  1. whats the difference, theyre already under ball and chain
  2. puppets, thats what they want us to be.
  3. i would just replace the stock/pistol grip and take the muzzle break off, and keep the rifle. then you dont have to register it at all. you can keep the original stock and the break and put them back on once hell breaks loose lol. screw new york any way you can, theyll do it to you.
  4. imo it looks as though your bucks neck is much thicker in the field than on the mount. since when does dr.phil hunt?
  5. your old deer there with the tall tines would be on my hit list. hes too unique to pass up IMO
  6. Your description for the morning sit can be directly applied to my area, 6p, 7j. Afternoon sit I heard 2 shots the entire time. Too warm maybe but I still saw the usual amount of deer, was tempted to take a doe.
  7. Here are trail camera photos of the buck i harvested. Kill photos and story can be found in the harvest thread. In total I have 21 pictures of him from the same camera from 11 am and 3 pm on the precious day before I took him. He was hot on a doe. He was said to be 4.5 maybe even 5.5 by the taxidermist. His skull plate was an 1/8 inch thicker than a known 3.5 he had at the shop, that and the brow tines being 5.5" and his ears being 8 to 9 inches long. So glad I was able to capture him on camera makes for a nice photo album of him on the hoof.
  8. So with having a job and only being able to hunt the weekends I decided to take today and the rest of the week off to finish out my bow season in hopes of getting a buck. I couldnt have asked for a more perfect morning with the snow and the temperatures. Got in my climber early, sitting there about 25 ft up freezing my you know whats off, i hear leaves and twigs snapping across the ravine behind me about 80 yds away. Already standing up in my climber trying to stay warm I turned around and saw a deers body, grabbed my binos, and as soon as i could get a good look through the trees i could see it was a decent buck. I grunted until he heard me, he stopped, made a hard right, headed down the ravine angling back towards me, finally he gets within eye sight so i draw back my bow, he crosses another creek bottom that dumps into the ravine and he decides to stop directly underneath my climber. i sat there at full draw for what felt like an eternity but realistically about 3 mins while he stood looking around. After nearly missfiring due to all the layers i was wearing i let off and turned around, snow falling onto his back off my boots and climber, he begins to walk up the steady slope of the ravine my stands at, still no shot, he begins to turn broadside up the hill so i started mewing, he stepped in an opening between a clump of trees, it was now or never. it all happened so fast, as soon as i thought he was stopped i drew back, put my bottom and middle pin where i thought the vitals were and let the arrow fly. he took off like a bat out of hell i could see i hit him right sqyare in the middle of his body. I watched him run back into the open bottom of the ravine and could no longer hear movement. i assumed he bedded down in the tall grass, so i waited about 15 mins, slowly made my way down the tree shaking like a leaf the entire time. went to where i made the shot and couldnt find a speck of blood, determined to find the start of his blood trail i went down to where i saw him jump the creek hoping that leap would produce blood and to my amazement i could see what i thought was his rack sticking above the grass, but i wasnt sure i thought maybe it was a log and some branches, but a closer look i could see his body through the grass. he had piled up right where i last heard him and caught a glimpse of him. turns out it was a 50yd shot, entered his right side through the last two ribs and made its way through his liver and both lungs and the opposite side of his rib cage only coming short of 100% pass through by the thickness of his cape. When i found him his front leg was tangled up in his rack. he was dead 20 seconds after i shot him. arrow stirred his inner workings pretty darn good. he is an anomaly of a buck for the area i hunt, the taxidermist who lives up the road is darn sure he is atleast 3.5 years old. he rough scored him at 130.5... ill take that any day of the week.
  9. bottom line guns dont kill people. people do. I dont think bans on "assault weapons" or "military style" guns is the answer at all. we dont need another law on the weapons themselves, we need a law in place for the PEOPLE that requires every prospective gun owner to pass a doctors physical with a mental health exam (FOR EXAMPLE), and for those reports to show up on a background check. Granted it still wouldnt help much in the case of Adam Lanza due to his mother being the gun owner in this situation. Personally, god rest her soul, i believe she is partly at fault for making these guns available to her son when she knew from early childhood that he was a wild card. Criminals will always have guns, but i believe some sort of mandate along these lines would definitely have more of an impact on these kinds of tragedies than banning the weapons themselves. It would also make me feel a lot safer knowing some skitzo cant walk into a herb philipsons and buy a rifle off the shelf no questions asked. <--- true story
  10. saw 6 tonight, all came out with about 15 mins left of legal shooting light. really glad to see that the 2 families ive been watching the whole summer and hunting season are still intact. but rather furious that as im closing the door on my hut in the dark at 5:02 i hear 2 shots close by. legal hrs ended at 4:26, not that id hesitate to take a deer 15 mins beyond that but 5pm is just nonsense.
  11. my woods look real squatchy, how bout yours?
  12. clearly.... you was in an.... accelerated classes. LOL extending time at school is NOT the answer, hell more progress would be made if they got kids off of facebook and twitter. Personally from my own experience in high school, we need to have more well rounded teachers that dont think going to college is the only answer to a successful career/lifestyle and stop trying to pump out Albert Einsteins and adding to our nations debt with kids going off to college with out a CLUE what they want to do and racking up tens of thousands of dollars in loans and debt. My high school completely neglected anyone who attended BOCES, we were treated different, not by students, but by the STAFF as if we were brain dead morons and doomed to be the rot in society once we graduated. Our technology dept was basically cut off from the school literally and figuratively and paid no attention to. Funny how technology is the facet of our everyday lives. Today in this economy, the "trades" is where your going to find work, good paying jobs and is whats going to help us out of this rut more than sending every kid off to college and into debt. Schools need to change their way of thinking and embrace the teachings that will allow some of its students a good career and a steady job and not these pipe dreams of "go to college get a degree". Ya, well I have my degree, I have $80,000 of students loans and cant find a job that doesnt require 5yrs experience or more degrees, while my buddy over here is making $120,000 a year straight out of high school working in the TRADES and can find work anywhere in the country even the world.
  13. ok so we get the "blaze orange" law passed....then i wear a flourescent yellow vest. do i get a ticket am i now a law breaker!? haha if it was mandatory for people to wear BO even walking their dog, id see a whole hell of a lot more of my old c-nile neighbor who likes to do hot laps around mine and his properties even though i have 2 foodplots, trail cams, and tree stands in plain site along with a huge hunting hut that i just built that he has to walk right past. no thank you, id rather not see him more than i already do.
  14. the post i quoted started with the word IF
  15. i used to think bucks were responsible for dropping logs like the one pictured here but ive actually seen doe produce the same thing. something ive learned this hunting season haha
  16. NYS just keeps getting better and better. This states a joke.
  17. just like with everything else, if this takes off and gains ground it will inevitably become more compact/ergonomic and user friendly. not only that but it will have COMPETITION. its in its beginning stages keep an open mind lol..... remember the brick-like cell phones?
  18. the growers around here actually rip up the corn and plant their stuff right in the row using the farmers fertilizer. One of my good friends has a rather large grain farm and owns/farms thousands of acres and he said if he really wanted he estimates he could double his current income with how much he sees combining.
  19. hey a few years ago a game farm that had exotic animals was broken into and some PETA enthusiast tree huggers let all the animals loose and for weeks there were reports of a kangaroo being seen along the nys thruway near canastota.... then my dad came home from work one day and said "hey guess what i saw on my way home from work?" yea... a damn kangaroo.
  20. lol i was thinking the same thing.... ive noticed a trend in my local jurisdictions its all the kids that got their balls busted in high school.
  21. i thought the DEC was going to reduce the distance you have to be from a dwelling to discharge a bow?
  22. i wonder the same thing. i dont think they care much with how much revenue they generate in certain instances.
  23. id tell them that you can be the best neighbor or the worst neighbor youve ever had....your choice! let them take the stand to hopefully never return. if they dont comply, dig in and be a bastard. if they do comply no reason you cant be friendly and maybe even keep each other posted on whats lurking in the woods and exchange some trail camera pics. if you come off overly aggressive, with my experience through other people, you end up with neighbors who go to measures to see that you have a miserable time at your camp. be straight forward but dont give them any reason to think that hostilities may occur because of the situation.
