You can't glean the level of detail with a short survey, plus the opportunity cost in retail would be enough that there'd be major pushback from retailers. DEC contracts it out, pays Cornell, and done. No trying to re-negotiate license vendor agreements. The survey I took, which looking at it the deck, was around 2010. It was several pages long with alot of questions. -
I need to start charging for my opinions, lol. I get alot of PMs on this stuff, but always happy to offer any advice I can. G_M one of the limitations of the cam is its delay, but there are directions to get it down to ten seconds if it doesn't have that option on the cam. They are floating on the internet. You have to press some combination of buttons, but it'll do it. As I said, it's not the world's best cam, but for the cost, its a great entry into the black flash market and it has reliable performance. I have found this cam to be a pretty good cam to mount up higher and angle down. I suspect the sensing on this cam is more cone-like than plane-like, which can really reduce a cam's ability to detect game when mounted high at an angle.

Costly at the license counter. Put it this way, even town clerks are refusing to sell licenses now...to the point they've been docked pay or demoted. I know everyone wants their two cents in, but that's not realistic. We can't even handle voting for a President efficiently. -

Someone did get it from this site, they even posted a photo of the survey. I think they got it before it even made the news IIRC. I ended up getting one, but I can't remember if it was this most recent one or not. I do remember there was information on how they sampled the population to get a random sample that was reliable and valid. Can't remember for the life of me how they explained it though. What I do remember was that there was a ton of questions on the front end about where I hunt, the breakdown of time in the field, public, private, landowner, how I got access, etc. Those were there to ID the variable so they could factor in weighting appropriately. Then it went into sentiment and rating potential changes. I felt like I went through a marathon afterwards. It was alot of Qs. Actually thought it was too many at one point, but after taking a break and looking at my answers, I could connect the dots why they asked what they did. -

OBR has worked in those states to produce quality bucks and a quality hunting experience...older age class buck harvest structure as a result. Ohio is similar based on alot of data points. Similar hunter density, similar wide spectrum of soil quality (our NZ/SZ line is comparable to their NE/SW line). Similar ag productivity, similar forested %. Ohio has much better deer hunting on a macro level. -

Everyone wants to be loved. Me me me. They see 7,000 and think there is no way possible to get an accurate gauge on the sentiment of the hunting community in NY. No way possible. Not at all. Never a chance. I must surmise that these same people that feel this way know more about survey methodology, stats, and analytics than Cornell University's SRI. It's not like it's one of the leading institutes in the freaking world or anything. Nor does it have experts educated from other top world-ranking colleges...like Stanford, Beijng Normal, or University of Chicago... People are literally whining about the brightest minds in the industry working on this. I just don't get it. -
Welcome to my world. Suuuuuuccccckkkkkkks. Westfall won't get widened at all, they just widened it a year ago. Houses are backed right on top of the road now. You should have seen me on the days I left early to get in the stand. I'm sure there are random people telling stories about "this one time a crazy guy cut me off..." and it's probably me driving on those days.

It's not about killing two bucks at all, that's the thing many people don't seem to grasp with OBR. 5k hunters in NY take a second buck on average. Statistically miniscule. What it does is change the cultural thinking of hunters while still giving them authority to choose any size buck. Alot of hunters whack the first buck and then "hold out for a biggun." Most times the biggun never materializes and all that's left is a 1.5 dead. OBR tends to hold many hunters back from shooting that first buck they see in the stand and hunters often end up making sure the buck they get is what they really want because that's all their going to get that season. It's worked well in Ohio and Kentucky. Sure, I always like a second buck tag opp, but when staring down the barrel of AR, OBR jumps out as a pretty good way to age the bucks in the herd without taking away the right to shoot any buck, you just can't shoot two, lol. -

That's kind of misleading. Short of explicitly reducing the ability to take 1.5s, such a statement could be made about any state model. Just as many states that have AR or OBR, don't have AR or OBR. That's spin language being used imo. At the end of the day, if there's no rule outlawing the take of 1.5s, the hunters are the variable that cannot be calculated into a model. They pull the trigger. This goes back to educate vs. legislate. -

Not the same issue...very few outlets sell them. Those that do...sell an issue thats combined and isnt the same as the biweekly edition. basically, its a combo of two issues with some stories left out and thus not nearly as timely. -
While it might be somewhat helpful, they sell cams. Conflict of interest. Better to get info from users at chasing game or slay cam.

Have to assume theyll figure out something. Watch them subtract the regular license price from each tag issied vs what was paid. Thatll result in alot of people not getting their money back though. Other question is where that money would come from. Was under impression the state couldnt tap the funds once paid and simply operates on interest/residual. -

Tail wagging dog issue. Thatll get sorted out and im sure someone will get a shaft on some level. But i dont think the majority of license holders are lifetimer holders. -
It was supposed to be Oct. But there had to be a serious mistake made because there was alot of heavy machinery work to prep the ground. Id say its getting pretty close. Have to think its within next 60 days or so based on where it stands constructions wise.

The really stupid one to me is looking at AR for bow and the first week of gun. I cant understand the rationale behind that one at all. -

Don't know much about the '14 model other than the impression that the line was a minor setback over the '13 model. If I remember correctly it had to do with the reduced capabilities for the camera to adjust its properties to take pics. Their black flash needs work though imo. Covert deals might be a little later this year. New models will trickle out in April-ish. I would suggest reaching out to the smaller online dealers to ask for better pricing than what is listed. A phone call can often net a savings. wingsupply, camo-online, macks prarie wings, custom1, fifeiled feed and seed (spelling?) etc. are ones to keep an eye on. MP8 Black is a good cam to get into Black flash. Black 60 is a better all around performer, but more money. The spypoint deal is pretty good for a black flash cam at Gander that I mentioned.

Yeah, and we'll be loads of candy and snacks for the food cart for my department. We just blew $1,200 at Sam's. It would be much better spent at Cosco.

That's it, you get to run Stealth and Wildview cams next season. (not a good thing)

It sucks. Why does it suck? Because I work about 600 feet from there and the traffic is going to be an abomination of mass proportion compared to now. And, the current traffic situation is about as enjoyable as being forced to watch Rosie O'Donnell with my eyelids taped open. As a company, they're freaking awesome. Highest paid employees in their segment, CEO willing to state on record that he'll sacrifice profits to the shareholders shagrin to provide a quality experience for employees and customers alike. I'm still going to yel m$th!r f*c&er at the darn place 5-10 times a week, though.

2013 BTC 2 has a pretty large following in the game camera enthusiast market. I have one and got it for $60. It's an interesting cam. I'm NOT a big fan of red IR and this cam is one that shows me why. It is very bright. It does take pretty good pics as a result, but I see bucks look at it more often as a result. I think the two series delay options (standard or burst) are too far on either end of the spectrum - way too fast or way too slow. MP wise... I run mine on the 4MP. The higher setting tends to result in pixelation and blur. It is horrible in heavy canopy for summer use. I had a Covert Black 60 and the BTC-2 in the same woods about 60 yds apart this summer. Super super heavy canopy. I can undestand why the cams both had trouble dealing with it, but the BTC2 pics were absolute worthless. The Covert I could make out details and do some editing to get the info I needed. Battery life is pretty good on it; again not quite as good as Covert, but no complaints from me on it. The latches are a little too tight to use easily and make a bit of a pop, but the overall case design is a freaking tank - I really think it is well made. The cams seems to adjust exposure to take some pretty good pics at times. Seems random, but you can get some pretty impressive shots once in a while. If I had a fleet of these, I wouldn't be unhappy. I'd have to use wisely to account for the canopy situation in summer and probably mount high exclusively. Having said that, the 2014 models are generally considered to have taken a step back. I also think their black flash isn't up to par yet with other manufacturers. Its a new company. Cams seem to have been made on the same factory line as Moultrie in 2013. Don't think that was the case in 2014 as I believe Moultrie used a different manufacturer to make their cams and it bit them in the butt. Is yours a 2014 model?

People start getting them as early as the Monday/Tuesday before the Friday issue date. Don't ask me how I know, because I know, lol.
