The truth right there...I'm in the same boat with orchards. I think once my crabapples dried up along the thicket bedding areas...they moved a bit closer to the orchards and off my ground. Hoping harvest is short and fast...got some corn bordering both sides to help that draw...Almost feel helpless when you know why they left and can't do a thing about it, ha. I'm getting my mexican hat ready...I'm sure at some point I'll hear the music again at harvest when the taters and apples are coming out.

I wish the apples were a bit better. I had a huge uptick in activity and mature bucks when the apples that were left on the trees were falling. They are next to a thick bedding area with two water holes. Talk about traffic...As soon as the temps dropped, the apples dried up since there were fewer of them byt 75%, traffic ground to a halt...unfortunately that was timed with the velvet shed, and I haven't checked cams since that initial time when I realized everything pattern wise had changed. Hit me all at once. There are some acorns falling...I think it's just a matter of finding them. When you do, the hunting will be good since they'll flock to them in poor acron crop seasons...compounded by poor fruit season...bingo!

Don't know about the access specifically, but it appears access is from the W of the ground. Deer filter from the northern timber lots, but they bed in the grassy fields like it is going out of style there. It is a major chasing area...as in I've seen bucks keep does in the area all day long. Bucks cruise it for does a bunch.

This is a Basecamp lease...not a fan of such middle mans, but I know this ground as I used to hunt close by. Not a ton of trees to hunt, but it is covered up in deer, and I mean big ones. I hate it when there isn't a ton of "woods" but I can assure you that this ground has the deer. I'm not in a position to pay for this lease myself as I have two other leases already, but I'd be interested in spltting this one with a like-minded individual. http://basecampleasing.com/5316/Genesee-County-New%20York-Hunting-Lease.html

Alot of fellow hunters pissin me off AGAIN!
phade replied to sits in trees's topic in General Chit Chat
He's always been like that. I once read his explaination and was pretty much his shooting style and also the benefit of some added speed/KE/etc. Whatever...as long as he shoots decent. He's certainly not the best shooter on film, but not the bottom of the barrel either. Problem is, watching him is like taking ten Lunesta pills at once. -

Or drawing like dave watson....he cracks me up sitting in a blind playing a guitar drawing to the back of his head trying to shoot some odd African game off a waterhole all at the same time while telling everyone how good the hunting is. -
Same thing could be said about the youth bill and adults hunting on the kids tags. Yet, that is going through. Can't take that stance on one and not the other can we hunters? Sheesh.

Very true - like "weekend warriors" or just those who hunt opening day of gun only...there are a portion of bowhunters who are "casual" bowhunters. Single out bowhunters is certainly valid, but you can do the same with the nutjobs that either don't shoot their guns, shoot it once on a bench and call it good without any freehand shots, etc. OR sight in with Federal and shoot a different style slug from Remington. The "casual" hunters are a sizeable group and addmittedly, they are useful for their license dollars and representation. Sure, are some slobs? Yep. But, they help make the hunting world go around in one way we don't often think about. For every 10 casual hunters, there is one dedicated hunter (bow or gun). -
That's a giant buck...go get him!

Mossberg 500 Rifled 20g Camo/Cantilever/Scope
phade replied to phade's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
I'll do $300 minus the scope/rings. -
Apples are gone...a few white oaks are dropping and they are getting hit hard.

Treelimb in either model is nice...the premium is great...

I don't think I'll be blind calling much untial end of October and that's usually limited at best. I also wouldn't waste time in scents until later in the month. With Oct....you want to capitalize on patterns and your best bet...the first time in and catch them before they know they are being hunted.

Fred is a big guy physically...never really picked that up on camera, but when I met him, I was shocked. I'm 6' 1" about 205-210 and he dwarfed me. Lots of energy and a great guy who seems to "get" what hunting is about.

They chopped the corn behind me yesterday...I couldn't believe how much acreage they chopped in between my 8 hour work day...I immediately ran out to check the cams as I had them set between the corn and the bordering hedge rows. Thankfully the hands didn't steal them. Had one set over a white oak dropping..cam was there for 3 days and filled up a 2 gig card on 10 second videos. All does and 1.5s unfortunately. At first I was really worried they were going to lay down the manure...but even if they do, the parcel really only has one funnel with some tall grass cover anyway now and they'll still use it.

right hand shooters...shooting towards the right??
phade replied to regulat0r's topic in Bow Hunting
The big thing with that three o clock position is not the feet, but the waist and whether your arms can cleanly shoot without tree contact. I try to place stands with shots to the left (roughtly 8 a.m. to 11 a.m on the dial). Usually if the deer is behind and coming to your right, you have time to stand and move with the tree providing cover. -
beefy and doe...two words that don't go together. venny doe? LOL.

Would be fun, but I've just got too many other hunting related things to finish this weekend. Sounds like a fun thing getting kids involved. If I had a kid hunting age, I'd be making the trip.

The reincarnation of the venatic team (half of the group continued on) actually just inked a deal to be on Pursuit Channel starting next June.

Trukeys however, love it, at least in Spring in my experience. Bugs come to it and they flock.

The manure will be like kryptonite if it is laid on thick. Deer will avoid it if they have chance to go around it. I cringe when I see it pop up shortly after a field is harvested. But, you can use it to your advantage knowing that, too. As long as you have the ground, sometimes you have an imaginary pinch point/funnel for a few weeks.
