  1. At a midnight showing no less. Sad events to say the least. People break for different reasons or sometimes no reason at all. Nobody wins.
  2. Shoot like Dave Watson maybe? LOL. I get a crack out of seeing him shooting a bow. I'd go to the bow shop and test things out...get the proper DL and then go from there.
  3. While I think Grow is on the track, it's actually not just the wind. Heavy wind makes it more difficult to pick up scent from what I understand (unless it swirls there?). The field use is because they then rely on their vision for protection since hearing and scent detection is compromised. You see similar things with turkey in rain. Protected fields are actually great places in heavy wind. Opening weekend of bow last year was like that.
  4. Climbers can be nice, but I'll tell ya...it is hell to have to hunt trees instead of deer. If I know I have climber friendly trees, so be it. If I'm unsure, I'm tagging the Alpha and sticks. I want to be where the deer are, not where the climber friendly tree is. You are way better off with that setup if you hunt fresh sign at all. I've got three climbers..a summit and two LW. Certainly nice, but you cannot deny the fact that you need the right trees to hunt with them. Deer don't exactly cater to that.
  5. I can't recall but is there any marsh/swamp land in Letchworth?
  6. Lone Wolf is the ONLY way to go for a mobile hang on and sticks combo in my opinion. Beats everything else out there for mobility and quietness. Not exactly the most comfortable seats, but you are out there to kill, not recline and watch a ballgame. You could also look at Muddy, but they are China made and not as quiet. The cast platform of the LW is a big deal.
  7. Yeah, Letworth is not much of a secret but it is some tough hunting at times.

  10. 13 Wham reported this morning that the youth season was taking place...it caught my eye because you usually don't hear about hunting news on the actual news... Just goes to show how much confusion there is on it...phew!
  11. Property lines are a stinker sometimes...fought with that a few years...sometimes it's a real bummer.
  12. I agree that climbers are nice but are limited..a ladder stand is nowhere near as portable, limited height options, but can put in places a climber can't go. I'd be more inclined to use a hang on and sticks. Although, I prefer climbers in the a.m. just because I am not as quite setting a hang on and sticks in the dark.
  13. The pic you can't find might be a different case, but hard to state that any buck is a record challenger in June...too many variable in play.
  14. Nice deer and all, but which one is the record challenger? Big difference in rack appearance when in velvet and hard horn...
  15. Several reasons, but one thing is for sure...deer don't use an area randomly. There is a purpose behing their movements. You say you sppok deer? Are they bedding there?
  16. Yeah, and to be honest, most kit bows are not equipeed with accessories that are durable and efficient. You may get by, but certainly bare bow is better. AT is your friend.
  17. The SZ seems to be REAL popular. Some of these prices are insance, though. At $1,700...I want that thing to be able to be passed down to my kids...like a quality rifle. Fat chance of an Xbow lasting 40-50 years +. Same with regular bows...crazy!
  18. I go cheap cause I lose them. Since I work in white collar industry, I rarely have it on person. I like the small folding models that can tuck in the key/change pocket of my jeans.
  19. I don't shoot a fast bow (Z-28), mine was about 6" low at 20...but the bottom fell out at 30 and 40. I think the firenock size is just as big of an issue as the weight. They are shorter than the regular H nocks by a small bit...I liked them, but felt it wasn't worth the hassle. I don't want to be practicing with them in the off-season on a 3-d decoy and bust them up...plus I didn't want to retune.
  20. Agreed...big difference between hanging a cam on a field edge and stepping into a bucks bedroom twice a week.
  21. The thump issue can be problematic - most cameras have that issue ONLY when transitioning to IR and back...so once per morning and once per day. Once that filter moves, no more noise. Those that thump all the time or worthless imo. The reason most deer look at the cams with IR taking pics is because IR often illuminates prior to the pic being taken slightly - they see the red glow before the actual pic is taken. I have a video of a mature buck where you can see this happen really well as sometimes video has a short IR delay...working a scrape and as the video illuminates you can see his initial reaction/recognition to it...waits for a few seconds and then boogers out of there. Setting a cam high is much better in my opinion and can be done pretty quickly. You are already disturbing the area, so make the best of that disturbance. Last year, I set a Spypoint cam up at one spot on two soaks....one at eye level and the other about 12 feet up over a trail. Each ran for about 5 weeks. The eye level soak had deer looking at the cam about 40% of the time (about 300 pics each soak). The higher cam...2 pics....that's right...2 pics out of 302 deer images. The IR fires outside of their line of sight when higher up...works similar to hunters in a stand. And that Spypoint is handled with latex gloves. And outside of a scrape or a very rare easy access spot - I do not place cams in prime areas. I use cams to give me info, placing them where you hunt is counter-productive for the majority of hunters. Those with low-pressure high quality ground are the only real exception.
  22. I've got some new H Nock Firenocks but the changes my POI pretty harshly and I'm not retuning my bow...I'll sell em lol.
  23. I stopped setting cams up where I hunt. I place cams where I can get pics of bucks right at the edge of darkness or within that 30 minute periods afterwards. Bucks in our area won't move great distances went getting out of their beds for the night, so if I catch one with a hint of daylight in the background...I start digging.
  24. Ten Point is the best brand of the three by far...Barnett has lovers and haters...Darton seems to be in the middle. Will he be using it that much to invest $800 into the xbow? Much like new bows, the low and mid range xbows are phenomenal. Wicked Ridge is made by Ten Point and you can find some deals on them right now. IMO width comes into play more than most think. Narrow, compact xbows are more manuverable in treestands. I've been tinkering with one all summer now that is my FILs and I was a little taken aback at how you have to be careful to have room in the stand. Say for example, shooting in between a double tree or swinging a xbow around for the shot. The ground is no different, I found it annoying to carry the darn thing through trails as it snagged everything. I supposed you get used to it. Excal is a good xbow brand as well and the point brought up about strings is valid...they're also much more durable in my opinion.
