pads in .375 H&H. The op was what 3 rifles, if shotguns were to be included I'd keep my win model 24 16ga. Have the same old book by the way. -
Great pics Mike, just so you guys know, a woodcock is a pretty small bird, tastes about like liver. The snipe is even smaller and never got to taste one. Doves are bigger and hopefully we can hunt them here in NY sometime in the near future. My aunt used to road hunt them, literally, with her '68 dodge coronette (sp?), but that's because she hated their early morning cooing and they woke her up! Ha!!

I've so far avoided stepping into this fire and even reading it, but I've read just the OP and here would be my choices. I'd stick to hunting with my recurves and longbows during the early season, I just enjoy them and get too much satisfaction from hunting with them to toss them aside for my crossbow. I'd turn to my crossbow during the last week or two of the regular bow/early bow season if I really wanted to put some doe in the freezer before the regular rifle season begins. I'd also keep the crossbow on hand during the regular rifle season and late muzzleloader season for any deer coming past the house, a target of opportunity if you will. The neighbor's are within 500ft and even if they weren't, they are elderly and I will not shoot a gun off next to our houses. Just my choices based on my situation. I do not travel to hunt, I have my landlords land 270 acres out back to hunt.

Where did you get it. Does anyone other than the manufacturer sell it at a lower price? I am very interested as I play around with reduced loads and can easily get into pressure trouble.

I used to use wax lube on the outside and wet lube on a neck brush on the inside when I full length resized brass. But I always have problems with wet lube on a brush for inside the neck. I went to just neck sizing my brass for some calibers and just use the Imperial dry lube/bead system, very simple, easy and effective. I've just tried using wax lube on most of the body including shoulder and dry lube the case neck inside and out on virgin brass. It worked very well. I may be in the minority, but I've always had trouble using wet/spray on lube on a brush for inside the neck. It got messy and I was never sure I lubed the entire surface or used too much. It's just so much easier for me to dip the case necks into the dry media.

Hi, does anyone know off hand what is available in Arizona in September, I will be out there for my goddaughters wedding. Anyone have a lead or know a reputable outfitter out there I can contact to see what's available?

DEC Webless Migratory Game Bird Survey - Includes Doves
Jaeger replied to mike rossi's topic in Waterfowl Hunting
Hey Mike, I didn't even notice that, the webless part. You're right, it only covered crows, woodcock, snipe, rails and those sorts, not ducks or geese. It did state I got my survey because I was registered with HIPP. Got to be careful with that registration, it does not run concurrently with our hunting season license year. HIPP starts in June and runs through the following May, I think. -
I'm sure Mike Rossi will expand on this but I just received a Migratory Game Bird Survey in my email from the DEC based on my HIPP registration. While it is mainly about the other migratory game birds I do hunt, there is a section that addresses the fact that there is currently no Dove season and asks questions about whether or not I would like one and similar. I would encourage all who get these surveys, either by email or snail mail, to fill them out and return them if for no other reason than to show overwhelming support for a future Dove season in NY. Gun-Reloading Room Makeover
Jaeger replied to airedale's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
Fantastic setup! My little cubby hole is shared with the freezer and I have to clean my guns on the kitchen table (see, there is some benefit in being single!). I can reload in my gun room but no room to actually work on the guns. -
Thanks, just asked because it's listed in the Norma loading manual.

But you can get one of those rimfire headspace guages that measure the thickness of the rims so you can sort ammo, if you haven't already. My low end 22 is a Ruger 77/22 wood stocked w/o sights and a bushnel banner 3-9x. With that and CCI Green tag, it'll pin dimes at 50 every time. Some yahoo's were making fun of me and that gun at the range when I was a kid. They were blasting away with their AR's they were scared of and hitting nothing. Range Master got behind me on my spotting scope. Guess those guys shut up after getting tired of the RM calling out "10 Ring!". When ya get a good gun/ammo combo, Keep It!!

I am looking for a Winchester 1885 Safari model in 300 H&H magnum. I expect to pay from $800 used to up to $1600 for NIB. If you have one for sale or know of where one is for sale, please email me at [email protected]. Thank you, Jaeger

Have you use the Norma MRP in your 7x57? I bought some Norma 203B and 204 for that.

Well, I think this counts. I high school I shot Winchester 52's. I recently bought a Winchester 52D target 22 w/o sights and am looking for a Redfield International set, Mark 8 if I can get them, can't wait to shoot it. I too got into high end 22's, have a Winchester 1885 low wall high grade w/gold rabbits and squirrels that I take out occasionally. But the real Holy Grail of the mid 70's was the Kleingunther K22, that was written up as the most accurate sporter available at the time. The Winchester 1885's in 17 wsm also interest me, love the cartridge but the Savage I had was disappointing.

Had a similar experience decades ago with a CVA mountain rifle and pyrodex. Was hunting the shotgun/muzzleloader January hunt down on Long Island out on Hither Hills. Was out all day in the on/off rain with about a hundred other guys, no chances to shoot. At the end of the hunt, I tried to pull the bullet with a puller, got it out and when I turned the gun upside down, Sludge oozed out the end of the barrel, even the primer had got wet from the inside!! Good thing I didn't see anything. Now I use some sort of muzzle protector, mitt, tape, etc. even with in lines. Lessons learned.

They probably left those areas out because they are/were "archery only" areas for the regular seasons. Seems contradictory to reclassify the crossbow as a bow for the regular bow season but not consider it a bow for the existing archery only areas. Weird.

Depending on how thick and heavy it is, it looks prime for a military '98 mauser action (military so it has the left side thumb cut out) and a 7x57 barrel. While I'm not a fan of the raised European side panels, they seem to already be there, or are they just for vise work? Looks like a really fun project, good luck!!
