  1. I start tomatoes, flowers and peppers and eggplant inside. Lettuce and beets and most herbs do better just started outside. Except for basil or parsley maybe. Pumpkins ot winter squash benefit from a head start inside as well. It sll depends on your space and scale. I wouldnt bother starting stuff inside if it is just one or two of each variety.
  2. A greenhouse is the cats pyjamas. We have a 14'x25' one and just cleaned it out today. We can start lettuce and spinach and arugula and carrots in there this week. If you use a cold frame inside the greenhouse you get double protection and we can probably put our tomato starts out there in early May.
  3. You got that right, same conditions at my house today. My wife and I were trying to figure out where to build a pizza oven/maple syrup shed. That would be fun ,@swampbucks is not far from me either. He is in the right direction, west of here.
  4. You guys are hardcore shooting today. On a day like this i dont mind waiting another month for the first shoot here.
  5. We should meet at one of those in August.
  6. Going by your logic there should be three different seasons then. Traditional to compound is about as different as compound to crossbow.
  7. I also tried some of those low and slow recipes for neck meat and shanks. They were amazing, but you are right, they are impossible during the week. I am making some harissa spiced shanks tomorrow,i will post a picture. Another one was a pulled venison recipe with the neck meat,it was delicious. I will try to post a pic and recipe next time I make it. Using these cuts like that has sped up my deer processing time quite a bit. And given me more dishes to look forward to.
  8. It gonna be fish tacos tonight. I got some cod out of the freezer and have ripe avocadoes that need to be eaten. As it happens i also have fresh cilantro and some chipotle salsa.
  9. You are welcome, obviously you dont understand some of the forum rules so i am trying to help.
  10. I was going for something fairly harmless, glad it worked.
  11. Alright, maybe over the top. Jeremy K likes throwing his treasured opinions into the discussion on lots of different topics in the general chit chat and has not been called out on it. So i guess i just got a little over sensitized to yet another great insight ... Opinions are fine, how and where you state them should be a consideration on this forum.
  12. If i want to i can go to the political discussion section and read it. If the same stuff keeps popping up in the general chit chat what is the point of sections at all?
  13. The section this belongs in has gun laws in its title you blockhead. Didn't you remind me of the forum rules before?
  14. Why is this in general chit chat? I dont want to read some peoples dumb opinions unless i go looking for them. @luberhill,could you post this stuff in the gun hunting laws and politics discussion section? You keep posting stuff here that doesnt belong.
  15. That is a great list. My buddy makes summer sausage but his homemade smoker gave them a creosote flavor,so i quit participating in that. He now has an electric smoker,i may have to jump back on the wagon... Someone at work brought some venison summer sausage and it was amazing.
  16. All are made from scratch. I really like controlling what goes into it. I bought a pork butt from a local farmer that just butchered some pigs,it was never frozen. A big reason why i hunt and butcher my own deer is quality control and being involved in the process. And usually i get enough meat for the whole year and some to share.
  17. I tried a bunch of new recipes this year,it was fun. Mix it up a little.
  18. You are absolutely right. It was a long day but I felt great at the end of it.
  19. Disclaimer,no pics. I made up all my venison sausage today and tried a new apple recipe with figs as well and it was a hit..Had that with some homegrown potatoes and some sauerkraut for dinner.
  20. I made about 56# of sausage today, six different kinds. This was the first year i did it by myself in my own kitchen. I have to say i like doing it that way. Last year i did it with friends, pre covid and it was fun but i like being able to control the whole process. I bought better ingredients and tried some new recipes. The new apple recipe is great. I cant wait to try the bratwurst and chorizo. I hope to be able to share some of the sausage with friends and family this summer.
  21. A friend gave me 8 buckets,so i am getting in on the fun. I always wanted to do syrup but never got around to it,so i am glad he gave me a nudge. I will tap today so i am ready for next weeks warmer temps.
