  1. NJ makes NY look like the wild west. They are just the worst in that state politically. What do you even do with that bear? I've heard the meat kind of sucks on bears. I thought the same. That makes for quite a drag.
  2. That's okay. Hopefully another couple of guys bail and that's that. Doesn't look hopeful at this point, though.
  3. I'm not so concerned about that. I was until somebody last year said they go through downpours with their MZ and no worries. I put electrical tape snug and liberally around the end of the barrel, which water-proofs it. The threads are effectively waterproofed from anti-seize, so then the only ingress point for moisture is the gap between the primer and where it seats (there isn't actually a gap but I imagine water could sneak in if submerged), which I'm sure you could put a bit of grease around if really worried.
  4. CVA Wolf SS w/ Nikon 3-9X Have yet to ever take a deer during regular or late season. Should have that rectified by mid next week at the latest.
  5. I will hunt in heat. I'll hunt in cold. I'll hunt in snow. Cold rain? Not likely. It's an especially miserable experience and exceptionally cold one sitting in the rain in the 40s or high 30's. I'll take 20 F and windy over that any day. Based on current forecast I plan on spending my saturday morning drinking coffee in front of a laptop.
  6. Thing is these states have passed tax laws under a framework of being able to deduct taxes, which is extremely long-standing. So the fed has changed the rules. I think a flat tax would make the lower and middle class wake up to exactly how much they are carried by the rich--it won't pass. It looks like this particular plan is at risk of failing. One more lost vote away from a tie-breaker needed by Pence now: https://www.wsj.com/articles/republican-sen-ron-johnson-opposes-gop-senate-tax-package-1510777290
  7. Oh deer, well I confirmed zero of my MZ today. Two bullets and I'm off to the races. Other than bringing it out this spring I haven't shot it since late last year. It's still on the money. I actually keep mine polish clean with a thin line of oil and after every shot at the range I'll open it, pour water down, do a few patches so it's pretty clean again. I've never taken two shots without a quick rinse of the barrel. Ultimate goal is that when I bring it out hunting that first shot is going to have a similar state in the bore as it was at the range.
  8. Concentric circles, each 100 yards out from the prior

    The End

This is my third year hunting. This season will likely go like the first two, which is stronger focus on bow. Weather is better, less pressure, and I push hard to try and get something in the freezer and then lower stress. This season has gone great. Been out 9-10 times, seen deer every time, had bow-shots chances on deer 4-5 of those times. Saw a huge buck I had to pass due to lack of tag because I had gotten a buck in October. Had my first double, with two deer by vertical in the same morning, then my first xbow. I feel okay saying all this because last year was absolutely brutal. Terrible grind. Last day of bow is sad but last day of muzzleloader after 2.5 months in a row of no success is much worse (public land sucks)!
  10. For what it's worth out of my CVA wolf I am shooting remington 209 sts primers triple 7 pellets: 4 * 30 grain = 120 Shockwave 250 grain spirepoint, which are the exact same as the SST hornadys. 99% sure they are also the same as the smackdown. Walmart sells the smackdown and shockwave next to each other with the latter more expensive, lol but they are the same Today was my first time out since summer with it, sent two down to 100 yards and they were 1.5" off dead center, but to be fair I was a bit shaky and not really well rested. I have had a sub 1" group at 100 yards with 3 rounds with this setup. It is damn accurate, and I will be using MZ all gun season. I just love the gun. It is nicely weighted, virtually no moving parts, very accurate, hits very hard. Only other bullets I've tried are the XTP hunter from walmart: $12 for 30 or thereabouts. They have a hollow tip without the plastic insert like the spire point. I found their groups on 100 yards were much worse than the spirepoints. Certainly capable of hunting at 75 or maybe 100 but definitely not beyond (maybe groups would tighten at 90 grain load?). I haven't tried more combos than the above because the triple7 plus spirepoint are so incredibly accurate and I got the triple7 at a bargain basement price last year so stocked up on multiple years' worth. That is awesome. My list of things to do in life is actually not long, but one of the items is to get a deer with a kentucky rifle with flint lock. It needs to happen, and it will.
  11. Those bone spurs are indication of deer meningitis. Rare in NY but if you get that close you're almost certainly a carrier now and there is no cure for it in humans.
  12. Not surprised. 1 square mile park close to major cities. I doubt there was a deer left three hours in except ones that were bedded and never moved again during daylight.
  13. People are lazy as hell, though. Guess at how far the average 50 year old wants to walk. Now divide that by two or three and that's how far they actually walk. Go a bit further and you won't see a soul.
  14. Interesting idea. Maybe have two weekends for gun in November and two more in early January with nothing in between except maybe just the one week of late MZ.
  15. No problem at all, just hike minimum 4 miles in on subsequent days to get where the deer are.
  16. ok my hunting buddy right now practices very little with his bow pre season and had a clean miss on a deer earlier this season (ie not a great shot). He told me he wouldn't shoot out to 40 unless it was a huge buck. It's been minimum of a year since he even shot a target out that far. The good news for the buck is it would be unlikely to even be wounded in this scenario. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Ridoculous. I have lost deer but I have never taken a shot I didn't think I could reliably make. No hail Mary's. Maybe these services need to charge a fee or something (or more if they don't already and I don't think they do). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Kind of. It's also based heavily on various deductions which are not applicable to all people. It sounds to me like for logical consistency in taxes you don't believe the child tax credit should continue. Because if one family makes $100k and another makes $100k but the second has three kids, now their tax bill is less $3000. Are you for removing all deductions/credits? I'm not sure what your point is in all this. Do you think New york is not paying its fair share of taxes? Because I agree: we are paying too much as it is. As I said early in the thread and provided data for. Here's more: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/03/us/politics/fact-check-state-local-taxes-republican.html Say after me: New York already pays more in federal taxing than it receives in federal spending. This delta will become even more severe if the republican plan is executed.
  19. But I already pay more than the average American, even in a red state. That is simple and is a fact.
  20. I'll make it simple. I already pay more in federal taxes than the average American. I don't want to pay more. And I will hold responsible whichever politician or party increases them. At the end of the day that's all I can do. What's fair? That $100k here results in less federal than in Alabama? Or is it that the average guy in NY already pays more in federal taxes than the guy in alabama anyway? Or that Alabama takes more federal money toward its budget than other states? It's hard to say what's fair in taxes. Half this country pays no meaningful federal income tax anyway while I pay a lot and people above my salary pay even more. The poorer people depend on me, not he other way around. And in truth I'm not paying my share, either; if I made $1M/year I'd be out 6 figure federal tax income. People like that are keeping the carriers afloat and the lights on in DC. So it's hard to say what's fair, which is why I can only distil down to who makes me pay more. I don't like it, so I will blame them.
  21. Yes, NY dings us on everything, but look at this. It is a statistically relevant trend. Red states are poorer.
  22. Good point, but I'll take this comparison to its logical conclusion. Bob in NY makes $100k and his federal end up being on $95k. Jim makes $90k and has no state taxes and pays federal on $90k. Therefore Bob still pays more than Jim. Why does Jim only make $90k instead of $100k? Because he lives in an economically weak state in part because state infrastructure does not support business. Here's the map again. And this link: http://www.dailyinfographic.com/federal-tax-dollars-per-state-infographic So it's not fair to say same income in one state than another because states have different income levels; blue tend to be wealthier. Even with our deductions we still pay more per capita. People in Montana may complain that we are taking advantage of deductions, but they rely on the fed more than we do and they pay less in taxes even still. So who's really taking advantage of who? 23. Why not per state? NY is a wealthy state. Some of that may be in part because of the high state taxes, which create better schools than mississippi, so then even with our deductions our people make so much more money that we contribute more to the federal coffers than somebody from MS. And the fed says no you need to pay even more? Even with deductions we contribute more to the federal coffers per person than a poor red state. I quite accurately pay the equivalent of federal taxes equal to several very low income families because they pay nothing (and may even get some back) federal taxes. It sounds like you're saying I shouldn't complain if due to this plan I end up paying yet more taxes still. If Bob makes $100k and pays $10k taxes and Jim makes $50k and pays $6k taxes, Bob's tax rate is lower than Jim's, but he's paying more. it sounds like you don't believe that is fair on Jim even though Bob contributes more than Jim. What this plan does is further skews taxes in this country. The lower half already pay so little in fed taxes they are barely relevant. This will make the difference worse. As it is the upper income tiers are wildly over-represented in tax burden.
