  1. You are welcome for the advice. I wouldn't be worrying about genetics on 15 acres. A nice video cam will help you age a buck much better than a pic cam. Cam prices come May are going to be silly because there's not much old stock left and new cams will have been on the market for a month or two. I'd be buying between now and end of Feb at the absolute latest.
  2. Cam price went back up, so the deal is pretty much done.
  3. Here's a cam, if someone was solely looking for value right now (as in, putting the money down) and was trying to stretch the value... http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Spypoint-Eclypse-5-0-MP-Black-LED-Game-Camera&i=726167 Black flash, decent cam, very cheap for the price. The cost could mean getting an extra cam or two based on your $150 per cam limit. You can find coupons codes online for even more money off. I have owned and used these cams and believe they'll work well for your needs. This cam loses its value at the normal price but is a bargain at the current rate. Covert's black flashes are really really good. They are about as true of a black flash as you can get without paying ALOT more money. The MP6 or MP8 Black lineup is good. The Black 60 is really the best overall cam on the market in my opinion. That's not to say it's not infallable, but the cam takes great video, good nighttime pics, and battery life is best on the market at the moment. The MP6/MP8 Black (darn near same cam, small tweaks in the 8 model), is good for pic mode. It's not a cam where video is desired. If I were you, I'd probably look into buying one Covert Black 60 and then buying a couple of these linked Spypoints above. The Spypoints would be good for general use and the Black 60 can be deployed to get more info on bucks - ie over a scrape and set on video to see just how good that buck is.
  4. I always think the beetle ones come out better. There's no proof, but they always just look like better euros at the end of the day.
  5. I have to assume the outfitter wanted those deer dead. The policy was paid out most likely, and there's nothing good that could come from these deer being free. As said, if one were to hit a car...liability. They probably were hopeful that they were shot by hunters if not recovered alive and well, which was probably low odds. This might be the most realistic best case scenario for everyone.
  6. Their pics are all over the internet too. These bucks were so big, people took pics of them and posted online, seeing them driving on the roads home.
  7. The high fence place had three bucks let loose when a tree fell on the fence...so it wasn't the only one that was shot. All three were based on the reports I read. So, to single out the kid seems like a bit of crappy reporting for this article.
  8. Just looked into it; CVA does make a quick pull for the wolf. Sold via Cabelas, etc. $25-30 for it to shoot BH209. http://www.cabelas.com/product/CVAreg-Replacement-Quick-Release-Breech-Plugs/1595408.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch%2F%3FN%3D10000047%26Ne%3D10000047%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dcva%2Bbreechplug%26Ntx%3Dmode%252Bmatchallpartial%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts%26WTz_st%3DSearchRefinements%26form_state%3DsearchForm%26search%3Dcva%2Bbreechplug%26searchTypeByFilter%3DAllProducts&Ntt=cva+breechplug&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products
  9. Doesn't cva make a quick pull designed for bh209?
  10. Theres alot of deals with the holidays that i would spring on now. Covert makes some great models. Spypoint has another cam line that seems to work well. How much money do you want to spend per cam? The time to buy cams is really this week or jan and feb you may find a line on sale. Come spring...prices are never "bargain"....
  11. Your ir filter is stuck. Wrap cam in towel and rap with a rubber mallet to try to free it. If that doesnt work you may be able to disassemble and free it.
  12. The wgi nano 8 is a blackflash cam. lets not kid ourselves...its wgi. But its cheap small and has decent reviews. Its on sale for 112 with extra battery pack and batteries there but dicks and amazon have it for 97 to 99. Theres a 25 off 100 coupon online good til xmas eve. Theres also a 30 mail in rebate you can grab at dicks or wgis site. F and s will match the dicks price if you show them it on your phone. bottom line price is 45 bucks after all said and done.
  13. Being in NYC, acting classes are pretty cheap.
  14. Sorry Law, I derailed this a bit. I really like the idea of a coffee table photo album as noted. Maybe collect all of the pics of you and your family and get one done up. Not super expensive, but super meaningful.
  15. At the very least you are with a girl with small hands. That's like fatherly advice 101 there.
  16. This thread is so entertaining. I equate the NYC people who hunt to the hipster movement...you know the beard, moustache, with tight jeans, flannel, boots. Look the part, and might even want to be, but even if they are, are really outsiders looking in on a great party. Different strokes, for sure, and I understand that. There's just a line that needs to be held. I suit up several times a week and my employer could easily be located in NYC. But, everyone also knows I kill things and eat them. I might look stylish, but they also know I am a man.
  17. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
  18. Don't know how this post escaped me as this is the first time Ive seen it, but we did have a blast this season, despite it being much tougher going for the bigger bucks. For once, I was spoiled with many of the encounters. Admittedly, some of them were luck, and some by design based on our skills/logic. A couple royal screw-ups don't help, but that's part of what makes it fun.
  19. Multiple bucks have been shot within feet of that deer from the same stand. Interesting spot that we can take advantage of.
  20. As much as i understand your point, i disagree. Just because its darker doesnt mean it should be avoided.
  21. Moog should have killed him. Dreaming about steak and eggs got us off the stand 15 minutes before he showed up one morning and then Moog probably could have shot him at last light, leaving that same stand in the pic setup...encountering him at another scrape on the way out. Buck stood there laughing at Moog since he knew Moog didn't have his release on. Here's a day shot of him attached. Still not as bad as my screw up this year, but hey, it makes me feel better, lol.
  22. Valid question. But I don't think that impacts the legal decision making process. This spot here, you can pretty much shoot any direction and be safe. It's a bottom and no real way to put others in danger other than a random sky shot.
