  1. FYI, per NY DEC August 5th they will be available.
  2. Hi folks, when do the 2015-16 license go on sale? Thxs FT
  3. You didn't Dave, my comment was to the reply to my original post. I guess some are confused or just don't understand the positive impact fracking has made on oil/gas prices in the USA.
  4. I agree Dave. But to say that the fracking done in the USA has not pushed down the gas prices we are now experiencing was a stupid statement.
  5. Really????? LOL Why is OPEC trying to kill fracking????? LOL
  6. I sure all the anti-fracking folks are crying when they fill-up with the cheaper gas now available because of the fracking going on around the country. Just sayin'.
  7. Skillet, you done good...congrats.
  8. Doc, can't say it any better. FO saves lives...that's a FACT. I know I want to live to hunt another day...don't we all?????
  9. No coincidence at all...because nearly all NY hunters wear FO. Listen, I'm a visitor to NY...you folks decide what you want/need, I'm very thankful to visit and enjoy the NY outdoors. Stay safe! FT
  10. Monday (the opener) we had about 6-8 inches on the ground. We lost a lot with last nights rain.
  11. Which is it??? One sentence protect us...the other don't protect us. Can't have it both ways. Since PA has gone with mandatory FO...the number of "mistaking for game" accidents dropped like a rock. Coincidence?????
  12. My son bagged a 6pt yesterday afternoon....during a whiteout. His smile tells the story.
  13. FO is mandatory here in PA during rifle and nobody really complains. It's government job to protect it's citizens with laws...FO DOES protect hunters. I would say it is rare (when hunting NY) that I see any hunters w/o blaze orange. And 1/2 hr before & after sunrise/sunset is a great time in the woods. DO IT.
  14. Biz, the problem is with PA state officials' not the PGC. The Pa Farm Bureau is the real reason...they don't want it. Listen, non residents can voice their opinion too. If more folks would ask for Sunday hunting, it will happen. Good luck today....stay safe.
  15. Fletch, most deer are harvested because someone pushed it into a stand hunter...and that's great. Nothing wrong with a good old fashion deer drive, that's how things were done years ago. Today, many like the "one on one" method...that's OK too. But nothing brings home the bacon like a deer drive ( builds camaraderie too ). Lot's of ways to skin a cat....no????
  16. With 50ty years under my belt I got one thing to say: Best time to shoot em' is when you see em'. And that has happened at every hour of the day. Morning & evening normally is good when deer are un-pressured. But I never shot one when I wasn't in the woods.
  17. happens...don't let it ruin your life. If you can report them...do it, you'll feel better.
  18. Who's crossing over to Pennsy tomorrow? Good luck to those that pay a visit. I have a lot of snow on the ground for the opener. This will make things super quiet, so eye's in the back of your head will help tomorrow. Well it sure will let a few sneak by and that's a good thing too.i I just watch the best trails from past experiences and if a few sneak behind me...so be it. Two opening days...I'm in heaven (and I got a few doe tags to boot), lol. Be safe. FT
  19. Win94 .32Spl harvested my 1st deer...boy I wish I never sold that gun.
  20. BigV, sounds like someone was target shooting. At this stage I doubt that many guys are in the woods hunting for 36 rounds fired at spike. Just sayin.
  21. I'm not sure when the DEC program began but it end in 2002. I started hunting a TMR about 1980. Like I said, what a great place to hunt when DEC ran the program. IMO, the BSA sold out the public hunter for the almighty dollar when they started with private leases to surrounding hunting clubs. It left a bitter taste in my mouth and my payroll deduction to the BSA stopped too. Oh well, nothing new in todays world.
  22. Any of you folks remember the Ten Mile River boy scout camp in Sullivan county?? I was crushed when the BSA stopped working with DEC to allow the public to access the camp. This was hands down the best parcel I have ever hunted in NY. I can only wish that was still open to the public.
  23. I hunt deer to eat them. I butcher my own deer and the damage done when hit in the hind quarters is amazing. I think if hunters see what a high powered bullet does to a thin skinned deer, their shot placement choices would change.
  24. Well, I guess I am not the only one having a problem with accessing this SF, lol.
  25. I will still hunt when conditions are right. I won't when the area I'm hunting has too much "orange" around, lol. As has been noted, the conditions need to be right. When deer have been pressured, this method is very difficult. This 1st week in the Hancock area has had ice coated leaves and I haven't found out how to "pussy foot" quietly in these conditions. Still hunting (IMO) is the most rewarding way to harvest a deer.
