  1. Awesome on the new hunting spot. Keep in mind that trails in wet areas tend to look more impressive because of the wet ground. But kudos to the scouting!
  2. I think you did get the back of the lung, but there are fewer blood vessel in the back and top of the lung. Amazing how you never know for sure until you find them. Tough tough critters.
  3. Dang,14 hrs is forever for a liver hit. You must have missed all the plumbing in there...Glad you got him in the end!!
  4. I am on another site and they do 5 points for a doe and a buck is also 5 plus one for each antler point. That seems pretty good. Weekly picks would be hard for whoever runs the contest. I am in for whatever.
  5. i used to age mine at a friend's place but now that I do them at my house I can't unless the temps are perfect. I have not found a difference in the meat to my surprise...I think freezing actually helps with that.
  6. @heavuser,I hunt both private and public. Not much pressure here in central NY during early bow though. And @phade,you always have pics of these fat bucks on here,I am starting to think you have a fetish, haha.
  7. Revolution solar is a small company by me,a friend runs it. They have been installing solar panels for well over a decade, you might want to give them a call. They do different styles of panels, one of them being those units that track the sun. You don't need to clear a lot of woods for those.
  8. He is in a saddle, that size platform works just fine. My feet are a little bigger than my platform. You don't need much when it is just part of the support.
  9. Good luck to both the trackers this morning. I got most of my doe in the freezer. I did hit the scapula on the hear side and blew right through and still got a nice pass through with hitting rins on the offside. I got lucky though, missed the ridge of the scapula by less than an inch,I am not sure I would have gotten through that. Maybe,I am not eager to find out. The single bevel did a good job though.
  10. That was the exit, the entry was higher, just below the spine. Close!!! I think it went through the edge of the near side scapula,I will find out in a few hrs...
  11. Went looking for clues about the doe I shot yesterday and found absolutely nothing. I scoured the field edges and did ever bigger circles in the woods. After a couple of hours with not a sign I gave up. I think I hit her forward, but I am still baffled why there was no blood. I figured I would take the long way home and as I was sneaking through the woods I spotted a lone doe. I figured I might as well get back on that horse when she came within 20 yds. Shot was higher than I liked but she was way below me on a bank,so it was almost like shooting from a tree. She ran off and I lost sight of her and again I heard no crash. I waited and finally went to check the arrow, yay to lighted nocks or I would not have found it under the ferns. Arrow looked real good so I decided to take up the trail. She really kicked up leaves on her way down the hill but I was not getting blood for the first 25 yds. Then I got some. Then she was right in front of me she died within 45 yds from the shot site. She must have been dead in seconds and she crashed on a fallen log. I couldn't believe it,no wonder I lost track of her as she never made it down the slope. I am so excited, what a change after a crappy night.
  12. I hate it when this happens. Maybe @heavuserand me can go to therapy together. I practice shooting a lot. The doe just made it past a full foliage maple when I shot her and she od course ran back behind so I couldn't see her. Tracking in grass is not as easy either...Hope the morning is good.
  13. Sorry,no picture. A little bloody but almost brown. I gut shot a deer before.and it didn't really look like that. I wonder if it was forward and deflected of the lower neck in front of the leg bone v. There are some glands down in there too, aren't there?
  14. Well,no clue what happened. She was quartering to slightly and I aimed for the top of the heart. she was about 20 yds and I was 17 or so feet up. It looked good but she spun and when I went to my arrow it smelled like tallow and kind of rutty. If anything the shot was forward and not back. I couldn't find any hair or blood. Lost sight of her almost immediately, I don't like that either. I would have thought if it is brisket there should have been blood. I backed out and will look more in the a.m.,gotta find something. Any ideas are appreciated...
  15. Shot fired,a doe and smaller one came back. I think it was a good shot, going to be patient as i didn't hear hear crash.
  16. Button buck cam to 20 yds,no wolc special for me. Almost an hour left and the light should be ok here in the field.
  17. Had three deer come out already, the smallest came to 10 yds but the other two never got closer than 35. I was waiting for them to feed closer when another hunter scared them off. A beautiful red fox. Oh well,I got an hour left for something else to show...
  18. Morning sit was a cluster, overslept because my wife had a rough night and so did I by association. My first choice spot was out of the question and when I made it to the back up location a doe spooked when I pulled my rope up the tree to start my climb. I think she caught my scent but didn't know where I was and she just about ran me over. She hung around at about 30 yds to try to figure me out. Just when I got an arrow knocked she finally blew out of there. Nothing else seen but what a beautiful morning it was. Now I am in a nice gnarly ash tree at the narrow point of a hayfield,I have seen deer here just about every evening this week driving by,I hope they keep it up. I have lots of shot opportunities here and am not picky.
  19. Gee,somebody is wasting no time at all. Congrats, you will always remember your first.
  20. I keep hearing PA gets better every year as far as big bucks go. Do you see that same trend?
  21. I shot this a.m. and would have hit the hair I aimed for at 30. I will bring three broadheads and one judo point with me this year on the hunt for the first time. I have come close to shooting a noisy squirrel or chipmunk before with a broadhead, but now they will have to mind their manners around me!!
  22. This should really be in the political section...
