All things being equal, it is as bad as it gets for light and that's the point I was making. If that setup was 100s SE, it'd be much brighter at that same date and time. I don't think there's a darker place I could be on any property I hunt at that time and date.

Nah. Just symptomatic of today's reality. Press ahead or be left behind. I have 60 to 65 employees in my structure and a cost center of several million. Getting away is only had when leaving the country or cell phone range.
-
Actually when I'm not focused on the act of hunting I'm usually thinking about work or home life. At one point i hired an employee from the stand last month. Idle mind usually leads me to not staying on stand or in the woods.

I think that would break the law, lol.

I give you credit, you stick to your guns. When in a room and everyone says I'm the idiot, at least I am smart enough to know I am wrong or may likely be looking at something wrong. I'd be really stupid if I didn't realize it after they tell me such. Rarely is the room wrong and the individual right - it happens in certain situations, but I don't think this is one of them sir.

I'd proabbly weigh your opinion more if you were able to read numbers. 6:22...or 6:41? Making the 30 minute rule change topic valid. Thus, not a troll thread.

Good added info there. Shot is going into the bottom. Little to no chance to hit anything/anyone if a shot goes awry.
-
See attached pic. Sunrise for that spot was 7:10 a.m. Would you shoot? Would you shoot if the 30 minute before sunrise rule was law (making this legal)? This spot is about as BAD as it gets for late light in the a.m. It is a narrow valley bottom with three sides going uphill within 75 or fewer yards blocking alot of light.

Diamond isn't a brand many people really talk about since its simply a main line bow that Bowtech bleeds technology into after it has been on their flagship pro shop bows. That doesn't make it a bad bow brand, but just one not alot of people get into. My wife has a razor edge and likes it.

Other than zen-like desires, thinking about why rationalizations are what they are....there's nothing good that can come out of trying to determine why we hunt. It's unproductive. I want a return on my time. I already know I hunt and I like it; therefore i put my time toward making me happy. Think about if we were to change the topic to "sex." And, please understand me that I am trying to keep this PC, but it is a relative example. Thinking about why I like it is way less productive than putting my efforts into going to the bars to pick up chicks, or working out to reel 'em in, etc. (example as I am married)

The right answer is "Who needs to work the bolt? The deer is dead."

Pro-Gun, Anti-NRA

Not sure I follow. If they are a hunter, they are a hunter. Hunt for food, meat, antlers, etc. Not sure there's a new type of hunter. People can like the by-products of hunting...the "getting out there" the "enjoying nature" and so on and so forth, but to hunt means you seek to kill. A foodie hunter kills deer. A rack chaser kills deer. Never knew there were types or buckets other than what people make up in their head to rationalize agreeance or disagreeance. What are they going to do differently if they are not welcomed? Quit? Not so sure that would happen. What's that saying, the pussification of America? -
You guys discuss this kind of crap too much. "Why?" is a question that humankind has sought to answer in nearly everything. I get that. Instead of thinking about why I hunt...I'm thinking about which bucks made it through the season and what's the strategy to get them next fall? I'm looking at maps. I'm thinking, maybe an Ohio trip is in order for a late season bowhunt? I'm thinking I might need some new rain gear this off-season. Ain't nobody got no time for thinking about why I hunt.

Pro-Gun, Anti-NRA
phade replied to Curmudgeon's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I do not belong to the NRA. I met a gentleman, about the same age as I am, who worked at the national headquarters (near DC). He did not know I was a hunter or gun owner and never asked, and he was pretty blatant about saying what he did for the NRA and that he was at their HQ. He was fairly materialistic and open about what kind of money he makes. All of this around a dinner table at a wedding in the Finger Lakes. Then the guy proceeded to act like a fool. I won't get into details, but I wasn't the only one who had that impression as it was vocalized. It was foolish, ass-clown behavior that was borderline someone knocking his lights out and nobody would care if it happened. In fact, he deserved it. While I like to think of myself as a somewhat educated middle class person, I can be pretty backwoods at times. This behavior was a new low for me to see in such an environment. I have zero problem with him acting a fool if one can deal with the consequences of your own reputational hit. But, I have a concrete problem with him doing that and being very blatant about representing the NRA (passing out business cards even). I sent the group a letter explaining such and the guy still works there 5 years later in a rather high position. I can't put money into a group that sees value in someone of that mentality. -
How many days do you hunt during deer season? How far do you travel to hunt?
phade replied to Dave's topic in General Hunting
I know a guy in banking/finance who lives and works in South FL. Bought a farm in IL and goes up there for two weeks to hunt every year (he's up there more in summer to prep). He has a house on it and it's fancy as can be. Said it's more fun to have those two weeks than an entire season locally. He does zero hunting in FL. He'll retire up there though. Another guy in FL in same industry does nothing in FL hunting-wise but spends two straight weeks in KS on a lease he bought into. That's it. Probably spends less money than many to hunt. I often wonder if something like that would work for me. I'd want to be around my property more, but maybe they're onto something. -
Wonder how long before we see these used?
phade replied to Culvercreek hunt club's topic in General Chit Chat
I really want to get one for scouting and recovery purposes. Trails, beds, escape routes, etc. I've heard of stories of guys renting helicopters to go after big bucks that they had shot but not recovered. I forget the rich guy that xbow hunts in Ohio and shot one marginally, and then rented a heli and found it right away in a swale field dead. Said he likely wouldn't have found it otherwise. Some people will complain about it, but whatever. Change is hard for some people. -

It didn't feel like it but I was in the woods on more than 30 days this year with weapon in hand after deer. Drove around a fair amount to properties, but all within an hour or so tops. Used to be much more money and time when I would hunt Ohio regularly. -
That's a tough one. In all honesty, I probably would have shot her if I felt she was going to die and dealt with the consequences if I couldn't find a tag or an officer willing to let the spirit of the law be considered rather than the letter. The other half of me would have wanted to see if she could be brought back to health to fight another day. Even as a hunter you have to respect a deer's will to live and endure hardship. Good job on trying to do the right thing.

I wish I had that stamina.

Must have new limbs or decals since that is the new Elite logo. Z-28 is a great bow. Great bow.

Nice late season buck!

I've seen this a lot in winter time. Noticeable in snow.
