  1. Smoke phase...full body mount!
  2. Heck, I shot at a bird this season he was on the same roost tree the next a.m. Granted, he shuts the heck up once he hits the ground...but he didn't relocate.
  3. I'm assuming this is the issue. My pattern was pretty dense at 30 yards and acceptable at 25. I really didn't expect a 15 yards shot but they were on top of me within second of flying off the roost.
  4. What a terrible feeling. Had a home run set up and was within 40 yards of the roosted tom. He pitched down pretty late at about 6:55. Within one minute two hens were tens yards out and the tom was slightly behind them by about 5 yards in cover. A yearling deer happened to walk right by them and go on alert putting the hens on alert. Tom finally gave me the shot as the deer moved off. I must have clipped some overhanging canopy (finding out after the fact) - I was so confident in the set and the shot I thought I flopped him but it wasn't the case. I did my due diligence in looking but no sign or sight. I then stomped home on the walk of shame trying to figure out how I blew a 15 yard dump shot. No words to describe the level of pi$$3d off I am. Worse yet...I moved my work hours to later in the day and now I get to enjoy a full day's worth of work. Fun. Amazing to see what a turkey can do to a grown man in making him feel like a baby who had his candy stolen.
  5. I've used windex w/the 777 pellets with success...cheap alternative.
  6. I've good luck with TCs foaming cleaner (although I don't use Pyrodex...I use BH209). Seems to be pretty good at getting it clean.
  7. Nice...but he ruined that pic with a dolphins hat...haha.
  8. Let's work on getting you some land...whether public or private. I've got some suggestions for you that we can talk about in private (I'm writing a book right now and don't want to air its content). As you said, it is tough right now being in FL and the fact you up here in July. I went to school in FL (USF) and lived in Virginia...the setup/use/organzation of public land is night and day with most northern/midwest states. I also think you will be in for bit of a shock with some of the public land opportunities up here (good and bad). There are ALOT of hunters in NY...especially in the bowhunting and orange army.
  9. Anyone haev a link to a good Rattlesnake Hill map online? DEC site doesn't seem to have one.
  10. He was shooting Nitros...not premiums. Gonna be 100fps difference give or take.
  11. Try the Win Supreme no 6 in 3" for the 20 gauge. Pretty cheap at Walmart if one carries it by you. If the choke is decent, the ammo always seems to be the variable. I can't seem to shoot Remingtons (nitro or premiums) out of my mos 500...but it'll throw Winchesters really well. The wads on the Remingtons are horrible...they looks like thye've been torn up compared to the Wins after firing. I think the wad makes a big difference...the porting in the 12 helps with that. If you are not happy with the ammo, I'd switch brands before product range and size (low, mid, high). Edit...another thought...the remingtons are much slower FPS....that'll impact it as well.
  12. Cards up to 2G are SD. 4 and 8 gig cards are SDHC. That's also why some game cams only accept up to 2 gig...new ones tak SDHC and SD. Think of it this way...Playstation 3. You can't pop a Playstation 3 game in a Playstation 1 and have it work. But, you can play a Playstation 1 game in a Playstation 3.
  13. And who says you are not funny...
  14. SImilar deal...except I leased the land. Owner just acquired it. He found an uncovered well...sent me an email to warn me about it so nobody gets hurt (he almost did...that's how he found it). I replied back, thank you for the alert and went and covered it up. He's protected since I signed paperwork releasing him from responsibility for my stupidity and he did his part by letting me know. Now, in your case, not knowing about it for a while...it seems reasonable to not know about a prior partially dug well on a hillside since it is not common practice to put them there. The protections to the landowner really only give way if they are malicious about some situation.
  15. No. If money or services are not exchanged in NY, the landowner is protected. Verbal...owner is protected...written....landowner is protected. As long as money/services don't change hands...landowner is protected. I haven't looked at the card in a couple years, but it used to be on the card itself... Edit...here it is... http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/wildlife_pdf/ask.pdf
  16. You do not need written permission to hunt on a property (althought smart idea). Verbal permission is legal. This card is just another way to help hunters/landowners. It does not impact liability. As long as NO money, services, etc. change hands, the owner is protected.
  17. Starting to look at some of the low end guns to see if I want to really go 243... Checked out the Axis today and it looks extremely solid for the price. Also looked at the CVA Scout and that was very nice, too - barrel looks real good. I may spring for one and shoot it to see if I want to get a high end 243. At worst I have a dedicated fox/yote killer.
  18. I work for a large corporation that is well respected within the community and within the business services sector. Our typical operation to assign email addresses is to take the first initial of the first name and pair it with the last name (or the first few characters of it). So, if your name was Robert Brown, it'd be [email protected]. That's a common practice in big business. You'd think IT would do something about the unfortunate combinations. Here are a few I have come across in my time (minus the company heading) A department manager who is in charge of about 75 people clown A person who works in IT Risk no less: abuse And just an unfortunate one: khunt Seriously, I know I am not the only one who finds these funny inside work, either.
  19. Wow, that is terrible. I almost think that is worse than having a blow-up argument and then going separate ways. Just not addressing it and disappearing, seems pretty lame.
  20. I've looked at that and was tempted, but stock options were non-existant.
  21. I love Tikkas, but having a thumbhole stock is part of the requirement for me.
  22. Welcome...110k at your hunting disposal sure makes life alot easier...
  23. I really want a .243 for a dedicated deer rifle...and I want to have a thumbhole stock of some sort...I'm not particular if it is a CVA/TC type of single barrel/swappable stock deal or a dediacted nice wood stock. Open to suggestions... I am looking and not finding much to my liking.
  24. I laughed when I saw it on TV and I laughed again. Such a random set of events that came together to get that shot for everyone to laught at...
