What caliber to complement a 30.06 ??

I'm a fan of the .243. everything up to a deer is fair game and can be a deer killer with a solid shooter. -
Lewis County NY Hunting land for lease
phade replied to [email protected]'s topic in Land For Sale, Lease, and Requests
About as legit as legit gets in a response. I think everyone here is reasonable and would likely understand that situation developing. Looks like great ground and one that you should be able to lease without much hassle. -
Noticed that too...that one main beam is looooong. Ugly...but still, it'll score.

Most of the mature bucks I had been locating this summer went rogue right at velvet shed. The younger bucks are still hanging tight together. But, it's been a while to see the mature bucks tagged along by others.

I have no desire for them out here in wNY. I can maybe understand the eastern implementation based on hunter desire and the stats there....but 3 a side here? No way. Basket 8 1.5s are common enough here that even 4 a side wouldn't advance the class to the point of effectiveness. I've got enough of them on my wall from early on in my hunting career. Heck, I have a 12, arguably 13 point 1.5 y/o on the wall. Plus, not a big fan of more control on hunting. Now, I would accept OBR. Give the hunter the DECISION to take the one buck he wants. I think the two tag thing is really what leads to a ton of 1.5s being killed. Although only a small number fill both tags, the common thinking is to put the first one down and "hold out." And, of course, the 1.5 is often the first trigger to be squeezed or arrow released.

That's gonna quite the crowd...not. Believe it or not some of us have some knowledge in AR, even if we don't "live" in the area. Not a ton of agreement, obviously, because it is one of the most dividing topics there is in hunting right now. Still, people on both sides here bring value to the table about it. The DEC never once said the goal of AR was to produce trophy bucks. Jeremy Hurst is a broken record...saying it is only to advance the majority of 1.5 age class to 2.5.

I've tried the heart and liver, and I just can't do it. Mental thing Im sure.

Getting excited after that level of stress is no doubt enjoyable. When I bought my house...I closed on November 9. Um, yeah...stupid, but necessary. For me...my truck is still in Ohio. PCM was bad. They need to flash the VIN and mileage on it and hopefully it'll be up and running. I have to go get it this weekend come hell or high water.

It sure is. -
The slip includes language to release liability pretty much.
-
hard horn just reconfirms antler's numbers imo. There are scoring orgs that count what they grow, you know.
-
Milkweed seeds are best. Amazing what they can show you over a string feather or weather forecast.
-
The DEC usually has a stock form for access. I think it includes the language absolving the landowner.

Found out who is stealing my corn stalks.... Caught em!

Credit to Hunting Beast forum: We have been talking about the moon and how it effects deer movement quite a bit lately. I really don't understand what the gravitational effect does to deer, I just know that they are more active when the moon is over head, or under foot. I was a doubter until my friend Andrae kept out hunting me in the mornings outside the rut, a time when most bucks are bedded before daylight. I questioned him about it and he confided that he uses the moon as a guide as to when the deer are moving late in the morning. If the moon is over head, or directly below, and its the 1st couple hours of daylight, he said the bucks will be late getting back to there beds... I have never known Andrae to be one to believe in pixie dust, but I still had my doubts even though he had knocked down some incredible animals on those moon above/below mornings. That night while staying at Andraes he asked me to look at the times and dates on his trail camera photo's and compare them to the guide. It was amazing at how accurate the guide was. The one discrepancy it had was thrown out when we checked the weather for that day. It was the perfect test cause Andrae was running 2 dozen cameras in 2 states and if we pencil graphed the peak movements they coincided with peak movements on the chart ( Jeff Murry moon guide chart ) I have heard some say that moon directly above has more effect than below, but I see good results with both. Andrae believes the over head days are better. ( red ) Weather will change results. And I, nor Andrae believe everything the guide or moon charts try to sell. Big bucks hold tight midday regardless of moon most of the time... However, you will see smaller bucks and does feeding midday during peak moon. I also believe that mature bucks will rise and enter there staging area prior to dark regardless of moon, but may move farther beyond the staging area before dark on the right moon phase which can be key for those set ups where you can't get close enough. Anywho... Here are the mornings this season I would want to be perched over the top of a mature bucks bed waiting for daylight based on the moon: RED=OVERHEAD SEPT 7 SEPT 8 SEPT 9 SEPT 21 SEPT 22 Sept 23 OCT 7 OCT8 OCT 9 OCT 21 OCT 22 OCT23 NOV 6 NOV 7 NOV 8 NOV 9 NOV 20 NOV 21 NOV 22 NOV23 DEC 6 DEC 7 DEC 8 DEC 9 DEC 20 DEC 21 DEC 22 JAN 5 JAN 6 JAN 7 JAN 19 JAN 20 JAN 21 Here are the best days for evening sits... By best, I mean the bucks should move earlier than normal, so this should be good for those spots where you can't quite get close enough for daylight shooting due to noise, vision, wind, or some other factor. For three hunters, there'd have to be some compromise. It'd have to be a hunt smart scenario. Wouldn't work if this were the only spot for all three hunters. Could if it were part of a rotation (ie hunters had other parcels). Also, claiming "good" spots likely wouldn't be possible...it'd have to be a community thing. All set stands and agree to share/rotate and keep everyone informed.

Prices have come down, really to the point some people can justify it based on drive time. Also good for not burning ground checking the cam every few weeks. The MMS cams can be had for $275 or so if you shop well. Cell plans cost $10-$20, with $20 a month being unlimited. I have one spot where it'd be prime, and if I hadn't spent enough money on my hunting supplies this season, I'd have gotten one. I will definitely have one for next season. The cost benefit can be warranted if you do the math on it... Say it costs you $20-$25 for a tank of gas for a round trip and you check it 2x per month...($50). You are automatically saving $30 a month on gas. A comparable cam for most of the MMS ones are around $150-$200 for redflash...black flash even more. So, say you spent an extra $125 for the MMS feature ($275 for MMS cam vs. $150 for non-MMS). You'd break even pretty quick over time monetarily...add in your time savings...and it's really even more. The biggest issue thus far is making sure you have enough bars for service...and some of the programming - it's not always easy. But, once it is up and running...you can warrant the cost pretty quick. People are getting good battery life out of them. The $20 a month scares many off, but have no qualms spending $50 in gas to check the cam. Obviously the dynamics change if you have multiple cams on a property, but usually these cams are for places where disturbance needs to be minimum and is a good drive away. Another scenario where it'd be useful - my planned opening day spot has a cam within the area. It's about a 50 min drive for me. I really wanted to check it leaving 3 weeks to cover any disturbance. I had planned a day to make the trip, but family commitments got in the way and this past weekend was also booked for out of state. I never got to the cam, and now it's been there 5+ weeks without a check and I can't check it until opening day now. That intel would have been useful for me...I would have had it had I had the MMS cam.

Coming up quick, no doubt.

Truck is ooc for today. Ladies coming to get us. Number 6 cyl misfire. Checked through problems in order and looks like either wire to injector or pcm. Injector was pulled and put in another cyl and she was sparying fine. No spraying when in 6. Coils all good. Same w/wires and plugs. Ugh...gotta leave truck and come back down to get it once fixed. Im thinking pcm is toast...online search seems to show this is more common than the wire going bad. Was sitting in same said bar and grill at noon for lunch and planned to watch bills game. Then i noticed the sign and browns jerseys everywhere. Bar is north central ohio browns backers homebase. I left after the reception i got for cheering the first bills td....lol.

Yeah, instant stress being 350 miles from home. Im hoping its a misfire issue. It makes sense but the damn thing went into limp mode with the flashing engine light. It was raining when it happened but i didnt go into a puddle. Hoping maybe water got into a wire...easy enough to replace plugs and wires. Hotel is in right spot though in a tiny plaza with a bar grill and an advanced auto lol. The mgr got me connected with the shop and the shop owner drove out to see how it was running to see if we could drive it in the a.m. to the shop which is a mile away. Super nice people here...country folk.

I do however want to say there is a bar grill across street that will be getting a few bucks from me tonight. Good wings and cheap beer.
