  1. During last season I had my camera hung in the woods at my job. During that time we had some tree companies coming in from the south to clear the power lines all over the state after the power outages. Well, they came to my job for a few days and I should have taken my camera down but I had kinda forgotten about it. Well I went to check it one day and it was gone. I thought I had misplaced it but when I examined the area I saw 2 D batteries on the ground and a bunch of mounts of toilet paper from where the 40 mexicans from the tree company were shitting in the woods. I tracked the manager down in my car and showed him the spot and told him he owes me $100 for the Primos Truth Cam and card. He talked to his guys and no one admitted to it but he made everyone cough up a few dollars and he gave me $100 in cash a few days later. Kinda glad because Primos Truth cam is probably the worst item I've bought in years so I was happy to spend the $100 on a covert.
  2. Yeah it's true about the common ground. Them and I talked and laughed (and drank spirits) for hours and it took 20 minutes to explain one little thing sometimes but it was really fun and in the end, we understood each other. That stag is a monster. He said it was the biggest ever shot in Slovakia but you know how hunters are. It had like 18 points. Sorry, my lady has no sisters haha
  3. haha I thought the same. That's what DIY taxidermy will get you when you first start out.
  4. A baby boar they found frozen to the snow while hunting. The deer is a Daniel.
  5. Pics of the cabin. Amazing place. They stuffed all the animals themselves.
  6. thanks for the suggestions, I like the flashlight and nice sling idea. I'll have to do some research. Dinsdale, after the wedding, he, his brother and his friends will take me hunting there or in Czech Republic. Funny part will be that they speak no English at all and I know maybe 20 words in Slovak so I'll have to learn to say "don't shoot" in Slovak. I'll post a few pics of my last trip there.
  7. I'm dating a girl from Slovakia and I'm visiting her in 3 weeks. We are going to a wedding of her friends, and the groom (whom I've met once and got along with great) is a big hunter and has an amazing cabin and has seemingly everything. I'd like to get him a gift for their wedding and since we have hunting in common, it'd be cool to bring him something to do with hunting from America, which he has never been. I know it's a long shot but, any ideas?
  8. also, I wonder what would cause the deer in the back to only have half a rack.
  9. A buddy of mine was driving last night about 1 mile down the road from where we hunt. He said a few nights previous he saw a massive buck but didn't have a camera so he took a ride last night. He saw 7 bucks but could only get pics of these 3 fellas. He said he saw two others that were bigger. This guy on the right is only a 6. I hope he makes it another year because he will be a monster next year, and because we are only shooting 8's or bigger this year. Sorry for the crap pic. It's a picture of a camera screen.
  10. damn man, nice. I haven't been able to find any yet. I just keep seeing those fleecy milk caps and some of those bolets. I'll have to try a different spot next time I go. Thanks for posting.
  11. I've been keeping my eye out for black trumpets but haven't any luck yet. I've never tried them either but I keep hearing great things.
  12. I haven't eaten the chicken of the woods at all yet. In the pic I posted, the stump it's growing out of is so old that I can't tell what type of tree it is. Maybe I'll leave that one. I read that when they are young like I posted, that pretty much the whole mushroom is edible. Only one way to find out!
  13. Spotted some more Chicken of the Woods today while I was at work. There's a dirt road lined with a bunch of big old maples and about 20' up in one of them I spotted the chicken. I'll have to be careful getting it because it is absolutely covered in poison ivy.
  14. Man, you hit the nail on the head with that I.D. That definitely seems to be what I've found. Damn! But I'm excited about the Chicken OTW and the Boletes, if they are in fact Boletes. Are they supposed to have a distinctive smell? These sure smelled good. Thanks a lot Predate.
  15. So I got the chance to search for mushrooms today for a few hours (and got paid for it wooooo) and I found what I am almost certain are young chanterelles, some chicken of the woods and possibly some two colored boletes although I'm not sure. The first 3 pics are of what I think are two-colored boletes. They smell awesome, like a really ripe sweet fruit. The second pic is the chicken of the woods which I am very excited about because they look awesome and I just happened upon them on the side of a quad trail. The last pic is two chanterelles I think. They smell awesome too; fruity like an apricot and I think I read that about them. Only think I was weary about is the color because they aren't yellow or orange, they are white or very slightly yellow but I read that the sun may have bleached them out. I was planning on letting them all grow and I'll check them in a few days.
  16. cool. Next time you're out could you snap a pic of some of the smaller chants? I found what appear to be chants growing but just can't identify them when they're so small. thanks
  17. Did you find any chanterelles yet? I need to get out and look but haven't had much free time. What type of forest do you typically find them?
  18. cool, that umbrella polyporus looks kind of like Hen of the Woods.
  19. I was thinking that the first pic I posted in the second post look like oysters but I wasn't sure enough to pick them.
  20. Hey guys. I've been out trail caming and also looking for mushrooms when I go check my cams. I've been noticing a ton of different mushrooms that I can't identify. Anyone have idea what any of these might be? Sorry that some are blurry.
  21. cool, I'll use them to make a fire next time I go camping and yeah, the other definitely looks like a fawn or deer mushroom. Thanks for the info.
