  1. I use Firefox and my security settings wouldn't let me on the site since Friday. It said links on this site have been known to unknowingly install Malware. I had to register at a different hunting site. lol. It works with no problems today though.
  2. Thanks fellas. My spot is a stand on private land in a swamp and it's pretty thick. But i have opportunities to hunt other spots. I think I'm set on buying the Bushnell 1.75-4x32 http://www.amazon.com/Bushnell-Banner-1-75-4x32-Shotgun-Riflescope/dp/B0000A0AGP/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1286849540&sr=1-2 I can keep it on low power until I need the higher power. Plus it has 6" of eye relief which is nice with a 12ga shooting 3" slugs.
  3. It looks like you can't during shotgun season. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/45559.html
  4. no rifle hunting for deer at all in Dutchess. Only Muzzleloader/bow after gun season.
  5. great deer! Very nice! I hope I can get one like that one day.
  6. In Wingdale and I have a spot in Millbrook (really my buddy's spot but he'll let me tag along). Is there any good state lands to hunt in Hopewell?
  7. Yeah they like free food. I have a buddy up near Dykeman's farm that sees one freguently too.
  8. Cool thanks. I just bought the Nitros because I saw them and they were 10 for 8 bucks. I didn't really do any research on them. I'll probably try another brand next time.
  9. Wondering where people have had success hunting on state land in 3G (Dutchess). Thanks.
  10. Today I printed two turkey heads on my computer and went and hung them on a board, went back 42 yards with my Mossberg 500 and 3" #4 Nitro Turkey loads and got a pretty good pattern. One I hit 13 times in the head/neck region and the other I got 12 pellets in the head/neck region. How many is considered a kill shot when sighting the gun in?
  11. Care to share your experiences a bit and where you went for deer? I have my small game needs covered and I do have a few sports on private land to hunt big and small game but I'd like to try some state land for deer and turkey as well. I appreciate it thanks.
  12. Any recommendations on state land to hunt in Dutchess County?
  13. haha. good thing it was boxers and not tighty whities!
  14. A lot of bear sightings in Dutchess County this summer. We had a bear in our yard (we think it was this same bear) every week for a month. I was in my underwear one morning eating a yogurt and saw this bear walk past my window, my jaw dropped; he was huge. He passed by my chickens and into my driveway heading into the neighbors yard. I dropped my cup and ran out the door into my car for my camera and tripod. The bear pulled down the neighbors sapling to feed on the bird feeder. I stopped about 40 feet from him and snapped a few pics, then went inside to call the neighbor. On my way back outside the bear heard the door shut and ran towards my driveway where my camera was. I was scared. I picked up a rock and chucked it at him and he freaked and bee-lined parallel to my yard into the other neighbors yard. I heard a Mexican lady screaming someones name, which i though was her kid's name. She was crying frantically and I figured the bear had gone near her kid. I was about to get my gun but I went into her yard and saw the bear leaving coming back towards me and my house. I ran inside and the neighbor called from down the street and said it was her dog she was screaming to, not her kid. We saw the bear the following weekend buy haven't seen it since. Stunning animal and seemed very docile while feeding. Just thought I'd share.
  15. I bought a pack of Remington 3" Nitro Turkey loads and tried them out today through my Mossberg 500 12g with Primos turkey choke. I was getting good groups at 40 yards with roughly 60% of the pellets hitting within a 10" circle. These are the only loads I've used as I'm new to hunting. What do you use and with what choke?
  16. cool thanks. Any recommendations in the same ballpark price?
  17. Thanks I was wondering about that. So you have this? http://www.amazon.com/Bushnell-Banner-Dusk-1-5-4-5x32-Riflescope/dp/B0000A0AGO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1286848201&sr=8-1 Is 4" eye relief on a 12ga shotgun enough?
  18. Hello folks! First time hunter here. I'm going to hunt in Dutchess County which is shotgun/muzzleloader territory. I bought a Mossberg 500 12ga combo (cantilever rifled slug barrel and field barrel) a few months ago. It came with a 2.5x20 scope and I would like a higher powered scope. Recommendations? This is the best that I've came across yet. http://www.bushnell.com/products/sco...banner/713947/ Bushnell 3-9x40 with 6" eye relief. Any experiences? I want to spend around $75.
