    Calls

Chris B nailed it, my rattling set ups are all near or in thick nasty cover. That way a deer has to commit to investigate by sight in the thick cover. My opinion, if I had to choose between using scents or calls...I'm picking calls every time!
  2. 9F- Nice morning, light NW winds, no deer yet. I will give it to 11 then I am moving to a different stand on the south side of the property.
  3. Beautiful day today! Wish I was out there and wish everyone good luck. Get em!
  4. Sitting a new stand and the wind seems to blowing in every direction. Heard a buck grunting off in the distance before first light. Had a fork horn come down wind of me and seemed to get skidish, probably smelled some stink. I will continue to wait patiently...or maybe not.
  5. Hunting 9F and deer movement has slowed alot since last week. Hunted this morning and saw 1 doe cut across a field way in the distance. Hunting this afternoon along a brushy field edge, hoping they will move to eat. Only good news is I found this rub today about 75 yds from my stand.
  6. I have mine set to 1 pic and a 45 sec lapse between trigger reset. By the time the camera takes a pic and sends you that pic either by email or MSS is about 45 seconds.
  7. 9F; Pre - rut (Oct. Lull) Younger bucks continue to scent check and harass doe groups with doe having none of it. Have yet to see any mature deer during daylight hrs. Scrapes started appearing this past week and fresh rubs as well. My trail cams are seeing a lot of activity (day/night) these past 2 days but only doe, fawns, and young bucks.
  8. Very nice bucks, I have yet to see any real big bucks on my cams yet. Plenty of doe and small bucks, but no beasts. I am a bit discouraged.
  9. If you look around you can get the camera for $289, otherwise retail is normally $399. I will look for the link where I bought mine. The company I bought mine from had it drop shipped right from Covert. Had it within 2-3 days.
  10. Trying out my first Covert 3G AT&T Cell Cam. Awesome tool to add to your hunting arsenal. Love the real time info you receive on what's going on in your hunting area.
  11. Cold and calm winds in 9F, but no deer sightings yet.
  12. Looks like marks from a buck breading her...that's my guess.
  13. I shoot a single pin sight, I can shoot out to 40 yds no problem. From 0-40 yds, I am within a 6" diameter circle. I have my bow set at an 80# draw and use 100gr. Grim Reapers. I like the fact I can just draw and shoot.
  14. Sounds like you had an awesome hunt! Congrats on your hard work and dedication. Beautiful buck!
  15. Wow, sounds like a memorable experience and a great pair of bucks to boot. Congrats to both of you!
  16. Repost...but somebody was in the wrong all right, the shooter for sure. Target acquisition isn't rocket science. The four basic rules of operating any firearm: 1) always know the condition of your weapon (right on safety on) 2) muzzle integrity 3) know your target and whats beyond your target 4) do not point your weapon at anything you don't intend to destroy. We can go on and on with safety but safety is paramount. The guy shooting should have his license permanently revoked.
  17. I wouldn't use any other slug...period! For a slug gun, this ammo has increased my confidence in accuracy, range, and knock down power. Hard to find all three variables in other slug gun ammo.
  18. Congrats on a beautiful big buck, he sure looks like a slob.
  19. You couldn't even make this story up. Dumber then a bag of hammers. Should be prosecuted and thrown in jail and then start the civil suit.
  20. Just settled in for an evening hunt, I couldn't get out this morning. Hopefully they move this afternoon in 9f.
  21. Congrats, very nice buck.
  22. Nice job...sounds like a great morning.
  23. How far from where you shot the deer did you eventually lose site of him? How far have you now tracked him from the hit site or first sign of blood? Did you here the deer crash at all or did it just go quiet? What color was the blood, is it frothy or any small bubbles, is there a spray pattern, is it bleeding on one side or both sides of the deer? Has the deer beded down at all yet while tracking him? Did you recover your arrow? We need more info to assess the facts of your situation. With that being said, if I don't see the deer fall or here him crash. I am waiting a good 3-4 hrs or if you know you gut shot the deer up to 12-14 hrs till I track and recover.
