  1. I also lease some property in Columbia county, we seem to get doe tags every year. Not a far ride from Westchester/Rockland and a great area to hunt but might be a bit pricey. We usually stay in Kingston opening weekend which has a bunch of restaurants and stores and is only 20 minutes from hunting spot.
  2. We dropped off 2 bucks at Amato's in Somers on Sunday night and they had a bunch of deer lined up ready to get skinned. They had more bucks then does and some monsters as well. As we were leaving trucks came rolling in with more deer, so it must be a good season so far.
  3. After spending 10 hours in my stand freezing my butt off on opening day, I also asked myself this same question. I hunt because I remember how much my Dad loved to hunt and passed that passion onto me. I spent many years hunting with my Dad and his cousins with great memories. My dad passed away 2 and 1/2 years ago and I miss him so much especially this time of year.
  4. Wow, do you happen to know where in Columbia County ? I hunt up there.
  5. Absolutely, my dad brought me along at that age. It's a great experience for kids they will never forget.
  6. The old neighborhood, nothing better then food from Arthur Ave !
  7. At first we thought it had something to do with him transporting the xbow from Florida to NY. Another thing I realized is he cocks his xbow by hand and not using cocking device, could that have been the problem ? Like I said the xbow is fairly new and not fired many times at all. Even the guy at flying arrows said it was strange where the string broke. Needless to say it will cost him a few bucks to repair. Looking forward to gun season for sure. Thanks for everyones advice and input.
  8. He was shooting a broadhead at the time it exploded. When it's all said and done he will be dishing out $170.00 to repair both string and cables since the guy at archery shop in Putnam suggested he replace both. Unbelievable !
  9. My cousin came up late last night from Florida to hunt a few days with crossbow until gun season opens on Saturday. We decide to take a few practice shots this morning before heading into the woods. After taking several shots at target with his Barnett Ghost 360 that all fly high over target he decides to adjust scope only to have the string explode on his very next attempt. He brought his crossbow up with him in a hard case on plane from Florida. Needless to say our day was ruined being the shop we brought crossbow to didn't have that particular string in stock and had to order one and won't be repaired till mid week. Has anyone had this happen to them, if not any idea why this would happen ?
  10. Shot this nice 8 Saturday morning at 9:45 in Clermont with my Remington 700, 30-06. This buck has special meaning to me since this is my first opener without my dad who passed away 6 months ago. I truly believe he sent this buck to me.
  11. I hunt and will continue to hunt for as long as I physically can because it is something that will always connect me to my dad who recently passed away. This opening gun season will be the first without my pops and probably the hardest since I started hunting with him since I was a kid. Hunting has given me some great memories with him that I will cherish forever. I also enjoy being in the woods and find it very peaceful and relaxing away from everyday craziness. Plus my wife makes a pretty good venison stew that my daughter and I love.
  12. Hey Eddie. I have the same de-cocking bolt with rubber stopper and every time i shoot it the rubber stopper moves back a bit. I usually place the bolt on a hard solid surface and push the stopper up toward front of bolt by hand. So far it's been working for me. Good luck !
