  1. Well imo, the name of the show is glorifying the Japs and as such I will never attend. Too many young US men and women died in the Japs cowardly act. Change the name and maybe more folks would attend. Just my opinion.
  2. Talk about poor taste...this show should be boycotted by everyone. Anything to make a buck. One reader states : "Id much rather see a recreation or Hiroshima and Nagasaki." https://www.timesleader.com/news/724...r-re-enactment Just a few days before Veterans Day, Pocono Raceway has announced it will bring a day that will live in infamy to life at the Long Pond track. The track announced in a press release and on its website on Thursday that it will host an air show on Aug. 24 and 25 in 2019. As part of that show, there will be an historic re-enactment of the attack on Pearl Harbor. A group calling itself Tora! Tora! Tora! will preform the re-enactment. It will feature 61 pyrotechnic features, including a 2,000-foot wall of fire and up to 12 aircraft. The surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, drew the United States into World War II and killed 2,335 American military personnel.
  3. Does a deer with CWD get to look like that???
  4. Here in PA it's 1/2 hour before & after sun rise/set. When in NY the evening is ok but sunrise is different animal. I hear lots of shoot before legal time. And each day can be so different with cloud cover and when snow is on the ground. I'll refrain from stating if I ever shot before or after when in NY, lol. FT
  5. As long as the Sun rises, I will be a happy hunter. FT
  6. Here in PA any legal buck I'm taking. I only hunt open, public land and pickens are slim. And after 50 yrs of hunting I still can't determine a deer's age nor its genetic make-up when viewing it for the first time. I guess I'm just a slow learner. FT
  7. I hunt in 4W on public land and have seen less deer (and hunters) since AR implemented. But being from PA I can say that AR does produce bigger bucks than before AR. One problem I have experience in both PA & NY is verifying number of points. Many times I see antlered bucks but they're gone before I'm sure about points. I can live with or without AR, but AR does let the bucks get older and produce larger racks...why wouldn't it? FT
  8. Hunted yesterday in AR unit and had a spike buck walk by me. He only had one horn (5-6 inches), so some are starting to drop I guess.
  9. Imo, I agree head shots are not the best option a hunter should use. But, just because the jaw was hit doesn't mean that's where the person aimed. Some folks are just plain bad shots and also consider bullet deflection. Lot's of things can go wrong when you pull the trigger. Many years ago a nervous nelly friend harvested his first deer (doe) and dropped it in it's tracks. He could find the bullet hole in the shoulder where he aimed. He whacked the the deer in the eye....lights out. He couldn't believe he hit the doe in the eye. ??????
  10. I agree with the reason listed, bad idea. Deer populations are control doe harvests but you can't have SF rules either. Another problem would be enforcement. If you know that certain area has low numbers, hunting somewhere else is probably your best bet. We have the same issues in PA with the SGL system.
  11. I hunt 4W and it looks like a dry 5 hours, good luck folks.
  12. I have a large black golf umbrella, which I drilled the tip and snaked some heavy picture wire to form a small circle (2 " dia). I use some small dia rope attached to the wire circle and hang from a tree limb. Golf umbrella is easy to remove and has great coverage to keep me dry.
  13. Thxs for sharing??????????????????????????????????????? WT?
  14. I always have and always will hunt where the best deer sign is........2 miles in or 200 yards, it really doesn't matter.
  15. Saturday benefits the folks with no or limited vacation...so I'm fine with that. Reading the replies it appears the camp hunters preferred Monday which is understandable. I'm retired so it does matter to me Sat or Mon. If a Sat opener gets more hunters into our sport then I feel all hunters win.
  16. A bolt action for me....very strong and dependable. BTW, what do our military snipers use???
  17. Yikes...nobody hunts PA???? Come on over. FT
  18. All who cross over to PA to deer hunt, non-resident doe permits are accepted Monday 7/18...one week early this year. Only 2F, 2H and 2G are in low supply. Good luck. FT https://www.pa.wildlifelicense.com/deeravail.php
  19. Doc, only in the northern hemisphere...the southern hemisphere is the complete opposite. But I think you know that, right?
  20. I don't roam the NY woods as much as here in PA, but my limited hunting in NY (6 days) told me by the deer sign that numbers are down where I hunted. The last two winters were long and deep snow, we had significant fawn losses around me (NE PA). NY had super deep snow last late OCT if I remember correctly...pretty stressful on a 5 month old fawn.
  21. Thxs G-man, I better bring lot's of lead and powder....just sayin'.
  22. Since you won't show us horns....how about a look at his teeth??? IMO, no more than 2 1/2 maybe 1 1/2...not much muscle in the hind quarters. Come on, show us those spikes!!
  23. Thank you folks. Will be out tomorrow, hoping for colder temps.
  24. So you can use your regular unused buck tag and the muzzy tag...allowing 2 deer either sex?
