i dont believe thats the correct way to go about it. pushing the use of steel shot should start at home and in the businesses selling the ammo. i dont believe it should take an act of congress to tell us what shot we can use. i dont thnk this bill being passed should even have come about. ALL IMO.

the trails that are closed arent marked in any way signifying that they are closed or close 4/1. my point is if the cops were there for the people, they would have said something before anyone went down it!!! all it takes is one of their sleds/wheelers in the middle of the trail or a wave to get a persons attention to then inform them the trails closed!!! for this particular event the only way to know what trails are open is by a map that the surrounding businesses make for the participants. but in order to get those maps 9 times out of 10 you have to traverse half the hill to get there all the while not knowing some of the trails you could be on are closed!!

during tug hills annual snirt run.... cops were set up at the start of a trail that was previously open during the snowmobiling season but closed as of 4/1. when a snowmobile or four wheeler would head down the trail only feet from the cops, the cops would let them go right on by then proceed to pull them over further down and write them a ticket. pretty awesome i pay my dues to nys and the ever inflating registration fees so law enforcement can pull this kind of crap isnt it?

i wouldnt have complained they had plenty of personnel to take care of a situation like that and handle a road stop at the same time. and maybe i should state i have never been in violation with the law on sleds. i have witnessed however the games the police/dec like to play. ive even witnessed a judge lay into an officer for his "tactics" to issue tickets to otherwise law abiding people. reason enough for me to continue on my merry way and not have to deal with them.

i dont know how the state expects a person to follow every nit picking law especially when some of them are as rediculous and arbitrary as some mentioned here. Some of you speak of common sense, well when the hell is the state going to get some common sense of their own.... how are we to take them seriously and obey the laws when the law in place sounds like more of a joke than anything? sorry but with my own personal experience with police/dec on the snowmobile trails its hard for me to take them seriously, its like the boy who cried wolf. Ill tell you why, while obeying a traffic stop one of my buddies was in the process of getting a ticket for a modified exhaust, and i was getting bitched at for not stopping AT the stop sign 30ft before the actual intersection burried in the brush and trees. meanwhile more sleds pull up and every single one of them had their johnny snocross fart can on their sleds and were asked to pull off to the side. they did, then after they all grouped up they took off before the officer made it over to check their sleds.. police/dec glance over see that they are taking off and go back to writing tickets for other "violaters" of the law. when asked why arent you going after them? their response was, " oh were not chasing anyone, we cant run the risk of a lawsuit if anyone gets injured, not only that they'd be so far ahead of us by the time we got are sleds started it wouldn't be worth it"..... i laughed in the guys face and told him, thanks for the headsup, looks like the next traffic stop ill just keep on keepin on. since then i havent gotten anymore tickets for the money hungry sobs in albany.

i wouldnt use it. ive got some year old doe estrus that doesnt smell ANYTHING like it did when i first broke the seal.

forgot about hinkley, another great place to hunt. friends house borders the state land there he sees bear regularly.

my plot has had a funk to it ever since it matured. the frosts seem to mask the scent but once it thaws its pretty potent.

cant wait for my buddy to cut the corn around my house. he just got a new combine, sucker cuts 18 rows in one pass... i believe its as big as you can get, its an IH. but anyway ive had my point of ambush picked out since he planted the fields and its going to be good because its the last corn standing for a few miles and i know the deer are in there.

there is a few state land areas along 365 and rte 49 corridors in rome and in marcy. can read up on those sites on dec website. they stock them with game birds. theres always brookfield and tassle hill in waterville 30mins away. might want to wear as much orange as humanly possible in those areas but they produce some good deer, or you can go north along rte 12 to state land. just saw a pic of a darn nice buck that got hit by a truck that died at a friends parking area to some land he hunts that is probably pushing 140 inches right in new hartford. they are out there, few and far between but they are there.

ive had 2 walk about 200ft away from me in my treestand on state land once, i was waving at them trying to get their attention but they never saw me lol. i was rather relieved they didnt see me, i spent the better part of the day selecting a stand spot and setting up, i wasnt really in the mood to deal with anything but the deer i was hoping to see.

last year or the year before i rattled a crap load of deer in, both blind rattling and bucks in eye sight. ranging from one beauty of a mature buck to a handful of year and a halfs. this year had no such luck. although i have been up close and personal with a lot of bucks this year and have come to the conclusion the "mature buck ring" on my grunt tube is spot on with a fawn grunt. now i know why grunting has never worked lol other than to stop one for a shot.

HAHAHA your kidding right??? all this talk about recruiting young hunters into the sport then everyone expects to get shot by the very youth they are trying to recruit and puts up a big fuss about it??? are we a bunch of hypocrites or what!! i understand the "law is the law" but nothing like making a perfectly capable 15 year old feel incapable and being coddled by society. my grandfather started logging when he was 16, made it a business when he was 18. you cant even step foot into a running sawmill until your 18 now. its just very sad the way things are headed in todays society, and a 15yo in a treestand during regular season is just another one of the many things thats wrong with this society.

honestly never heard anything about the youth hunt and it being dangerous for the youth....thats actually pretty funny, what i heard was how much it was going to screw up peoples bowhunting. why would it be ok to allow 2 kids to hunt alone during the regular season? pretty sure they werent alone thats why the 22 year old got the ticket because he was accompanying them, they were just in their own treestands and "youth" arent allowed in treestands during the regular season....thats where the law becomes a crock a bullspit. and im sorry but any 15 yo who wants to put forth the effort to hunt and take the HUNTERS SAFETY oughta be able to sit in a damn treestand if he so pleases.

i think the 22 year old kid hunting with the two 15 year olds is a BS violation oughta be thrown out IMO.

i built a 10ft platform thats 6' x 8' with conventional building materials and set a regular box blind on the top. the box blind is temporary until my buddy and i have the time to build the rest to make it a full blown insulated deer hut with heat. haha

i counted 14. had to pause the video a few times in certain spots to get a good count though

good lord cabin fever!! i dunno how you sleep at night knowing that bruisers out there. its gotta be rare to see a typical 6x6 plus brows on a whitetail, and one that symmetrical!! good luck!!

I think grow is reffering to the court case in said county that went in the way of the defendent who was accused of baiting. The court found the laws on baiting too vague and therfore unconstitutional somehow. Im not a lawyer and dont know how it was exactly put i dont have the material infront of me, but thats basically what i gathered from it. .... of course, peanut gallery, correct me if im wrong

Sounds like the landowner doesnt really care one way or the other who hunts his land. Im in a similar situation. Neighbors are 94 yrs old, land isnt posted people been hunting it for years with no permission. I have permission and have since made it clear to other hunters ive run across that i do, luckily they seem to be understanding and havent seen them since or had any sign of other people back there. So if it were me, and i was the only one with permission to hunt the land, id set my stand up wherever i wanted, regardless if those stands look like they are in use or not.
