  1. Could anyone give me any advice or guidance regarding crossbow hunting from a treestand in high winds? Is there a point where you say its not recommended? Where I hunt is generally windy, and Saturday winds are forecast at 11-17 mph. Just take shots that are only directly into the wind (as opposed to from left to right)? Take it as it comes and just make sure the wind isn't too strong the moment before I take a shot? Would it help if I set up on the ground? (I've never done so, but could try to find a spot by a tree, I suppose. TIA. Another thought. I remember reading about how a perpendicular wind of x miles per hour will move an bullet y inches off over z feet. Does such a chart exist for arrows or bolts? Assuming I could find this chart, would it be feasible to try to make those adjustments on the fly? Is this just a thing that bowhunters do all the time?
  2. You have a very special wife. You are a very lucky man.
  3. Yep. Got back late Monday. Just been catching up on bills and errands. Still have a few posts from Italy to do. It's been quite an adjustment being back.
  4. I thought this was an interesting video. https://www.wideopenspaces.com/quarter-deer-living-room/
  5. Why not both/all? Broaden your horizons, Biz.
  6. Next time you see me, Biz, you can buy me a beer. Funny you remember that.
  7. Technically, I'm drinking a sparkling water right now, but I had a beer for lunch. This is the view from the rooftop bar in Verona. They have a Roman amphitheatre, like a baby Coliseum.
  8. Had a great time in Venice, Italy with @Al Bundy We had a couple beers at Il Santo Bevitore Pub Venezia. He wore his high school football jacket so he'd be easy to spot in the crowd Seriously, very nice guy; a pleasure to get to know. I will have to check out wild boar hunting in Tuscany he told me about. One of the beers I tried was an Italian Grape Ale. It was good.
  9. [This might be a repost, but just in case . . . ] Stayed in Palermo and Taormina. Did a wine tour at the Gambino winery and restaurant meal near Mt Etna. The winery was quite an operation. Decent wines. Up the mountain is a cooler microclimate. Wife bought some wine for home. They have a distributer in NY they ship from.
  10. Jay, very sorry to hear this. May God be with you and your family.
  11. We stayed a couple nights in Taormina, on the East cost of Sicily. A high end cruise ship stop up a mountain like Capri, but smaller and prettier. This was a night pic I took from our hotel balcony. Mount Etna is off to the right of the photo.
  12. We did a food tour in Palermo that included a tuk tuk ride. It literally was like a living video game, the way the driver was weaving through the small streets dodging people and cars. Sorry, no pic with me and Mrs inside, but you get the idea.
  13. Just your every day deli in Palermo
  14. Palermo was a bit "gritty". Reminded me of Williamsburg (Brooklyn) 20+ years ago. Cheapest place to stay and eat in Italy, as far as I know. Lot's of good food. Some local specialties I liked, like cannollo and arancini, some not so much, like fennel in pasta. If you have time, visit some of the smaller cities in Sicily. Much prettier!
  15. Some beers I had while in Sicily
  16. Hi guys, I'm a bit behind in my posting :). In Rome this week. Poretti 4 Luppoli https://www.birrificioangeloporetti.it/en/beer/4-luppoli-lager
  17. First I ever heard of this one. Article is a bit thin on the connection. Anyone ever heard of this? So now I need to wear a face guard AND gloves? On the other hand, it is Oklahoma. https://fox8.com/2019/09/26/cdc-warns-hunters-after-man-likely-contracted-tuberculosis-from-deer/
  18. Food in Italy has been surprisingly plain, to the point of being bland at times. They like to enjoy the natural flavors of the fresh food. They also don't use butter in cooking or as a condiment. It's all EVOO. We're in Sorrento now, which caters to English tourists, and thankfully I've been getting butter in restaurants.
  19. T-bone steak, Florentine style. Just some salt on it. No A-1 anywhere to be found.
  20. OK, a few days behind. In Florence, did a neighborhood market food tour in the San Croce neighborhood. Very colorful. They had two different zucchini blossoms for sale. Amazing.
