It is more work for your legs to go toe first, but thats how the Indians used to do it. Heel first is a much more modern approach and according to some is what leads to a lot of back problems for people.

I still think counting a doe as five points and a buck as five points plus each antler point would be better. One point for a doe is low.

Thanks for doing this Chef,it was fun.

Outside of the front of the foot, that way you can feel if you are stepping on a branch. Heel first gives you no feel at all.

I have been to Mayhoods once. It is about 50 mins from my house. I was going to shoot a league in Oneonta, but am skipping it this winter. I will be gearing up for the 3d season that should start in April though. When i switched to heavier arrows last year my 20 yd pin was.almost the same, but the 30 yard was quite different. Work your way out slowly with those aluminums.

I have not touched my bow in two months..That is just wrong. I am not shooting any league this winter with the covid though. Are the aluminum arrows much heavier than your carbon setup?

I agree with the first half of your statement. I certainly would have to be snapping my heels to attention if it wasn't for Americas involvement in the 2nd World war. That was quite a while ago though and obviously a good and justified cause. The more recent history of wars starting at Vietnam is more debatable. I get defending your country is noble, but getting sent to far off places for dubious reasons is not. National pride is fine, just dont let it be blind is all.

Ok i get that i guess. When i grew up in germany there was no flag waving and no outspoken national pride as a late late consequence of us wanting to take over the world. The other European countries were pretty sensitive to German Nationalism, understandably so. I suppose that's why i am sensitive to national pride.

Yes,I still have German citizenship. As far as hunting goes,it is arranged completely different. I was not into hunting when i was growing up. Getting the hunting license is a serious effort. For a fishing license i had to take a 32 hr class with a serious written test at the end,not like the hunting license here. Then you could only fish in the ocean or some of the big rivers. Most ponds unless private and streams are leased by clubs. So you would have to join a club to get access. As far as i know for hunting whitetail or boar or elk the state land is broken up into smaller lots and a single person or group can lease that. Farmland plays into that too to some extent. I dont know about limits and seasons. I am always too busy with family to investigate further when i make it back to Germany. So hunting and fishing are much easier and cheaper here..But keep in mind, germany is smaller than PA and NY combined and 80+ million people live there,so the resource needs to be protected.

I live better here? By what criteria? There are good and bad things about both places. This America is best attitude makes people look pretty stupid. There is a whole world out there. Just like Americans think English is the hardest language to learn. That makes me laugh, because that would make sense when English is the language everybody learns, haha. Try learning Finnish,or German for that matter. Every country has room for improvement in my mind, but of course that depends on your perspective, like everything else.

Stuff To Do Around Whiteface/Lake Placid

I would have a bunch of hiking suggestions for the summer, but not this time of year. It is pretty up there for sure. -
I was just thinking about that governement control. When i was first over here i thought how great it was that there is so little regulation. The longer i live here i realize that a lot of the government regulations in Germany are there for a good reason and actually benefit the country. Of course there are things that overreach and i disagree with. But that is a democracy, where things are adopted to fit the times. One example is zoning. In germany everything is zoned, you can not build a house in the middle of the woods unless it is zoned for building. How restrictive, right? What that does though is keep sprawl to a minimum and so it is easier to run the sewer, electric and gas lines. It also makes the villages more compact. The one i grew up in has about 5000 residents. There are two banks,a butcher,a couple of bakeries, some grocery stores and a couple of restaurants there. From the village center you can walk in any direction and within 10 mins you are in the woods or fields,no houses. So now i think zoning makes sense. It restricts personal freedom but benefits all. I am cool with that. It seems like the right approach if you want to live together.

I cant vote here,so you guys are lucky. There was no dual citizenship when i applied. I love the space here in the U.S. I dont like the empty space in a lot of peoples heads so much though. Of course there are idiots everywhere. Germany and most of europe has a lot more regulations because people have been living together on much less space for a longer time than you guys here. That promotes a feeling of being part of a society and the world at large, where here personal indepence trumps most. I hate to break it to you,but you are part of the world,if you like it or not.
