First shed buck of the season = injured?

looks like backstraps...lucky it didn't hit anything solid. Probably one of those deals where the deer drops and the hunter thinks he got it only to watch it jump up and run away... -
Agreed, but the premise was starting a company of some sort. I guess this is outside the bounds of the question.

Although a small amount and probably even a smaller amount for what I'd want to do... I'd start a small scale venture capital business. I have enough smart people around me that I could leverage their expertise to ID winners, give them a sweat equity stake into the investment and then play it out. That way, I could relatively speaking, maintain my current employment and have the business work for me. If it doesn't pan out, it doesn't pan out. VC is usually micromanaged, but the key would be IDing the ones where minimal or realistic management would be plausible. Hit on one or maybe even two if super lucky...and everyone involved will benefit.

The manufactured variants have come a long way. I'm sure there's alot to be said with building your own, but I think the cost/benefit analysis is starting to be more even with manufactured options. Especially if looking for mobile options that can be moved to another property should the lease fail.

My guess is that air density might be a factor. How much I don't know...good question and interesting one too.

I have a few of the Crossfire line...their bottom one. I really like them. The ONLY complaint I have on my crossfire scope is that the adjustment knob, while fuild, requires more pressure to move - at least more than I am used to and more than I prefer. The glass itself is very nice...from the scopes to the binos. Hard to believe this stuff is china made...it's pretty good quality. There's some edge burn/clarity, but I've looked at similar priced lines (VX-1, Redfield's USA model Revolution, etc.) and there's no difference in the amount/degree. In fact, I returned a NIB VX-1 for the scope...and also the Redfield binos for the Vortex models. Moog and WNYBuckhunter have some of the higher line models.

That grow and the fact wnybuckhunter was told he was given radish and got ptt a few years back. That was funny but also understandably frustrating.

Happy birthday you old goat!

These cams have had VERY little use - cam on left has about 5 weeks of field use and cam on right about 3 weeks. Bought them to fill in voids of areas where theft was possible or for areas where I was taking a flyer as to activity. Cams have performed flawlessly. I will try to post pics when I get some free time this weekend if needed, but they are serviceable pics by every expectation. Why am I selling? I have three of these. Keeping one for the same purposes. As the season went on, these didn't get deployed as often as I thought they would. Don't really need three of these for that purpose. One will do. $80 shipped to your door CO US. No trades or best offers. Not worth selling for any less.

Got a nice frame daypack. It'll help me stay in the woods longer on those daylong sits when the weather changes and I need to add/remove layers, rain gear, etc. A couple times in bow season I felt like I got chased out of the stand because I didn't have the right gear with me to stay in the woods after rains moved in and it got colder. Also got a new vac sealer and a nice buck knife. Got a nice Eco Drive watch, too.

There's a balance with everything. With the Axis, I agree it too is serviceable. Like you said it's half the price and for for 99% of east coast hunters who will only ever shoot paper or whitetails, and maybe a bear once, I don't see the action as being something to really harp on. It's serviceable. That cost reduction allows for some room to invest in glass or at least glass of serviceable quality as oppsed to the chinese stock stuff.

deer view mirror...one of the most joked products ever.

Uovision makes quite a few cameras...many of the distributors here - Bushnell, Covert, Browning, Cabelas, Moultrie, etc. all source from the same 2-3 manufacturers. Uway I believe is made by Uovision. Covert is Uovision...many of the newer HCO lines are Uovision. Some of the signs are similar user interfaces. Pretty confident that Browning and Moultrie are made on the same assembly lines too, although the 2015 models have a "stealth cam" appearance. Could be they're all from the same manufacturer.

I caught him on cam a few years ago, too.

The SG550 models of 5-6 years ago are not the same as the ones sold today. Bolyguard had a mass exodus of the engineers that designed and built their cams and they started Uovision, which gained market share. Uovision has had some business issues as of late and Scoutguard has been recovering. Problem is though, the 550 internals are not made of the same components they were made of when they first came out and revolutionized the market. HCO is the US distributor of them. The Ebay guy is actually tied to Bolyguard either by relation or ownership and undermines HCO's agreement to be the US distributor.

Savage to me makes the perfect entry level guns and even mid level guns that perform and out perform the bigger names. I picked up a 243 for deer in a Remington 700 last year solely because of the aftermarket. I really wanted a Savage, but the aftermarket is really just starting to catch on with the Axis line.

herd management = shooting does only if called for it Much to people's surprise, there are times where shooting does might do more harm. Probably not common in Wayne County, but still.

Still wouldn't worry about genetics.

Bass pro sale.. Question on bass pro tendencies.....

Bibs and a good jacket are something I won't skimp on. I have the Gander brand bibs and jacket and really like them. If you like the Redhead stuff, buy it now. In my mind, this is different than a lighter suit or something where you can get by with something else. A good set of bibs are worth the $$$. My FIL got the redhead bibs this year. He's not exactly the hunting elite, but he reports good things on them this season. -
This thread is still hilarious. I bought my wife a mophie-like pack for her phone. She already talks too much as it is, so I'm really in for it now.

I understand where you are going with this, but if the landowner, who you lease with asked for a doe, your pops should have shot one whether he wanted to or not. This trumps the purpose of letting a doe live if they made it far into the season, etc. Keeping the landowner happy is pretty important and also the right thing to do to continue to secure access. Sure, I bet your response is going to be "we know the landowner well, and we're not in jeopardy of losing it." Possibly, but why start a crack in the dam? Shooting a doe when plenty of ops were there? Poor taste, hoss.

Wildgame Deal for those around field and stream

This cam uses a typical strap or a tripod mount. -
Sounds like a commitment was implied or valid...should have shot a doe.

This is a common misconception. This exists because there are mismatched expectations. People expect to have few to no problems for trail cams. Not possible. Understand something - if you are buying commerically made cameras, you are going to have failures of some sort. Most all cams do not have coated internals. These cams sit outside in fluctuating temps, humidity, precipitation, sun and heat, etc. One of the key characteristics is dealing with a company that will at least honor a warranty and hear you out when something goes wrong to work toward a solution. It doesn't matter if it is Bushnell, Covert, Reconyx...they all have problems. Heck, Reconynx is selling their new model that was in development for YEARS, and it's got several problems/bugs that need to be worked out. For a $600 cam, too. If you get two reliable years out of a cam below say the Reconyx line, you've got your money's worth and any added service over that is gravy. I'm really a big advocate on no security. Why? Because when someone wants it, all you do is lose more money spent on lock boxes or cables or locks. Have I had cams stolen, yes. Some with and some without locks. Mount your cams up higher to get out of line of sight using screw-in or ratchet mounts...that's really the cheapest and best defense for most people.
